Ya anyone with sense was saying she'd a outside shot at a medal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,772 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

She's definitely in and around the same level as Kaczmarek - the Pole has beaten her three times but only narrowly each time. You'd have to say 'glass half full' for Rhasidat, given that she is only 21.

3:59.65 for Sarah Healy, her second fastest time ever.

Kenneth Rooks American record attempt in the steeplechase didn't quite go to plan, 16th place in 8:35 😬

According to her interview she landed in Poland from Texas today have coaches learnt anything about travel and the impact it can have on athletes even a day or two beforehand would make more sense. She probably wrecked from the travel not using that as an excuse but thought most would land a day or two before a big meet at least.

There was someone who had everyone bar 2 written off. And it was basically a shootout between Adeleke and them. I had to list names of who could possibly challenge her outside those 2. And I don't think I even included Anning which shows how foolish the poster was with their predictions.

Shame Sarah Healy couldn’t find that form on Paris. She should have made the semi-finals minimum and frankly the final was also on the table. Hopefully, it finally comes together for her in Tokyo.

I believe you’re referring to me, except you clearly struggle with comprehension. I recall stating that there was no way Adeleke would finish outside the top 5 in Paris. She finished fourth. I was proven correct.

Now if you’d like to dig out that non-existent post suggesting she was a certain medalist, knock yourself out.

    Jakob’s 2 miles and 3000 records… hard to find more impressive track records ever..that 7:17 today… monster

  • Site Banned Posts: 2,931 ✭✭✭Musicrules

No, there was a poster called razzle dazzle or something like that. They even claimed that Paulino wasn't miles ahead of Adeleke!

So back in your box. 🤣

Would be Interesting to see what times the 3 in front of her were doing at her age 21, that would be a fairer judgment of where she is now.

Can you dig up that post? In your own time now, good lad.

Kaczmarek was running 50.7x at age 22. About the level Sharlene Mawdsley is at today. However, she did make huge progress the following year, going sub-50.

Paulino was a short sprinter earlier in her career. If you look up the heats of the world relays in 2021, you actually see Sharlene Mawdsley outrunning her on the third leg. That shows how good and underestimated a relay runner Mawdsley was at that time, and it highlights that it took some time for Paulino to hit her stride at 400m.

Eid Naser is a different proposition. She ran 48.14 to win the world title at age 22 in Doha. Whether that performance was ‘assisted’, only she knows for certain.

You jumped in with 2 feet with a needlessly aggressive post and were caught out. I'm surprised there was no apology. A bit rude. I'll tell you what, I'll dig out the post after your apology. But take your time son. 😊

Paulino is 27 now and didn't really run 400m until 2021 where she progressed to running 49.20 in the Olympic final.

Eid Naser is 26, at 19 she ran 48.14. She ran 51.50 to win the world youth championships in 2015 at 17. This was obviously before the 4 missed whereabouts test's.

Kaczamarek is 26. In 2019 she ran 52.3. I don't see any results for 2020 but in 2021 she ran 51.36 progressed to 49.94 in 2022 now 48.98.

Plenty of time for Rhasidat to improve.

Hope Rhasidat gets the proper coaching and develops into the best 400m runner in the world, I really do.

However, and it's not her or her teams fault, the gushing of RTE in particular over her is sickening TBH. The 'news' report at 9pm there was ridiculously biased, she missed out narrowly (was far from narrowly) on third and a podium (?), and feeds into over hyping Rhasidat to casual viewers, and is only setting her up for a fall later on. It's dog ignorant and not fair on the girl.

Did you see the "Kipchoge Flops" headline recently after paris😁

The articles are not directed at athletics fans

So 0.05 of a second is a big time gap? Rhasidat will build resilience and strength, so she won't fade. 400m running is tough.

She's probably the biggest name in Irish sport though (outside of Kellie Harrington). Her 400m final in Paris had a larger TV audience than the gold medal wins for Wiffen, McClenaghan and O'Donovan.

Rhasidat is only 21 for God's sake

As the BBC commentator referenced the "Irish youngster" which is what she is, and mixing it with the best in the world at this early stage in her career

    Let's enjoy watching this develop

Great run by Sarah Healy too

Lot folks mention her being still very young. Yes, she is young, but track can be funny. Sometimes athletes are at their best/fastest very young, young and older. There is nothing at all sure/clear to suggest that a 22/23/24/25 year old Adeleke keeps lowering her PB. She could well be at her best right now. Maybe 49.x is her ceiling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,203 ✭✭✭drury..

Except her coach has said she will improve a lot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Water John

It seems in terms of physiology, the capacity is there. But we are talking about a human being here, not a machine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 59,720 ✭✭✭✭walshb

I know what her coach said….doesn't mean it happens. Doesn't mean that it doesn't happen either. If she gets faster she gets faster. If not, not.

Her PB now is 49.07….A proper improvement is really sub 49….running "49.06/07/05" is pretty much her best right now. She needs to get to 48.x to really give herself the best chance to medal at elite championships.

    Maybe it is,

You would have to think that her coach has looked at her baseline metrics like aerobic development, strength, stamina etc and has seen where he thinks improvements may come from. We know she's new to racing 400m event. So one would think that there can be some improvements in the metrics however small. Of course this doesn't always result in better time's.

Also to add, we need to also consider for her to run 48.xx she may never medal at a world event.

I also thought Mawdsley and Kaczmarek shared similar progression, same age and similar PBs, until 2021 at least.

One correction though, Kaczmarek had never ran faster than 52.36 until May 2021, when she was 23.

Over the next three years, her improvement has been nothing short of remarkable. Within three years, aged 23 -26, she's taken 3.46 off her PB, going from 52.23 - 48.90.

That's in stark contrast to her previous three years of progression, from May 2018 - May 2021 aged 20 - 23, her times went from 52.73 - 52.23, just half a second of improvement.

Note that this huge leap in performance happened during Covid, when WADA's testing was massively reduced due to lock downs.

Just as a comparison, Mawdsley's PB has progressed from 51.70 - 50.71 over the last three years. Interestingly, Sharlene has a slightly faster 100m PB than Kaczmarek, 11.52 compared to 11.54 so it's not as if Kaczmarek possesses elite level speed that was previously untapped.

Kaczmarek seems to have sussed her pacing very well. She’s not a speedster, but seems to be able to run each 100 metres solidly and consistently. She has run down Adeleke a few times now because her pacing/strength are clearly better

Yes of course, it's the pacing that takes 3.5 seconds off your PB within three years in your mid twenties. If Adeleke shows similar levels of improvement in her pacing, she'll be running 400m in 45 seconds.
