There is no excuse in a digital age, for not knowing what the going rate for your job is. If you aren’t worth the going rate to your employer, move employers, the only benefit to you know what everyone else earns, is satisfying your nosey nature.

I am too long in the tooth to argue on the internet. You just replied to me inferring that I said something I absolutely didn't say, for some unknown reason.

If someone wants to disclose their wages, that entirely up to them. I think people should be allowed their own financial privacy.

What do you work at? How much are you paid? Would you be prepared to put up a wage slip as proof with other personal details redacted?

    I know I wouldn't.

Or the higher paid are simply more confident and better at negotiating. Not all work places or practices work on a merit based system.

When I heard a woman was arrested for harassing Simon Harris I thought it might be a woman from Mayo and not wicklow

Absolutely, but even still the ability to negotiate shouldn't be discounted.

I know it's not the point of this thread, but anybody who argues against pay transparency is happy for employers to pay as little as possible to their staff.

On the point of this thread - if Enoch shows up for first day of school, is it incumbent on the school to go back to the courts to sort out a new order and all that? Or will the courts kick in automatically?

I have been away and trying to get my head around the Enoch debacle but just read about pay and secrecy.

In the US when you meet someone new the first or second question is How much do you earn?

But back on topic how do I get a handle on the Enoch bit or is it all pointless and someone has money to burn or is it total lunacy??

Still stands. One of the terms of his release. No point in letting him out either. Personally, I think the should go to his home on the eve of the school reopening, ask him if he wishes to purge his contempt and take him back to Mountjoy if he says no.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I always find it quite amusing whenever pay-transparency is discussed how some people are completely unable to see how it would be ultimately to the benefit of all workers if everyone knew everyone else's salary.

Employers bank on the fact that there are enough 'useful idiots' out there to stop it ever becoming a reality.

Can we keep the thread on point please?

The school will share some of the blame if he turns up next week and disturbs pupils going to school and creates another circus. They should have him sacked months ago and it also means that we wouldn't have to be paying the ueseless shite money every week.

He was sacked months ago, many months ago.

He is being paid because of a live appeal.

The appeal is made up of 3 people, only 1 from the school board.

He was sacked. School did everything it could.

    No idea.

But as a pure guess, EB has filed some other kind of spurious reason for an injuction against the DAP hearing going ahead, and the High Court hasn't gotten to it yet.

(eta) or possibly, is appealing the loss of his case to overturn Justice Owens permanent injunction to the Appeal Court / the Supreme Court?

You can have merit-based pay. But if pay information is out there then you can be asked to explain higher pay by pointing to the merit that justifies it. This is of benefit to the employee because (a) he knows that higher pay is attainable, and (b) he knows what he has to do to attain it.

And giving workers fuller information about pay will of course improve their ability to negotiate.

Why are you trying to hamper workers from negotiating better pay for themselves, Yvonne? 😉

Mammy and one of the other brothers were having a rage whinge their post is delivered in a Van covered with Pride colours and the word Brod

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Good news that; that some-one in authority actually cut off something the Burke family feel they need.

Back on topic, which is not who earns what, or what is entered on anyone's tax return

https://x.com/EnochBurke/status/1824870634205139155 < the Burke tweet about the offensive post van

I quite liked David McRedmond's response to this ^^ (CEO, An Post)

Enoch starts his tweet with ‘breaking’ thinks he’s a journalist as well as thinking he’s a teacher. What a dose

For my sins, I watched the latest Josiah Burke video - or, more accurately I watched 90% of it. I did eventually take mercy on myself and turned it off. So maddening to hear that warped logic and total certainty.

It's not clear from what they're saying if they refused to allow the an post van to deliver post on their property or not, or whether they merely "took offence" but didn't actually refuse to accept post delivered by rainbow emblazoned post vans.

As always with the Burke's they're being deliberately vague or omitting some key part of the lead up.

According to the Burke's, An Post just point blank told them to install a post box - imagine the cruelty, the wickedness, a post box! - or else pick it up the post at the local post office.

There's something missing in the retelling there. If they refused to accept An Post vans onto their property, then it seems fair enough that An Post was willing to meet them half way by delivering mail to the post box on the edge of their property.

As is typical with these disputes they get into, there is usually an attempt by the other party to come to some compromise: but there's never any compromise with the Burke's. Our way or no way.

Their eternal sense of victimhood is quite amazing. They're arguing - again - that they are not being allowed to practice their Christian beliefs and, once again, I don't see how that applies in this case.

You can be offended by what's written on the side of a post van, but how does that interfere with you personally practicing your beliefs?

Of all their battles this might be the most stupid yet.

I'm waiting for the videos of them heckling and intimidating An Post workers on their way into a supermarket or as they walk down the street.

I imagine you are correct here.

The likeliest scenario is that the van came up their driveway and they got their knickers in a twist over the paint job and gave the poor postie an earful and then Daddy sent a letter whining and saying something like "don't send a van like that up our driveway again".

An Post probably responded with "Well , we can't guarantee which van will be used on your route on a given day so if you want to make sure that you never see the van then install a post box on the road outside" along with "because you abused the driver we aren't going to deliver to you for two weeks which also gives you time to install the post box".

Could be as early as Thursday / Friday.

IIRC some secondary's bring the new first years in on their own for a day or two first, before the rest of the classes come back.

Jebus. I actually thought you were kidding when you posted this, but now I find out it's actually true? 😲

Just when I thought the Burkes couldn't surprise me… they do it again!
