    How bad is Joe Joyce?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,294 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

That was a good scrap and the atmosphere was very good for Chisora having his last fight at the 02

That was just sad. Both shot but Joyce genuinely looks like a novice now

I'm embarrassed for Joe Joyce. Top ten heavyweight made look very amateur tonight.

Chisora gets the win and I’m delighted for him, Joe joyce doesn’t have much left it seems

It's all over for Joyce. Zhang really took everything out of him. Still as an amateur and pro he's reached levels very few ever do.

They’ll be back plugging Chisora as a world title back in the mix contender now. Pathetic

mad Chisora was 4/1 for the win

Hopefully someone gets in Joyce ear and tells him to walk away, he was getting so clean and often from a 40 year old Chisora, I honestly think guys like Wardley and Ituma would beat him now.

Chisora vs Whyte 3 in Manchester nailed on I reckon.

Joyce is not really any different to how he always was. He seemed to be talking lucidly after the fight. He is just too slow and pondering. Chisora’s basic head movement made Joyce look like a statue

joyce can’t box like he used to, his jab was non existent and he used to have a good heavy jab as we saw with dubois it win him the fight really

Chisora says he wants two more fights, one in Africa.

I'm not saying Joyce won but I thought he won five rounds. I had it 5-5 but the knock down gave it to Chisora.

Joyce needs a change of coach to see if he has anything left. His game plan tonight was awful. He should have been staying at distance using his jab and wait for Chisora to lunge and catch him coming in. Getting in a brawl with Chisora is doing exactly what he wants.

Gotta blame his team for that unless he isn't listening.

enjoyable enough fight that but a total brawl. Both are done. Joyce far too open for getting it and in 10 years time Del Boy will be fed with a spoon.

I was listening to Carl frampton on commentary who said he couldn’t call the winner and it was a very close fight

I'd agree scoring seemed very wide to me was expecting chisora to shade it maybe a split decision.

He was exhausted from the second round and running away in parts of the last few rounds if joyce had any composure surely he was there to be taken out, Joe is finished too

Well his game plan was shocking. Is he not listening to his coaches or are they staying stupid? Like going into the Zhang fights lighter than ever was ridiculous as well.

You’re always full of excuses for Joe!! He was just never that good.

Joyce fought an incredibly dumb fight, he just needed to use the jab and he would have been fine, but just kept walking into Chisora and got picked off. Joyce is a gent compared to Chisora but no sympathy for fighters who fight so stupidly .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,927 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

But the question is whether he decided to do this or did his team tell him to?

As I said earlier, going in at your lightest weight ever to face Zhang was the height of stupidity. He wasn't able to push him away and kept getting caught as they broke from the clench. You have to wonder if that was his team's idea too.

If they are responsible for both then he needs a new team around him. I'd love if he went to Andy Lee who did a great job on Parker when it looked like he was done.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,978 ✭✭✭✭walshb

How do we know the type a job Lee did with Parker? He beat a woeful and washed up Wilder, and scraped over the line v Zhang, who had he had a bit a decent stamina would have knocked Parker out.

Parker gets hammered by Fury, AJ and Usyk. And nothing Lee has done changes that.

Where was Lee when Joyce was pummeling Parker?

Joyce is done.. Lee would do eff all to change that

trainers always get the blame when things go pear shaped but at the end of the day it’s the fighter in the ring, joyce didn’t bother with the fundamentals of boxing and paid the price, simple jab would have kept Chisora at bay and hurt him badly, when he came in close how many uppercuts did we see land ? Naff all

Joyce has never had a defence and always relied on hitting harder and more often than the opposition while absorbing whatever came at him with his head

Joyce was never any good. Maybe top 10 but probably not at any stage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,927 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I only asked the question if it was Joyce or the coaching.

The reason I'm thinking it could be either is because of the decision to be at his lightest weight ever to fight Zhang which was nothing short of insane. As was the decision to get in a brawl with Chisora.

Both could be on Joyce, it could be one on both or both on his trainers.

I don't know but it's two very bad decisions made in recent times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,294 ✭✭✭✭OmegaGene

how can we be sure the weight loss was the reason joyce lost to Zhang in the first fight, could have been the southpaw caught him off guard or he just sparked him out with a haymaker, could have also been his chin was gone to wear and tear and he’s just goosed

The unpredictability if the sport at this weight is what makes it so appealing I think

He wasn't able to push off from the clench. He got caught every time they broke apart. If he had the weight on he'd have been able to push off Zhang.

Whether he won or lost it was a stupid decision.

It may have been Joyce's decision though, we don't know

It definitely could be suspect coaching/poor advisors but at the end of the day Joyce is his own man how it didn't occur to him to fight Chisora behind his jab is beyond me and I agree it was a close fight too.

In my opinion Joyce himself and his team underestimated Chisora. I feel they believed it was a matter of walking him down and eventually get the highlight reel KO in the mid RDS on an exhausted Chisora. Job done the juggernaut is back.

When Chisora kept coming the plan fell apart because suddenly Joyce's lack of defensive prowess was put squarely in the spotlight. He had been coughing up rds by getting consistently caught flush and suddenly there's score cards looming.

vs Zhang his lack of defence crucified him too. Maybe the weight thing was a we'll be fit and tire Zhang out move which tbf is a solid plan. It didn't work but again that's down to his defence.

So look in hindsight sure it would have been beneficial if he could have bossed the clinch but Zhang was landing heavy leather from range too.

Ya just can't be taking flush shots regularly from the likes of Zhang and unfortunately for Joyce he's always been too reliant on his chin bailing him out.

And as we've seen that only works for so long no matter how tough you are.
