With an injury ravaged squad and a red card after about 20 mins. Should have won that series too, let that one get away a bit.

We have only played 7 times in SA since the game went pro. 2 in 98 which we obviously lost cause it was the 90s, 2 in 2004 which were 14 and 9 point losses and the aforementioned tour in 2016 which we lost 2-1, all games decided by 6 points incidentally.

The squad in 2016 was far worse than what we have sent down this time.

Let's not forget that SA are in transition themselves, with new attack and defense coaches. Aside from our injuries, now is exactly when you'd want to play them. Kitsoff is a massive loss too.

So was theirs in fairness sa rugby was at a real low. We should have won that

We cannot use Keenan as an excuse given his absence is entirely down to some utterly baffling decision making on our part.

Clearly the IRFU decided, for whatever reason, Ireland didn't need Keenan in SA.

It's not an excuse first off, but he is a big loss

The decision was right IMO, why wouldn't he try to win a golden medal at a Olympics?

    Kitshoff is a loss

    for Ireland!

Ox is the far better LH these days and tight with Bongi.

Poor Porter will have to play 75mins v Malherbe & Koch.

I do suspect SA will win on Saturday (I’ll wait until we get official team selections before making my final prediction) and going into the tour I was pessimistic but now I’ve a feeling a lot of posters are suffering from confirmation bias. It seems these posters are only looking at the negative factors affecting Ireland and the positive factors affecting SA and making a prediction based on that, there seems to be little to no objectivity in the analysis to the point I’m starting to doubt the credibility of it.

I just know if this was Ireland and we were first in the world with a new attack and defence coach playing our first game of the season at home versus the number 2 side in the world I know we would be going into this series with doubts and would at least mention this as a reason to be cautious…but here not a peep (I suspect if SA lose it’ll be used by posters as a method of damage control though).

With Willie and Pollard expect a game plan similar to Bulls game plan, kick kick kick

The lack of speed in the Ireland backs could be an issue

You've been absolutely f****ing painful about this point.

Why is it when you say "I do suspect SA will win on Saturday" that is somehow based on your definition of objective analysis, but when others say the same thing (and provide their reasons for doing so) they're suffering from "confirmation bias" and "only looking at negative factors"?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,122 ✭✭✭Shehal

The key difference is they are playing a Farrell coached team rather than a Leo Cullen coached team so I hope they dont expect for it to work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,122 ✭✭✭Shehal

Which point exactly? If you consider it painful then you are easy to annoy.

Well because SA are at home and are ranked higher than Ireland, the objective view point at this moment is to back SA to win. The issue I have is when I look at the analysis written here I've seen little to none done on the issues facing SA, which are actually legit reasons to have doubts about their chances, but then will back against Ireland because they are tired, based on nothing more than just the fact its been a long season rather than anything we've seen from the Irish players.

If fans wanted to be objective they could just look at facts such as this is ultimately a big clash between two heavy weights where SA will likely come out on top because they are at home and are the current world champions…but nope, we must go into hyperbolic nonsense that I wont even bother repeating just because Ireland lost their 2nd game in 23 matches and these fans can get over the pain…at the end of the day the bookies have this as a 1 score game for a reason.

All I'm saying is if Ireland win I dont want to hear any crap such as "SA were in transition" from the said wingers on here, they've had their chance to mention it and they blew it.

Youve just disagreed with what hes said by doing what he said

I'm saying that about 5 times now on this thread, you've gone off on this bizarre thing of accusing anyone who says they feel Ireland will lose of not being objective, but now you yourself are saying you also think Ireland will lose.

I think Ireland will win cause I'm an eternally optimistic fool, have a lot of faith in Andy Farrell, don't think SA are all that much outside of World Cups where they have ridden their luck a lot and cause I mostly just really, really want them to win

I thinj itd be an impressive win by ireland rebuild or not

Was never really going to happen on this tour

SA are desperate to beat Ireland

Ireland want to continue the good flow with Farrell before he goes, I expect the AI will be more experimentation that this tour

South africa gave a 22 year old 10 his debut vs wales last week and put him straight into this weeks team vs ireland despite the player ahead of him being healthy

People dont want constant huge change just any meaningful non forced rotation

Mngomezulu? He's there because Willemse (and Moodie) is injured.

Well ive only said it once or twice so I dont see how I could have said it 5 times, learn to count maybe?

Ah I see, you cant disagree with what I'm saying so you are now going to either try twist my words, put words in my mouth or a combination of both.

I said the REASON's given on this forum of why Ireland will lose for the most part are not objective, they are based on everything working out for SA and Ireland being "tired" or "jaded"…I dont know if the Irish players have said they are tired/jaded because unless they did I dont know how anyone could come to this conclusion. People are naturally feeling pessimistic going into the tour and as a result will suffer from confirmation bias by using any fact they can to justify it, regardless of how accurate it is.

Either you are trying to twist my words or you are just illiterate.

Mod: Enough of the sniping / attacking the poster. Any more and there'll be warnings / threadbans.

Calm down, would you speak like that if you met face to face.

  • Administrators Posts: 56,245 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

    I don't think we'll win.

I think SA really, really want to win and I am not sure where our players heads will be. The majority of them are coming off the back of very disappointing seasons where the same fragilities rose to the fore again. Few lads injured, another off on a junket.

There's nothing really on the line here either. I would not be surprised if a few minds are already thinking about the beach.

Without wanting to sound overly negative, I think for the first time in a long while there's a genuine risk of us being comprehensively beaten.
