Setting Up Outdoor Socket?

Wasn't sure if this was really Electrical or Smallholding. Figured …

So, I have this lovely, weatherproof plug box. Electrical everything's taken care of. Thanks. 'All' I need is ideas for how to actually 'anchor' the thing, please?

It's to go on a corner. Main track comes past it. Side track spurs off to run at a right angle to it. Relevance of all that is that there's 'Road' beneath practically every natural point ye'd choose to stick some support in.

There is a fence post there. Round, wooden one. But, that's already involved in electric chicken fencing and is best left well alone.

Though, perhaps something ~ like a 'Keep Off The Grass' sign; Staked into the top of the post? Maybe, somehow, clamped on? How though?

Up sounds good too. More naturally comfortable to get at. Also, something screwed to a little plaque and stuck in the ground at the base? Gonna be squashed by a deliver truck, isn't it? One day.

Just throwing it out there, lads. Boards Massive's heads gotta be better than one 😉

Around where I live, when people want vehicles to avoid their grass verge, they put rocks on them, and the nicer ones paint them white.

So that's my contribution. Attach it to a painted rock. May not be regs compliant.

@Lumen Funny ye should come up with the Rock idea. (Yeah; All the rage here, too) Only, I make Grave Stones. Yeah? For my Dogs. Inspired by some utility co. that has one or two such markers, along the track here.

Basically then, a small 'gothic arch' sort of thing. Made out of concrete, in a mould. Two rods of rebar set in them, sticking out the bottom. Spade a slot and pop one right in. Earth soon grips the rebar, of course.

Rebar, of course, becomes my enemy, in This situation. Never get a spade through that Road! 😄 But, yeah; I'd Really prefer Up. Just like the sockets on our walls. I even have some at chest height, here. Brilliant! Walk up and access! 👍️ So, That's a very attractive prospect. Moving towards some bloody Dais now though, aren't we? Hell of a rock!

Might a photo, of the spot, help here? I know I'll often ask people to 'take me there', when they're trying to explain a topographical situation.

Returning to the rebar? If I could somehow bend bar? I have a vague idea about fashioning like a fashion shop stand / display effort. Thinking like a giant hair grip. Slap a bit of plank across the loop / top. Fit the box to that?

I could, I imagine, drill pilot holes through the road? Dig the rebar into them? Wishful thinking though, as I simply can't sculpt that bar 😐️

I'm off to talk to the chickens, and probably grab a snap shot of the offending spot too. Might help inspire?

Now ~ Maybe? ~ The Dog can see the rabbit? 🙂

Green post? That's our main reference. Marks the corner of the Ground. Pretty much everything else This side of the green fencing? Council laid road. That little speck of brown there, front left of the posts base? That's pretty much " X ". That'd be the ideal spot. No? Top of the post height? Ideal!

What the hell are we talking here, lads? I can drill, for rebar. I can't Bend that rebar though 😐️ Haven't got a four foot standing stone either. A simple, two bits of bar? Fix a short plank across them and fit the box to That? I can just see it sort of coming with ye ~ or pushing away ~ as ye try to put plugs in / out. Too much give. (Damn!)

    What would YOU do? 😎

    What would YOU do?

What I have done is to ditch the electric poultry netting in favour of PVC coated weldmesh with a skirt and 45 degree outward overhang.

No more are my hens dependent on the vagaries of electricity supply 😀

Does make the chicken run look a bit like a prison yard though.

😬 How do ye do that 'Just quote the bit', thing, please?! If I ever want to highlight a specific passage? All or nothing!

All I see, with the above, is the little Hand icon, if I hover over ye stuff there. Clicking only gives me the offer to delete the lot!

Anyway; Plain mesh? Good luck with that, round here :meloni: I've got €K's worth of the stuff round this place. Constant effort, of Decades, trying to keep my Dogs in the compound. Point of fact? One got out. Straight into the chicken fence. It wasn't live, at that point.

Dog hit the mesh. Got slightly caught in it. Managed to get over and cost me two pullets, before I got out the stable door! Would've been the same with plastic covered mesh. He'd have got over. But, if he ever hits that fence, Live? Be the last time he ever looks sideways at it! 😂 Same goes for the foxes, badgers and pine martens here.

So; Square one, mate 😐️ I'm off to feed the Horses, this time. See if anything else happens 😉

    @Lumen! Ye couldn't make this up! 😃

In town, today. In the pub. Bloke I've never seen before. We make small talk. The weather. I'm trying to fit some jobs in. Trying to dream up a stand, actually. Only, I can't bend rebar 😕

The rest, as they say….! 😁

Would've helped, if we'd exchanged #'s. But, he told me to drop in an exact sketch and he'd sort it. He suggested a couple of cross bars too. For rigidity. As it's to be a simplified, flat top ~ rather than arched ~ It'll also be perfect for fitting a board to. To fix the box to.

I'm really liking the sound of this! Makes a good visual 🙂
