Maggots in lambs feet.

We went through this last year and the only thing that even went near controlling it was weekly footbathing for five minutes in zinc sulphate and even that wasn't great; we do the lambs with clik and that ensures they won't get maggots in the feet. footbathing should be killing the maggots anyway. and it's important to dry the lambs on concrete or gravel after footbathing. A bit of sheep dip iadded to the footbath should work on the maggots too

Get a good long acting antibiotic from your vet and inject the bad ones.

In desperation last year we put the ewes on footvax, it took a long time to work but we haven't had a lame lamb or ewe this year

Question on lameness. My best Suffolk ram is gone lame in the last few days, got injections from vet to treat him but made no difference. Paired the hoof today and noticed he has a cavity now. Smell coming from it and when squeezed you can notice puss coming from it just above where the hoof meets the leg. Has been injected amd treated with blue spray. Not putting much weight on it but holding condition.

If he's bad, one injection isn't much good, even the long acting ones only work for a few days. there's very poor blood circulation to the feet and antibiotics don't work that quick, he might need another one .

you should get the ram fertility tested when he's better before you depend on him with ewes.

Went back at the hoof this morning, paired it back until I reached puss and then drained it out. Sprayed again and injected. Hopefully this will see him right.

straw price will be the final blow to sheep enterprises, last year here they used .75 bale per ewe on a shorter winter. I havent been quoted yet so don't know the price. TG I don't have 600 anymore

At least the bales are well packed anyway,hateful to be buying half packed bales.What type of straw is that?

Haven’t enquired about straw here yet this year but am sure there will be a good hike in price as there is less of it on the ground.

Still lame but not as bad as he was. Had a lump just above the hoof that burst the other day and alot of blood and pus came out of it. Have been spraying with blue spray and injecting (advice from vet)
