What's a 2 bed second hand apartment going for nowadays?

How are people stumping up the crazy money for such poor quality?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,455 ✭✭✭evil_seed

anything from €265k to €325k on daft (most aptly named site)

Planning gone in for 62 apartments at Mullen Park, front of the estate just behind Lidl.

There was work going on around there a few weeks ago. The blue hoarding was being replaced and the ground seemed to be getting cleared a bit.

Planning app is by the developer of Mullen Park but that does not preclude them being sold to an AHB or the council.

I guess that will be used as another excuse for the link road between Straffan Road-Mullen Park-Griffin Rath-Celbridge Road not to be opened up for another 3 years……

Are the Cairn Homes metal fences ever going to be removed at Mariavilla?

Do you mean the ones at the Dunboyne road junction? Wasn't there an objection to the plans for apartments holding it up? It also suits them to hold onto that land bank as long as possible as prices increase in the meantime.

Looks like work is starting on Grange Park, the new ~100 unit estate beside the school on the Celbridge Road

Planning granted for apartments on the land by the catholic church:

I've heard the ones on the Celbridge Road are all Social. Can't confirm this though. Could be wrong. Another 105 dwellings emptying out onto the already congested roads around the town. Madness.

Only amendments to a previously approved scheme hence the relatively quick process

Where would you put the 105 homes, if not in a town and location that has direct access to roads, rail, infrastructure & facilities?

I'd have a traffic plan in place alongside the development.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 72,812 ✭✭✭✭L1011

There is an extensive traffic plan for the town in the new LAP

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,868 ✭✭✭tnegun

I'd like to see some of that plan delivered before adding more new homes. Promises regarding Mill street upgrades have been part of every councillor and TDs promises for the last decade, if not longer, and we're still waiting.

There is a traffic plan. It also isn't mandatory that you own a car, in order to live in the new homes.

Is it not? Are you sure? I thought every house had to have two cars these days.

Yea there might be a plan but feck all of it will be implemented.

Mariavilla junction is an absolute nightmare at certain times of the day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,109 ✭✭✭BlueSkyDreams

    Yes, I am quite sure.

If 105 more people get a home, that's probably more important than some drivers having to sit in traffic for an extra 10 mins a day.

If they can afford the homes and they arent bought by some foreign pension fund which has already happened in the town.

Seriously though. Traffic is at crisis point in the town. The roads cant handle the sheer volume and increasing volume of traffic year on year.

When something being a capacity issue is also a capacity issue everywhere else in the country, it isn't realistically something that can be seen as a reason to stop.

The estate is on a road with a bus every ~15mins most of the day, 24h bus services; is a short walk from shops, primary schools, GPs, and a train station. There isn't a much better site available.

Is everyone forgetting that we were selected to be the most decarbonising-est town in Kildare? Sneaky council make roads so bad people can't use them.

Having a strategy to get past traffic at certain times of the day is quite frankly bizzare. There are roads that I avoid at certain hours of the day. I walk or cycle where I can, but there are times I need to bring the car. Yet we vote in the same council candidates over and over again.

Progress in this town is a shambles, there's a road between LIDL and the Celbridge road that can't open for the last number of years because of …… reasons. The ring road has been discussed for years, and yet the bit they are actually starting on doesn't address the University traffic at all.

Can they have an estate that is all social nowadays? I thought that was a thing of the past. My in-laws live at the end of Rail Park just across from Fitzgerald Close. That junction is going to be a disaster when the new development is finished in Fitzgerald Close. They did raise their concerns with KCC and the CC who lives on that road but nothing came from it.

Am Yisrael Chai - Bring them home.

Entirely social estates can still be built. Including the one you're having issues with the road junction for.

There's been planning for an estate on that land for about two decades now; the time to raise concerns about impacts of developments there was, unfortunately, two decades ago.

There would have been an estate built at that time there except for the financial crisis.

Did they not have to reapply for pp? Traffic issues including population and student numbers have increased rapidly in 15 years. Shocking they didnt have to factor that in to a new application. The town is bollicksed with lack of infrastructute for motorists. The green argument simply is not a sufficient reason not to improve the roads.

We will end up with a Mariavilla / Moyglare road mark 2 opposite rail park now. That junction is bananas at school going times due to the lights sequencing. They'll lash in another set of lights for good measure on the Straffan Road. The usual know all posters on here here will fully supportive of it no doubt. " Walk, run, get a kid carrier for your bike" The usual crap from the hippies.

Imagine selecting a university to the most de-carbonised town. Absolute genius Councillors we have.

The only politician getting my vote is whoever makes the ring road happen.

And not opening the bit that's already done, I mean the motorway to the college bit - the bit that is actually needed.

None of the current lot are getting a vote.

That's in the new LAP, approved by all the local Councillors. It's not going to happen until there's significant development over there; and no politician who claims they can change that is telling you the truth.
