5m Sliding Door - 2 panels too heavy?

Hi

We have an opening of 5m x 2.4m and thinking of filling with a 2-panel Aluminum Lift & Slide system (each door 2.5mx2.4m) - double glazed.

However, we're concerned that it will be very heavy and not easily operated by kids. The alternative is go with 3 panels but that adds an extra divider and like the simple look of the 2-pane setup.

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of setup or similar?

You'd only need one sliding & one fixed, right?

Can't anser your question about the weight for kids but the Vendor should be able to speak to it based on his experience.

The rollers eventually fail so I never spec sliders, and especially if it is a constant access back door.

In any event they get opened fully 2 days in the year.

0.006m by 2 by 2.4 by 2.5 by 2500 kgs/m3 = 180 kg before any frame or hardware

Depends on the age of the kids but should be easily opened with the lift & slide by a 7-8 year old

understand the risks but our main concern is we haven't been able to operate a door of this size - most showrooms have 4mx2.3m two panel setup and if it is closer to 5m they display a 3 panel setup.

That calculation is useful to be able to work out the weights… you have any experience with our weight of sliding door?

I don't go there except for small ones and even at that..

Am in a house at the mo with 4 that are there 20 years, all 4 are FOBAR and I risk putting out a disc when opening some of them, parts unavailable
