Probably be a bit forgiving this year, not next year ….

    Diageo rule festivals …

Its Sad that drink companies rule most festivals now …….

WIll that mean bag searches too. Cause of my leg I had a small collapsible seat in my arena backpack. Was hoping could sneak if no searches but that also an issue now

Could easily be a mixture of a late enough requirement and ATN burying it till week of.
    btp did the same

If there are proper searches going in now EP style it would escalate this from a minor issue to fairly big one (for me at least) - those checks and queues everytime you go into the arena really take away from a laid back atmosphere.

But my one year at BTP where this rule was in place it wasn't like that, more so a quick glance in the odd bag rather than airport style pat downs.

I tend to walk into the main arena with an open can in my hand and one in my pocket.

Never seen the point of carrying in more as they just get warm.

I'd be guessing it's to stop peeps from carrying in a crate and flogging it inside the arena. Which I've seen happen…

If I'm thirsty inside and there's multiple gigs one after another I just go get a fresh Guinness.

God they'd amazing pints last year.

Ah it's great to have the option. Small cooler bag with 4 or 5 cans for when you want to stay in the arena for a few hours and not have to keep going back to the campsite to top up. It's really poor form from ATN to sneak this in at such a late stage.

The sneaky bastards with that updated drink policy. Very shady.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 422 ✭✭sh89000

It's not the end of the world, you'll always sneak 3 cans in regardless but was great with little backpack with 6 and be set for the evening. Very sneaky last minute change that definitely takes away from the magic of ATN

Couple of questions on boutique campsite if anyone can help..

Do we need to aim for a different gate for boutique car park? Don't fancy having to trek from general car park if we don't need to.

Is there a shop in boutique camping which sells ice etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 715 ✭✭✭Blackie_IRL

It depends what type of security check, at EP for example there was patdowns, checks of bags etc, pretty full on, this approach would lead to long waiting times to get into arena and would be a real buzz kill. The approach they should take is light touch, maybe people with bags have to open, or a simple have you got cans in there etc would suffice. They'll still need to setup for this and it will still slow access to arena down but it's less invasive. I hope they're doing this to appease Diageo and in reality it won't make much of a difference, but its only a matter of time now, bars at festivals are cash cows, 8 euro a pint

Sleekit, as they say up here. Hope I don't have to use my Nordie Voice in a Debate.

Yes, there's a boutique carpark, there's a general entrance gate and inside that the traffic splits for boutique, it's well signposted. No shop in Boutique. Londis in general camping.

No shop or ice in boutique unfortunately but there is a separate carpark which is only a few mins walk from the camping. Last year we went in the general entrance and then veered off for boutique carpark there was a big sign you couldn't miss it

They can go shite :( , usually just bring an open tin and a few in the arse pockets anyway then go for pints but i'm not going to be walking around with ale pouring all over my arse now (aware there are easy ways to not have an ale covered arse :D but that doesn't add to the effect here)

ATN is my only big festival due to free flow, if they've removed free flow then this'll be the end of it for me anyway :/

Yeah i won't be back if they've done away with free-flow. Especially the sneaky underhand way they seem to have gone about it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 50 ✭✭Nux_BlackThumb

there'll be ructions if they use the opportunity to spy on and take my spicy fags too :(

Right lads, that's my Out of Office on, I'm out of here at 4pm and hopefully in 24 hours time I'll be in the queue to get in.

Safe travels to Curraghmore folks. If you see a long-haired fella wearing a KLF top late at night, it's a good chance that's me - say hello!

Latest forecast ensembles for All Together Now site shows not too much rain Friday, 2-6mm and Saturday fairly dry, good news is Sunday looking far better but uncertainty around timing of rain, most likely after midnight based on this latest info. Temps around 18c to 19c high Friday and little less Saturday and Sunday, lows of around 10c at night Friday and Saturday night but milder Sunday night. Wind gusting to 60kmh-70kmh Friday but much lighter Saturday before picking up again Sunday to gust to 60kmh-70kmh. Thursday looks perfect for early setup.

I'll be posting more updates on my Carlow Weather socials tonight and through Friday and Weekend, especially on Instagram.

Roll of clingfilm might do the trick too for keeping them from spilling in a carrier tray.

One of these for next year if they're going to enforce only opened ones you can carry:

The impact to actual entry to the arena would piss me of waaaay more than the lack of bags of cans. And i dont see how this is enforceable while maintaining free flow of people.

Anyone ever have an issue from ATN with the large calor gas tanks that are in Campervans?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,267 ✭✭✭Joekers

Would love to know how much more the drinks companies think they make in sales when they don't have free flow vs free flow.

I would say we bought more alcohol at ATN bars last year than any other festival over past few years. The Guinness as people have mentioned was exceptional.

Treat people like adults get adult behaviour it's not hard to understand.

Will be very disappointed if this is strictly enforced.

No, they ask, you say no gas, they wave you on.

The addition of the new entrance near Pink Moon to the back of the house makes even more sense now..…

I'll bet Last City will be excluded like Salty Dog was for years and the checks will be just before the Bandstand area

this, this and more this. I’m not on ‘proper’ social media but for those who are maybe start drumming up some bad press for ATN and Diageo and maybe they will tell the lads on the ground to go easy 😀…of course they might ignore and the head honchos will just say Marie Antoinette style ‘let them drink piss (rock shore) ‘
