Searched by guards

Got stopped by 2 guards, they searched me under misuse of drugs act, stating they had spotted.me snorting something. They didn't find anything on me and let me off. I was polite and complied with their requests. Will there be any follow up on their part or is that it?

Surprised they're out on the streets at all. You'd nearly have to have a protest outside the library to have them show up at all these days.

I've a real problem with the fact that the guards can stop and search, basically, who ever they like. I've been a victim of this and it's no fun being searched in public just because a guard had formed the opinion that you look like you might have drugs on you.

They can also stop and search a car if they feel like it. These searches can be extremely intimidating.

If you could show that searches were being carried out in a manner that constituted harassment or discrimination you would have grounds for a complaint.

What happens if you do not give them permission to search you & you have nothing. Would you be if arrested? then you could claim since their "reasonable suspicion" was wrong.

If you refuse the search then they will arrest you.

Unless you are targeted and have repeat stop and searches against you, there is no case. Gardaí are allowed to get it wrong - just not repeatedly.
