    Hi,

Just got my first quote (Cork area).

    12 x Jinko Solar Co., Ltd. 440 Watt Panels (Jinko 440w N-Type panel (JKM440N-54HL4R-B))
1 x Solis H1 Energy Storage 5kW Hybrid 5G Inverter with DC (Solis)
    1 x Weco 5.3kWh Battery (5K3XP) (WECO Batteries)
    1 x Solis 5-year extended Warranty, 1 x FSS, 1 x Eddi with Hub, 1 x BER

Eddi free as part of promo

Total System Price - €11,182 (€9082 after grant).

Is that saucy? Or is it a good price with the battery?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 870 ✭✭✭iknorr

Whats the warranty on the Solis with the extension? 10?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 870 ✭✭✭iknorr

    option 1

    • 20 Longi 435w PV panels.
    • 5 kW Solis hybrid.
    • 5kw Weco Battery
    • All mounting, access, accessories etc included.
    • BER Cert

    12,000 including grant.

    option 2

    • 18 Panel PV System - 430 Watt Panel - 7.74kW
    • Ergocell 5kw Hybrid Inverter ( i think these are rebranded myenergy libbi)
    • Ergocell 5kWh battery with Off-Grid Socket
    • Tigio Optimisers each per panel * 6.00

    11,000 including grant.

    Any thoughts?

Am I right thinking that 70% of the cost of these quotes is labour?

Seems like most of the material can be easily got for under €5k (1.5k for panels, 2k for inverter, 1k for everything else)

    Yes.

In most cases it's Materials plus Labour plus BER plus The Grant (added in order to be removed later). Materials may well appear as more expensive too than retail, despite being VAT free. From this total you then deduct the grant to complete the subsidised illusion.

My first ever quote had an €800 inverter listed at €2200. I've yet to commit to a solar installation as the return on investment seems paltry, but I note a contraction in prices from the more flexible sole trader type operators, and with quotes for non grant qualified work being published.

As is always the case with Grants, and the sellers market they tend to create, the grant gets built into the price. Only when demand might fall and competition might resume will you see true Grant exclusive prices.

Note some posts back, the comment about being charged €3000 to add a battery costing €1000 retail, and how you might feel if an electrician charged you €2000 to wire in your new oven and hob costing €1000. Fortunes are being made judging by the recent tens and twenties of €millions of corporate majority share takeovers of modest solar and heatpump installation firms, which are essentially just chaps in vans and a rented industrial unit for the materials and office.

Heres a typical engorged quote I received in 2022 from a big name Window company with a Solar branch/acquisition.

12 panel solar PV system = 4.44kWh, 5.0ktl  Huawei hybrid Inverter + 5kWh Luna hybrid battery etc..

    Price €17195.00

    Discount €2545.00

    Price €14650.00

    Eddie €750.00 (hot water diverter)

    Total €15400.00 before grant.

You got to love the 'discount' line, a completely meaningless bit of psycho babble that is designed to give you a 'phew' sense of relief after the shock of the original 'pre discount' inflated quote. Like a price sticker for a €20 tee shirt with '€30/€20!' printed on it.

Hi all,I’m new here only ,you’re get good prices for all your quotes, can you send me in pm these companies if u can please, thanks

What's a decent price for adding additional panels to an installation?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,247 ✭✭✭Paul Kiernan

Kellihers currently selling 440w panels for €68+VAT so that plus whatever the installer charges for installation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 7,998 ✭✭✭deezell

Plus Roof hooks, rails, joiners etc. Not trivial, maybe €50 per panel. Heres a materials quote for a 12 panel system with nearly €600 of panel fixing hardware highlighted.

13 x jinko panels, 5kw dyness battery, 5kw sofar hybrid inverter, eddi & zappi wall charger = €10650 (after grants)

    Good, bad or ugly?

Would it make better sense to go without the battery and add battery later (as DIY, I mean if it's as simple as connecting a few leads to the inverter?

435w panels, sorry, didn't know there are panels of different power… I am an absolute noob.

I don't know what the going rate for fitting a zappi is so maybe others can advise.

    Option 1 - 12,000

    • 20 Longi 435w panels. 8.7kw
    • 5 kW Solis hybrid inverter.
    • 5.3 kW Weco battery
    • 7 Tigo optimisers

    Option 2 - 11,000

    • 18 x Aiko 455W panels – 8.19kW Total Power -Aiko Neostar 2s
    • Goodwe Single Phase Hybrid 5kW
    • Goodwe 5.4kWh battery
    • 7 Tigo optimisers

    Anyone hear of Goodwe ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 10,305 ✭✭✭✭con747

Goodwe have been around a good while, plenty here have them. Use the quote analyser posted a few posts back to see. Optimisers add anything from €60/€90+ on top depending on company.

    nice one.

Both are coming in on the lower end of the recommended range. So good to buy.

If you had a choice of the Solis or Goodwe what would you recommend?

Also, never heard of the Aiko panels but they look good, was set on the Longi but these Aiko might temp me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 870 ✭✭✭iknorr

zappi v2 can be bought for 600 + install. So usually about 850 would cover it depending on complexity of install.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,458 ✭✭✭positron

Wow, the quote for zappi was 1500 (or 1200 after grant). Install is just inches away from the meter box, couldn't be simpler (unless connecting yo inverter in the attic is tricky, it shouldn't be, just one straight wall).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 10,305 ✭✭✭✭con747

I have the Solis and no major complaints it does what I need it for, some have issues but it depends what you need it to do. I think there's a Solis thread here so have a look. As most people here say, the best panel is the cheapest panel. I never heard of Aiko before but seems to be a good panel, look down a bit on this link. https://www.cleanenergyreviews.info/blog/best-solar-panels-review

10 quotes I've gotten so far for Dublin on a standard tile roof. Quotes incl mounting, fitting and electrics works. You can see a premium being put on smaller systems as mentioned by others here before. Also a significant variance between lowest and highest cost for similar size and spec system. Will be continuing to look for more quotes.

16 x Jinko 435w panels, 5.5kw hybrid inverter, BER = 8500 (after the the grant).

No Eddi (another 650), no Zappi (another 1600) and no 5k battery (another 2500).

I really can't seem to get any better deals that this. Where are folks getting decent offers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34 2dizzylizzie

Whats the brand/make of the inverter?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,458 ✭✭✭positron

    Sofar HYD 5500-EP

Have gotten what I believe to be a fair quote, as set out below.

Would be interested to hear thoughts on adding another battery on top of this for a further €1500 and if any me meaningful benefit of going for Huawei inverter and battery for added cost over Weco and Solis.

    18x Jinko 440Wp

    5kW Solis hybrid inverter

    5.3kWh Weco battery

    Eddi

    BER cert

€9,250 ex grant (€11,350 pre grant)

Really good quote for battery, eddi and ber and 8KW system, good quality Jinko

Got 2 quotes recently for 12 x panels and inverter:

One was €8400 and they do paper work for BER

One was €6200 and do the BER myself, for the sake of 30 minutes work on SEAI website I'll veer towards the latter.

A BER costs 280 I got one done recently for my mother in law's house unless it's a different type of BER for a solar installation. Mine was for a house sale.
