Caulk one side of shower?

    I noticed I have a very small section of silicone moving away from the wall, is it possible to recaulk one side of the shower or do I need to remove all of it? I've never used this stuff but realise silicone won't bond to itself, but if its going corner to corner would it be all right, as I've heard of tradesmen doing that when I asked around.

    Or better to remove the whole thing, which is annoying for such a small patch, however it leaking again would be more annoying.

    Do you need some sort of cleaning agent like methylated spirits/isopropyl alcohol even if the silicone comes away cleanly?

    Silicone does bond to itself, however you're better off removing what's there (there are silicone removers) and redoing it, maximise the surface area of the silicone, I.e. get one of those plastic tools to give you a good finish rather than making it concave with a finger.

    Well worth doing yourself, watch a couple of YouTube videos if you need to.

    Can strip the old caulk out aswell tools for that aswell, just careful of using anything sharp to not scratch the shower.

    Coiple of questions. What is the grey brittle stuff when I remove the silicone from the shower? Can I silicone over that gap or does it need to be filled?

    I assume I need to more thoroughly remove the remaining bits of silicone first? Even though it's a pain.

    grey stuff is probably grout from tiles. Yes give area good clean before applying silicone. You could prob fill the gap with silicone then apply a finish of silicone after it

    Depending on how well the bath is/was installed it can be good to half fill it before you apply the silicone.
    This means that it will compress against the silicone when empty rather than pull away when you use the bath.

    Ah, its a shower, ignore the above :)

    However, I dont see any evidence of a shower seal strip, so I would try to get as much silicone as I could into the gap rather than just on the face…

    There's no strip of any kind that I can see (don't know what that is as it appears to just refer to the door when I look it up, I guess the same thing but in the gaps), and water is leaking onto the ceiling below, I have the same issue on another shower now as well. Good idea I'll try and use as much as I can anyway, with a fairly wide bead too.
