I've a real problem with the fact that the guards can stop and search, basically, who ever they like. I've been a victim of this and it's no fun being searched in public just because a guard had formed the opinion that you look like you might have drugs on you.

They can also stop and search a car if they feel like it. These searches can be extremely intimidating.

If you refuse the search then they will arrest you.

Unless you are targeted and have repeat stop and searches against you, there is no case. Gardaí are allowed to get it wrong - just not repeatedly.
