Hopefully that as it’s coincidentally matches the grant figure.

Has the Chinese EV tax been applied ? Is Tesla absorbing it at the moment ?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,687 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

EV tax is not being implemented until October and EU have said no preliminary taxes should be imposed

Its the grant allowance, it hasnt been applied, likely a query around your address. Ring them asap.

Tesla just confirmed to me that it's an issue on their side and full payment has been received thankfully.

Does anyone know if you can get a deposit back under distance selling rules if you pay after a test drive? Not pay at the Tesla dealer, but pay online. Many thanks!

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,858 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

I always thought no, but some have said yes.
Email them quoting the rules and it may be processed. The test drive and the online order should be 2 separate incidents.

I’m in Northern Ireland and delivery is showing as Nov - Jan! Surely not? Ordered 5 August…

Some people have argued and been successful bur Tesla have specific wording incorporated into their Order Agreement (the contract) to cover themselves (see below) . Whether this is sufficient to counter Consumer Rights is not something I am offering an opinion on but it does make things more challenging

EDD just been pushed out for the 4th time... Now mid Sept.

How long are people normally waiting ? I'm 3+ months for a white RWD M3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,136 ✭✭✭redlead

4th time also for me with a May 1st order date. Its a joke at this stage. I was assured the last window that it wouldn't be pushed out again. The delivery windows are just utter BS and meaningless. If I can't talk to someone specifically about my car next week I'm going to probably cancel as I can't wait another month at this stage for something I was supposed to have two months ago and really needed a month ago. That new window is more likely to be just pushed out again. It's a total and utter sh1tshow of a company, have never experienced anything like it buying a car in the past from any other company.

Yeah I'm tempted to cancel mine as well and get a BYD Seal instead.

I know people will say we are the unlucky ones... But last time I checked I was buying a car and not a lotto ticket for the car !

Your experience seems unfortunate and I can understand frustration. I suspect it may be due to an unusual spec (Model, Colour, Interior Colour, Wheels) as many others have had very short times between order and delivery. Its unusual to get any "assurance" from Tesla and until a confirmed pick up appointment the EDD has emphasis on "Estimated" Hope you get sorted quickly and keep an active eye on Inventory as cars can and do appear

Take the seal for an extended test drive. They will let you keep it over the weekend.

Very good car and very similar to the M3. Obviously price difference.

I've driven the Seal before, very nice car but preferred the instant acceleration and one pedal driving from the M3... But I can't seem to get a car.

There are a few Seals in stock in Cork.. so no waiting.

Hmmm… I don't know, I went with Tesla to avoid traditional car sales tactics, but.. tttsk.. not so sure now.

I ordered base white RWD Model 3 from pre-configured list on 11th July. Neighbour ordered the exact same exactly one week after me. He has his car in his drive way since last week. It's the exact same model, same colour, same car. He didn't even order from pre-configured list!!

My own collection appointment was cancelled abruptly quoting logistics issues, now the trade-in offer has expired and it's been nearly a week since I updated the trade-in car details and I haven't even had the link to upload car pics from them (previous trade-in offer a week after uploading the photos).

Overall I agree with last part of your post - if you really want a Tesla - keep an eye on the inventory list - because I am very close to cancelling my order and atleast one base white RWD model 3 might popup there… (or will it, it's probably already on someone else's driveway).

Ordered a white Model 3 RWD, base spec on everything, on 28 July. Delivery was Aug-Sept.

It was updated today to Nov!

I've had two orders since 2022 and a previous Tesla owner, delivery was in good time and dates never changed. I exchanged short direct messages with Tesla leading up to both and all was smooth.

I would not have expected a 28JUL order to be delivered in Aug/Sept, same as I didn't expect my June order to be delivered that month, I know the website will state delivery dates but it's ships that determine the date and looks like no Sept/Oct ship which make sense as there was a big July delivery

    Thanks for that info.

If it’s near year end, has anyone experience if it’s possible to delay delivery/registration into new year to get, in this case 251 reg?

Tesla will give your car to next in queue if you do not collect, especially at a quarter end and a year end

For anyone interested in insurance prices, I switched over a 142 1.6L Passat to a M3 RWD Standard today (day of collection) and got stung with an additional fee of €175 with only 5 months left. Original insurance was only €291 per year fully comp.

Annualising the additional premium, it looks like my new insurance quote will be €711 a year which is a decent jump but I guess there were no boy racers buying the Passat. Will be shopping around next year.

The free Tesla insurance disc holder on collection softened the blow 😁.

Also, cable-wise, the order was July 9th from inventory and in the boot were two charger cables:

    1. A type 2 to type 2 cable which I assume you use for untethered (home or public) chargers
    2. A type 2 on one end and female adapter on the other. It came with a 240v plug male adapter so I assume this is the granny cable when put altogether.

Car seems to be in perfect condition too.

Thats a bit nuts. Ask them for a new quote for the M3 and cancel the original insurance and ask for refund of the fee.

I had to do that 2 years ago for a similar reason, the cost to change was almost the same as a full years cover with the same company. See how you get on.

Good idea. I'll try the online form to see what it comes up with

So would you advise to take the car in Nov? I was advised I could defer the delivery of the car until Jan. Based on what you are saying I wouldlose my car and end up at the back of the queue for a 2025 car?

Tesla don’t defer cars. They give them to someone else. Then on January they will look to place you with a car. That could be Feb, Mar, apr…..
