SA players should take a look at how NZ reacted to back to back WC's.

I didn't see the amount of noise coming from coach's or players during their period of dominance.

I think it is the opposite, Ireland seems to be living rent free in Rassie head.

Sexton came out and apologised, in fact he told the panel what he said when they had no evidence becuase the ref's couldn't hear

This was all done in heat of the moment

He got a ban, should he have got more games? IMO yes because we need to stop ref abuse

Rassie created fake accounts, sat down and done videos etc. Days after the match.

Plus when he returned from his ban, he did the exact same thing to ref's again. When they got death threats he just shrug his shoulders and went on.

It's a poor poor comparison if that is what you are trying to make

I said at the time he should have got a ban for life from rugby, nothing has happened since to change that opinion. Also if he loses a game this time wait till you see the reaction.

Ah ya our guys good because he said sorry 😂 im sure an apologies the difference with rassie

Heat of the moment? He wasnt playing he was a supporter

As i said hes used similar motivations throughout his career see him standing over rog or carbery im not sure many people called him pathetic for it because its a big part of what made him in my opinion our second greatest ever player

    Rassie is an incredible personality.

He has nothing but contempt for us and still some Irish people are slavishly devoted to him.

Whatever you think about him, his charisma is undeniable.

I absolutely love how despite SA winning the WC, Ireland and the Irish players are still living rent free in their heads. That is ultimately sign of respect!

i think its more that this is part of their sporting psyche. Its kind of like jordan (an incredibly unlikeable person by all accounts) basically making up slights to motivate themselves. This kind of thing seems to be part of the south african sporting psyche. Its not really based on logic, other than getting every single mental motivation possible to get right to the edge physically.

It's just weird how public they make it. I get the locker room talk about disrespect etc, it's just very unusual to have the entire squad taking to the airwaves to push it. I'll be honest I've never paid enough attention to know if they are like this against every team.

Can't wait to see what happens when we win the first test by 30 points, with the ref giving South Africa a contentious red card, Irish players saying, "good game, see you in the final in 2027", and Joe Molloy giving Erasmus a wedgie as he walks into the presser.

I read this as "Joe Brolly giving Erasmus a wedgie" at first - don't think I've ever been more confused in my life.

They seem to believe that they can get inside our heads. I agree that's weird and probably counter productive. Why give us motivation?

Watching the Euros, would it be an idea if once every 4 years they had a Euro style tournament in rugby with Portugal and Georgia , with semis and a final , replacing 6 Nations for that season . a way of rewarding developing teams ,and drama of finals.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Paid Member Posts: 32,773 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

Yeah, it's often brought up but the 6N is such a money spinner it is hard to countenance. Anyway, the new nations league or whatever the hell they are calling it has utterly screwed that as a concept even though frankly I'd rather the euro type competition.

Which is the most tired, boring, uncreative '…in your head'

    a) rent free

    b) Zombie ?

Essentially "stealing" another team's song and trying to change the lyrics to make it about you is one of the more…..weird things to do.

the nations would need to provide money for the tournament, this seems to be the struggle

None can compete unless they have a league or a pro team in a league….trying to create a nations at international level is Italy and it’s a huge struggle for years and only now, fingers crossed, seems to be a good product, but the Irish u20 victory is a huge setback for them

    https://www.planetrugby.com/news/he-cant-tie-victors-shoelaces-springboks-legend-and-coach-launch-stunning-attack-on-sam-warburton-and-ireland

    This is absolutely bizarre.

They dug up some random comment from Sam Warburton (who, last time I checked is not Irish) from February, and proceeded to launch into a pretty bitter rant against Ireland.

No one in the Ireland camp is taking their bait so they’re going down into the archives looking for something, anything to be angry about.

The host is trying his best in fairness but this deBruin character says that we’re third or fourth best in the world “if we’re lucky” and actually SA didn’t want to beat us in the RWC.

Victor Matfield is just… I don’t know if there’s any other word but bitter.

What is wrong with these people?

Would anyone know which pub(s) near Marlay Park will be showing the Ireland game on Saturday? Going to Kings of Leon but hoping to catch the game close to the venue first.

    My Guess

South Africa: Team named tomorrow at 1pm.

Willie le Roux; Kurt-Lee Arendse, Jesse Kriel, Damian de Allende, Cheslin Kolbe; Handre Pollard, Faf de Klerk; Ox Nche, Bongi Mbonambi, Frans Malherbe; Eben Etzebeth, Franco Mostert; Siya Kolisi (capt), Pieter-Steph du Toit, Evan Roos.

Reps: Malcolm Marx, Thomas du Toit, Vincent Koch, RG Snyman, Kwagga Smith, Ben-Jason Dixon or Marco van Staden, Grant Williams, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu.

    IRELAND: Team named Thursday.

Jimmy O'Brien; Calvin Nash, Gar®y Ringrose, Bundee Aki, James Lowe; Jack Crowley, Conor Murray; Andrew Porter, Dan Sheehan, Tadhg Furlong; Joe McCarthy, Tadhg Beirne; Peter O’Mahony (capt), Josh van der Flier (Leinster), Caelan Doris.

Reps: Rónan Kelleher, Cian Healy, Finlay Bealham, Ryan Bird, Cormac Izuchukwu no Tomoney, Craig Casey, Ciarán Frawley.

    Score: 28-12

its not going to be epic.

I'd be surprised if we're within 12 at the end, to be honest. I think the players are totally jaded at this point. Physically, they should be fine but mentally, I think the coaches have a huge task on their hands to get them in the right mindset and level of intensity. I've seen very little from any province over the last month to suggest they'll be able to really push SA all the way this weekend.

Plus it shouldn't be underestimated that our backline is very much reduced from where it was a year ago whilst they will be missing only Williams who is replaced by WLR…..which is probably the equivalent of us missing Ringrose and replacing him with Henshaw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,122 ✭✭✭Shehal

So their basis on Ireland being third or fourth in the world at best is because…wait imma check…Wilco Louw got the best of Porter in…one match? There's straw clutching and then there's this…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,122 ✭✭✭Shehal

Ireland are a big team, being jaded is not an excuse. If we are judging based on the URC then SA should be scared judging on how poorly their sides did…even the Bulls who got to the final only have 3 players in the squad who you'd consider established internationals.

You didnt just try put Le Roux on the same level as Henshaw did you, no the gap between those two is huge. Maybe Le Roux at his best could have an argument but not Le Roux today.
