Thought it might be handy to have a thread to stick in any events coming up that people know of and want to share.

For example today the Cannonball Ireland rally will be coming through parts of Sligo - Ballintogher, Ballygawley, Tubbercurry on their way to Ballina with al their high powered cars. It's for the Jack & Jill Foundation.

Next Friday, 22nd September 2023 is Culture Night - all events are free and listed here: https://culturenight.ie/location/sligo/

More Culture Night events listed here, they don't seem to all be on the main site

  • Thanks for posting Miamee and Magnum Lady. Is there a central source on the web that promotes/informs of such events in Sligo throughout the year?

@[Deleted User] I find out about different things on social media (facebook and instagram mostly) and @magnumlady blogs about various happenings in Sligo too. Might be worth following her blog or facebook page to keep up :)

There are plenty of things happening around the place for St Patrick's Day, including some gigs on the new Queen Maeve's Square. The events on the link below are in Sligo town only but if you know of other local parades or events, post them in here too :)

There are a number of events on in the county for Biodiversity Week, 17 - 26th May. You'll have to select Sligo from the drop down menu to see the relevant events on this page:

Sligo Airshow is back this year, 27th & 28th July: https://www.sligo.ie/event/sligo-airshow-2024/2024-07-28/

Tickets are available at the link above there but we had a fantastic view (coincidentally) from the side of Knocknarea last year. There were plenty of others up there watching it too.

Seems like this just got cancelled. Not seen them post about it yet but my ticket got cancelled with the reason "Organisers of the Sligo Air Show have confirmed that the event has unfortunately been cancelled.."

Yes I see that on OceanFm earlier, poor ticket sales maybe?

On the plus side, the Ballygawley Music Festival is on this weekend, they are well into the build now we passed it by last night

Very hard to encourage people to pay for something that they can literally see for miles around without a ticket. Great views from Knocknarea last year for example. We had bought tickets but had family coming that weekend to visit and had sent them the link to buy tickets also. They left it too late so it was sold out and we decided to climb Knocknarea instead. We hadn't expected to see much but had a great view when coming down the Strandhill side, there were lots of people there with camping chairs, blankets, kids tents, the lot all very well set up for the day.

Having said all that, I don't know what the reason was, OceanFm just pointed towards potentially low ticket sales being one of them: https://www.oceanfm.ie/2024/07/16/sligo-air-show-pulled/

Heritage Week starts on Saturday and there are quite a few things on around Sligo over the week. Here are the listings, events are free but several of them need to be booked in advance as numbers are limited:
