putin has definitely been on steroids, that bloated face is highly indicative of it. I have seen that exact same look on others taking high doses steroids on a long term basis. And yes steroids even on at small doses do change behaviour.

Biden has done an extremely bad job at communicating that defeating russia in Ukraine is in America interest and that defeating russia is undoubtedly the morally correct action.
His failure in communicating this contributed to the delay in arms for Ukraine.

It's an opinion piece by a left leaning journalist in a left leaning publication. Just because you disagree with the opinion, it does not make it malpractice.

In any case what is wrong with the statement: “Republicans are not the only party being led by a geriatric egotist who puts himself before the country"

The only way you could disagree with that statement would be if you felt that Biden's age was not a factor, he has shown no decline in mental acuity in the course of his presidency, and you think he is genuinely capable of serving another four years as US President.

    But that's clearly ridiculous.

An example of journalistic malpractice would be to continue pushing stories that Biden is sharp as a tack and there is no doubt about his ability to serve another four years.

We saw plenty of that up until the debate, but after the debate, it wasn't going to wash with the public so journalists had to pivot to reporting the truth.

    Nonsense.

The delay in helping Ukraine is down to the Russian sycophants and fascists in the GOP.

Of course not liking a headline does not make it journalistic malpractice.

However, lazy both sides headlines which may or may not be the point of an article hidden behind a pay wall is.

it sounded like a good explanation at the time, at this stage its all "fog of war" , its not worth dissecting

The GOP were able to delay because people believed the tripe they were selling. That’s is in part because Biden didn’t explain why supporting Ukraine is essential.

No, it's because they want Ukraine to fail and voted accordingly. The desperation some people have to blame Biden for absolutely everything is ridiculous.

Oh please. The members of Congress who were holding up Ukraine funding were not doing so for want of a more erudite debate on the matter.

mentioning religious Eschatology as not being ideal for political relations isnt racist except in the mind of someone who sees everything as racist perhaps?

a lot of Americans don’t believe supporting Ukraine is a good idea, they think it’s a corrupt country, a war that cannot be won and that NATO provoked this conflict. Biden did not do a good job countering this narrative. Do you think Biden did a good job explaining the Ukraine situation to the American people ?

I think the Republican party is a fascist abomination that supports Putin. The gop is responsible for what the gop does.

American "democracy" is unrepresentative so it almost doesn't matter what real Americans think.

American "democracy" is unrepresentative so it almost doesn't matter what real Americans think.

This is an attitude that appears to be fairly common in US politics. Political elites think they know better than the electorate and are then surprised if the electorate has the cheek to disagree with them at the ballot box.

It is exactly why the Democrats are in the hole they are in at the minute and at risk of losing this election.

Of course if they do lose, they will not realise it is because they will think that is the electorate is at fault rather than their candidate or campaign, and will be doomed to repeat the same mistakes in the future.

Anybody who claims to care about democracy, ought to realise that by definition the electorate is always right.

If the Dems lose this election it will be because the American people decided that the Democratic candidate was a weaker candidate for president than the Republican candidate.

Individuals may of course disagree, but the if you lose a democratic election, you have proved inarguably that your candidate and campaign was weaker than the opposition.

If you're unable to grasp the simple concept that putting Biden into the same leadership style bucket as Trump, in any way, shape or form, is **** journalism, then I'm perfectly happy with you sticking to your point and being so convinced you're right, that you devastatingly finish your point with a laugh emoji.

woosh. Missed Ancaps point I think.

Take the Senate for example a body which had to approve the Ukraine aid.

    To clarify:

The least populated 20 states have the roughly same total population as California. They have 40 seats in the Senate.

California represents almost 12% of the population of the United States but only has 2 seats, or 1% of the seats in the body.

This is partly why it really doesn’t matter under our system what the majority of Americans think.

Thanks. This was exactly my point but I was writing it at a bus station. A state like Oregon gets a Senator for a hundred or two hundred thousand people. California gets one per 24 million. It makes the UK look like democratic utopia.

I daresay that if I googled how many Americans support a woman's right to choose and tallied that against the composition of both houses of Congress, I'd be unpleasantly surprised.

Can also look at it like this, people in Wyoming get 1 senator per 290,000 persons.

    California gets 1 per 19,000,000.

Fair enough, I missed the point ancap was making and jumped to the wrong conclusion based on the line I quoted. My bad.

So the point I was making was irrelevant as a response to ancap's post I quoted, but it is not irrelevant to the discussion of the US election and Biden's bid to get reelected:

Political elites think they know better than the electorate and are then surprised if the electorate has the cheek to disagree with them at the ballot box.

The electorate, including registered Democrats, have shown in extensive polling for past few years that they don't think Biden should run again, their principal concern being he is too old for another four year term in such a demanding job.

The Democratic party have totally ignored what the electorate think and pressed on with Biden regardless, presumably because they believe they know better.

That strategy is currently looking to be a risky one.

But nobody should be surprised by that.

    this isn’t true really either.

See you may have forgot but they ran a primary against Biden (GOP canceled their own 2020 primary, all hail king Trump see) and lo and behold despite these fabled polls, the voters let Joe run away with the vote by a very high margin too. Can you even remember the names of his opponents? Who really backed them? Nobody else stepped up to the plate and it was an open field.

You're correct, I cannot remember the names of his challengers, presumably as they were non-entities. Nobody credible wished to challenge him since he was an incumbent president.

That's been the norm. If you want a future tilt at the nomination, don't challenge the incumbent.

Before Biden announced his plans to seek reelection there was plenty of evidence and discussion about the polls showing the majority did not wish for him to stand again.

Perhaps if the Democratic party had used their influence at that point to encourage to bow out with dignity, there would be less discussion now about the idea of forcing him out.

Really, so you mean Biden administration is as bad as the Trump administration ?
