Thought the exact same re Maher. Can't be far off POTY nomination imo. A colossus

    Congrats Armagh.

Thought they would win narrowly, maybe after ET, but they got the job done in 70 odd minutes. They showed a little more courage than Galway I thought, Galway had more than enough possession to win but we're happy to hold it passively and not really engage with Armagh in attack, while a Armagh u thought were more decisive and able to penetrate the centre of the Galway defence easier throughout. Armagh lost their heads a bit late on and made some poor decisions with the ball in the final quarter, but they were good enough to just fall over the line.

From a Galway POV, too risk adverse in tactics and selection. There were big decisions to make around Walsh and in particular Comer, {who is there in reputation and not on any form he has shown in competitive games over the last few years) and they weren't made. They seemed happy to stay in the game and not actually push on to win it, while I thought Armagh were more direct and focused on actually winning the game.

That said, only a kick of a ball between them, a ball hits a post and goes wide for Galway and another hits a post and goes over for Armagh.

A decent watch I thought anyway, better than a lot of stuff on TV of a Sunday afternoon.

Not blaming them, I also pointed out to Walsh's age being against him. He looked a tiered player compared to two years ago. He has had two long seasons and yes Joyce has rested him as much as possible but Kilmacud have been at the business end of the AI club championship for the last two years and he has been involved with them.

It nothing about fitness. There us a reason there us a sub committee set up lol at football rules. The reason Kerry lost is not entirely down to fitness. A serious lack of leaders and decision making on and off tge field.

Armagh abd any other team can only play to the rules. The present rules are making the games boring.

There is a Keryman on the side line for Armagh and you can see his influence on the team

Medal ceremonies should be for winners, Charlie Haughey and no one else 🤣

THat is a fair point. The way intercounty teams set up now there is little or no opportunity for the more gifted ball players to express themselves

Am I right in saying Armagh didn’t lose a single championship game………

After all the talk about a team losing three games and still winning it
The only team not to lose a game won it

They also didn’t lose a game in the league

Was only thinking afterwards when you mentioned about the ball hitting post and going wide and vice versa that Comer's Hawkeye wide looked like it would have been a point if it was a couple of foot lower, it just barely touched the line of the post in the image and would have just glanced it and dropped over if lower.

    Galway completely bottled it.

They lost the League Div 2 final to Donegal. But looks like they have a very impressive record alright.

Thought the refree did very well...unlike the hurling last week he got all the big calls right. Armagh just about deserved it but Galway will be sick tonight...the forwards left them down

Armagh joint 4 favs for next year a bit disrespectful maybe? Think I’d have them ahead of Donegal and Galway. Feels fairly open next year, don’t think I’d fancy Kerry at 5/2

I was thinking the same. 2025 will surely be one of the most open championships ever.

there is probably fully 8 teams where I wouldn’t be shocked if any one won haha

If the management weren't telling him to do it, he should have taken his own initiative and come out to midfield just to get on the ball.

I can't believe the Galway management took him off, rather than move him, while they left Walsh on the pitch who was costing them scores.

is this the start of the decline for Munster and Leinster counties in the football? Derry league champions, Armagh all Ireland champions, Tyrone 2021 all Ireland champions, Donegal back in all Ireland semi final this year, Cavan and Monaghan consistently competitive in All-Irelands, Fermanagh in Divison 2 now and Down nearly back in division 2.

It will be kerry or Dublin back again to sail through.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,082 ✭✭✭ledwithhedwith

ah I don’t have much hopes for Dublin at the moment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,381 ✭✭✭Seadin

It will be one of them. Kerry really should have put Armagh away, they were the better team until 55 mins and then for some reason switched off.

While I can't help but have a wry smile at galway unceremoniously bottling the final, mainly due to the pompous sh*te talk their fans have delighted in sending in my own county's direction down the years, I can't help but feel sorry for walsh. He seems a quiet, unassuming lad and this will be hard to get over. The reality is if it wasn't for him they wouldn't have been there in the first place.

I see Joyce blamed Walsh in his post match interview. He's some man for picking a scapegoat

Kerry's fitness was shocking in that game. They were out of gas before the 70 minutes were even up. They were never going to put a serious team away in that condition.

This has to go down as one of the greatest managerial achievements ever in the GAA! McGeeney has taken Armagh from nowhere to All Ireland champions. Yeah, it took 10 years but it was some amount of work to build a squad and a culture to get to that level. Armagh have some great players but on natural talent, they wouldn't be in the top 6 in Ireland.

70mins of terrible "entertainment ",Galway trying not to get beaten for most of it,Armagh good at what they do,but no great shakes. Armagh had an answer every time Galway got a score, mostly run straight at them and kicks points, Galwa5on the other hand spent to much time fannying around the 45/midfield.,as for Joyce, he must be the only person in croker that would leave the 2 main men on for so long, both should have been hooked by 45 mins

what a piss poor game of rugby/soccer as that certainly wasn’t gaelic football. Underserving winners.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,066 ✭✭✭gym_imposter

Mcgeeney has a will of iron, tough uncompromising character but seriously tenacious

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,055 ✭✭✭WesternZulu

Hope this puts an end to the myth that Galway are a great team to watch with free scoring forwards.

They’ve played the same for years now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,454 ✭✭✭rrs

Armagh have a few players who could bow out on top . Grugan, Campbell, Murnin are 33/34. Aidan Forker is around that age too. They might give it another year ,but I don't see them retaining the All Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,763 ✭✭✭irishgeo

Before the Galway fans start dishing it out they should perhaps make sure they turn up and win it first.

In what way were they undeserving winners? I agree it wasn't a great spectacle, but at least Armagh took their chances when they arose and I think all their scores bar maybe one came from play and they scored some terrific ones. They got it right on the sideline too, the substitutions all had an impact. I felt Armagh showed a lot more composure and leadership when it mattered. Galway played the game like there was nothing at stake. They got exactly what they deserved.
