He's too frail in general and doesn't sound on top of his game - the years have caught up with him.

He's back "trump filling out his scorecard before he hits the ball" very good

Not a total meltdown but the 'Vice President Trump' thing will be the soundbite, especially after the 'President Putin' one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,549 ✭✭✭Raoul Duke III

I don't think this moves the needle either way, which is probably the worst outcome.

He has no charisma , and is very flat.

The sad thing is you can see the shadow of who he was.

Biden should say that's going to be the situation in November if Democrats don't come out and vote. Wouldn't be an inaccurate statement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,209 ✭✭✭Sandor Clegane

The problem for Biden and the democrats is that now everything has become centered around his competency, he's under the microscope and every slip or gaffe is being highlighted and the fact he makes so many is burying him, its at the stage where Trump could become a school shooter and this race would still be all about Biden's health, its not right but its the way it is.

Americans don't care how bad a person Trump is, they voted him in once and they'll do it again even though he's worse now, it just doesn't matter to people.

If Biden stays in this race he will lose, he can't come back from where he is.

He seems to need 3 seconds to collect his thoughts every time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,245 ✭✭✭✭briany

If Americans don't care how bad a person Trump is, why did he ever get voted out?

Trump didn't create a great economy. He inherited an economic recovery from Obama, eased a few regulations and was going around like he transformed the USA overnight. He also shitt the bed when COVID hit. He is the definition of a fair weather captain.

What it is is that there are a certain proportion of Americans who will vote for Trump no matter what, but there are plenty of Americans who fully recognise what a greasy crook the man is. Trouble is that if they don't have something to vote for, they're just going to be apathetic in too many cases, and Biden hanging on puts their participation very much in question.

At this point, the reasons Biden may win (his equity) can be assigned to any Dem candidate - i.e. Trump is arrested or dies or has a major gaffe such that it makes him unelectable

    Reaching for his earpiece there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,549 ✭✭✭Raoul Duke III

Sadly, the thing that most American voters will see on their big and small screens will be clips of Biden calling Zelensky 'President Putin' and Harris 'Vice President Trump'.

    That's the age we're in.

President Biden looks very weak in this conference, why he didn't choose retirement, I don't know, but he's not winning an election, most powerful position on the planet is not looking good for us all ,

Reminds me soooo much of my dad.

The stare, the robot hands, the "well, anyway".

Ooh, the unofficial journalist at the end really dumped him in it with the question on the Harris/Trump gaffe!

He was alot better than I believed he would be.

I had visions of him being escorted off the stage after a series of frozen moments.

He got away with it but only extending the inevitable by a week or 2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,245 ✭✭✭✭briany

To be honest, he sounded a bit better than I expected him to, overall, but the VP Trump gaffe will be doing the rounds for the next few days.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,458 ✭✭✭✭markodaly

    The conference is over now.

    Not very inspiring.

Not a complete disaster, but nowhere near enough to ally fears.

So, the Dems will continue to tear itself apart for the next week or two.

Didn't handle it ,ol Joe is goosed, Harris up next on the ticket, won't win imop ,so Trump again ,if it wasn't so serious on a world scale it would be a monty python sketch.

Well there was good and bad there for him. More bad to be honest.

    The good:

It was better than the debate. He had 1 real howler for sure but overall not too many soundbites for Trump.

He gave a lot of detailed answers and sold himself as a successful President.

    The bad:

    Vice President Trump...

He rambled for ages, often nothing to do with the question.

As much as it was a good look to have done so long a presser, it's not a good look that every reporter was hand picked, and as we've seen recently there's a high liklihood that the questions were vetted if not issued by Biden's team.

The one unscripted question he faced, he cut and ran. He really needed to give a strong answer to that and he made a childish "well what about him" response and shuffled off.

Two or 3 major howlers , he didnt come across great, looked frail and weak .

I think he went on a bit on the pre planed questions but overall he wasnt as bad on them but it might aswell been a bag of sand talking , he had zero charisma.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,643 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

I agree he looked weak, but 2 or 3 major howlers? I thought only the VP Trump one was really bad. Especially right after the Putin blunder a few hours before.

The rambling and "anyway" stuff is pretty standard.

There is no way anyone in their right mind thinks it is sane to run Biden as the Democrat presidential candidate at this point.

Its crazy not to mention inhumane the humiliation he is suffering on the world stage. He has completely lost it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,215 ✭✭✭✭AbusesToilets

I thought it was a strong showing from Biden. He engaged with complex topics in detail, demonstrated a deep understanding of the issues and showed a stark comparison to Trump.

He's not getting younger and that's the issue that he has to grapple with.

    Things that apparently don't matter.

    1) unblemished 8 years as VP

    2) unblemished 4 years as POTUS

    3) Restoring the US economy

    4) Dealing with a global pandemic properly

    5) Surrounding yourself with competent staff, as opposed to family members and grifters

    6) Restoring the reputation of the US on the international stage

    7) Being able to talk competently on difficult and complex US policy

    8) Coming across as compassionate, hard working and trustworthy.

Apparently, when under immense pressure by your own colleagues and the US media, scrutinising your every word, making a mistake and immediately correcting your error is enough for your head to be called for.

Perhaps he should have called for a hurricane to be nuked, or said that windmills give you cancer, because that **** slides no problem at all.

Elect a clown... Expect a circus
