Definitely, it was magic. The general camping was so close to the main arena/stage - where silk road is now I think.

Oh yes, the first year was absolutely fantastic. I went on my own to a festival for the first time ( had a few acquaintances to hang with) and had the absolute best time. Small crowd, beautiful site and the trees with the googly eyes. campsite right by the main stage. Magic! My last year in a tent also, campervan the next year onwards. ( if only the walk from the current campervan field was shorter, it withered us last year)

4th ATN for me, jumped ship after EP 2018 (the crowd during Kendrick was the last straw), but 2022 was the magic, Nick Cave and King Gizzard in particular were off the hook and coming back after COVID too, just brilliant.

For all the moaning about the line up from some quarters I think its packed! Loads to enjoy.

Friday hopefully starts with Fizzy Orange, then Fynch, Glass Beams, (+/- a bit of Declan McKenna), Yaya Bey, Ben UFO, Confidence Man/Murder Capital/Kiasmos, Sloucho, then whoever seems to have the best vibes

Assuming I'm still alive on Saturday, on to Sing-along, Soda Blonde, Overhead the Albatross, Hak Baker, Mary Wallopers, Chalk/Kojaque (haven't quite sorted that out in my head yet), then Floating Points, Roisin Murphy, Reclaim the Mainframe/King Kong Company

Sunday: Talking Heads, Mary in the Junkyard, Shakalak/John Francis Flynn/Wailers/Beach Fossils/Jealous of the Birds (f**k knows what I'll do with that omnishambles of a clash/overlap), OXN, Future Islands/Sprints, Just Mustard, Houseplants, Slowdive, Prodigy, then probably bed.

And I might try squeeze in a few more here and there, I'm in full festival goblin mode.

Cannot wait, gonna be fooking brilliant.

Good to hear you’re making the trip again sir! I’ll be in Australia, so have a good enough excuse for not making it. Give it welly for me and catch you next time!😀

edit - the eyes in the trees as mentioned above, they really should have kept that going!!

@Dunph omnishambles is the best word I've ever heard.

Anyone know if/when the resale option will be available to sell tickets?

I spotted them in Waterford the Monday after last year's ATN while I was passing time, waiting for transport back to Dublin. They were in a fine tree in public view in a busy spot, in all fairness, but they need to be reinstalled within ATN, where they belong. Love dem eyes!

I don’t see anywhere that tarps are not allowed, definitely gazebos are banned…but tarps are good, right? Saw a few last year and it looked like a great way to have some protection from the elements between a couple of tents.

Can you put up a tent and attach it to a campervan in the campervan site?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,395 ✭✭✭rino87

The sheer joy at that Jimmy Cliff gig was something I've never experienced before or since. A very special moment!

Maribou State at that first one were phenomenal also.

Was at the first 3 all magic..... missed last year as we just welcomed twins. Looks like I'm gonna miss this year too... I got to get to BTP this year, which was great, but the missus has a bunch of mates going to EP, so she is going to that. I totally forgot how close EP and ATN were this year so I've had to bow out of ATN. I was in a hoop for weeks after BTP, still not right if I'm honest 🤣

Figure I best be on top form with the kiddies for EP weekend so the better half can go enjoy herself. Always next year!!

    Have a ball everyone!!

I wouldn't do it right away, but I've always seen plenty of tents "appear" in the campervan site once the place settles down and everyone is in.

If its an awning attached to the van, that can be a different story....they need to leave a couple of metres between the vans as a fire break, so the big drive away awnings are usually a no no. The wind out ones are fine.

2018, although a bit light on acts, was indeed a special weekend. Mogwai earburstingly good, Chaka Khan, New Power Generation, Roisín but just the whole feel of the place, the excitement of a brand new festival, the incredible weather....that's the best I've felt at a festival, no doubt. Hope this one hits the same heights for you all!

Still too early but the weather forecasts are looking good......

Loving how positive this thread is, this is gonna be a good year, I feel it!

Am hoping Roisin Murphy's return to ATN main stage is as enjoyable as that wonderful 1st ATN. Fingers crossed this weather holds, the ground stays dry and we all have a terrific festival.

I've enjoyed reading the posts about what people are planning on heading to so here's my current plan of attack…. Serious business is the acts I'll go see even if none of my crew are heading along. Looking doubtful I'll get anyone along to Kink but I'm working on it!

    Friday…

The serious business is from 7pm: Glass Beams / Ben UFO / Confidence Man / Kiasmos / maybe a bit of Backstory / Kolsch

Earlier on, show up for throw-in at 2pm in the Canbium Club with Donal Dinneen and his dance to remember, then some random wandering til Glass Beams.

    Saturday…

The serious business: Le Boom / Floating Points / Kink

Less "must see" acts but plenty of good stuff to keep me busy. If I'm up, Panti Bliss vs Earthman Bob at lunchtime is a difficult one - perhaps I'll catch some of both. I'll be spending most of the rest of the time going between the Lost City, AVA and Cambium Club (or keeping people company at something they're interested in). Fingers crossed JWY doesn't clash too badly with Le Boom although looks like she will. I may end up at Gorgon City late night although more to hang with mates than them being first choice.

I'd love to see The National and Roisin but was at their 3Arena and Olympia gigs in last 12 months. Not seen Floating Points or Kink in several years so prioritising them.

    Sunday…

The serious business: Tommy T / Oxn / Mano / Mathman / Kalkbrenner

Also I'll definitely be wandering around Ping Pong Disco and ELG more than is mentioned above

And if anyone knows any DJs who'll be playing 90s dance, or DnB / jungle, let me know!

Re: gazebos/awnings/tents there's rules against them but seem more honoured in the breach than the observance, the campervan area is lousy with extra tents, gazebos, standalone and fixed-to-van awnings. I'd leave it until the evening to set anything up as there will be some light checks while vans are being parked (same with gas, don't fire anything up til saturday) and you should be grand.

Sounds like glass beams and confidence man will pull big crowds on Friday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,420 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Reckon Confidence Man could pull the biggest crowd of the weekend.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,053 ✭✭✭grudgehugger

On the wrong stage to get the biggest crowd. The likes of The Prodigy will be bigger, right? It’ll be a busy one though… I’ll have to skip the last 30 minutes of Ben UFO I reckon.

I assume no way they’d be moved to Main Stage this close to kickoff?

Went to 2019/22/23. Pick of the bunch for me was 2022, then 2019 with last year being the least enjoyable due to lack of vibe compared to previous two years (i don't blame the weather for this, it just felt slightly more corporate and there was too much downtime with no music happening).

Previous years were just me and one other, this year will be the first one we'll have our core group of three plus one more so i'm expecting even more laughs than usual. Music wise will mainly be whatever catches my ear. Most acts i'd be interested in i've seen before and none of them would be faves of mine but i'll be thinking of Slowdive, Just Mustard, Prodigy, Glass Beams, Confidence Man, Hot Girl, Shark School, Cardinals, Oxn, Chalk, Wailers. Late night options? Hopefully something will tickle my ears and tweak my noggin but i have my doubts.

    Still, PMA eh?!😁
