Lockie Ferguson 4-4-0-3. Ridiculous. I know it was PNG but still. Puts six sixes in an over into a distant second place.

No other associate nation making it to the super eight's apart from the USA means that Ireland automatically qualify for the next World Cup, although no point qualifying for these things if you perform as poorly as they did in this one.

Incredible indeed from Lockie Ferguson. The PNG batsmen just kept missing the ball, it was amazing.

missed the earlier game but watching West Indies absolutely destroying Afghanistan live now… West Indies batting first and are 73/1 after 4 overs, ball disappearing to all parts. This is nuts 😳

Brilliant batting, but the bowling is appalling.

85/1 after 5. Run rate is 17.0 per over currently.

So the Super 8's should be interesting, unfortunately the Toss appears like it is going to be mega crucial.

Very much coming in to the rainy season in the Caribbean now and regardless the nature of the pitches will be to bat first, stick 150 on the board and pitches will slow up.

The ICC need to stop pandering to the Indian cricket board, the and the ECB and Aussie board dictate too much. Alas, this argument is for another day, but i fully expect the remainder of the tournament to be a bit of a let down on the factors i have outlined above.

    Hopefully not though.

Surprised to see Afghanistan were trashed like that. Good to see the hosts firing though. England Thursday will have the bring their A game going by that.

WI one of the favs on home soil for sure. Luck will be needed to win this tournament.

I wouldn't totally discount Afghanistan as yet to reach a Semi Final.

I still think India will win it. Bumrah can win a match on his own in 4 overs, and that is without mentioning the big guns with the bat.

Not sure it was mentioned above but Lockie Ferguson didn't concede a single run off his 4 overs yesterday. First time ever been done in a world cup.

South Africa 194/4 beat USA 176/6 by 18 runs, entertaining game

missed getting to see it but looking at the playback, how crucial will over 19 have been ! Rabada takes a wicket then concedes just 2 singles in that over.

untidy from England…. 4 overs in, conceded 36 runs, taken no wickets, very untidy bowling, and untidy fielding….as I type Sam Curran comes on and continues the poor form.

King retires hurt 😬. Might be a spot of luck for England. Going by how he’s moving I’d be surprised if he can come back,

English bowlers not finding their mark, too short or too wide, sometimes both.

England now batting but whilst only two wickets down are struggling to hit boundaries…. Keep finding fielders with otherwise very good and powerfully hit well timed shots , it’s weird…

England score 30 runs off the 16th over. No extra deliveries bowled 😳🔔

8 wicket victory with 2.3 overs remaining…. Their slow start with the bat and it looked like an uphill task such was the RRR but the West Indies bowlers lost their way towards the end, a few big overs, lusty hitting and if you can’t beat the fielders, hit it over them ! Salt & Bairstow the match winners, two sublimely entertaining innings.

England, well Sal and Bairstow were excellent. I'd still have my concerns about Englands lower order if they lose early wickets.

There are better players available than Livingston out there who i'd trust more to play an important innings, granted he's handy with the ball.

Sam Curran for me isn't what he was as a bowler.

Anyway, i still don't fancy England, or South Africa to win this.

This has India written all over it. Too short a price to back now.

India will look unbeatable until they fall in a heap when the pressure of the knockout games comes on.

England back on the horse big time. Came into the tournament undercooked after all the rain in the warmups and Scotland game. Earned themselves a lifeline with the Oman demolition and wouldn't be surprised if they go all the way again now.

One thing that worries me from looking at England… the lower order…Curran, Archer, Rashid, Wood / Jordan, Topley…

The batsmen have to perform….If the batsmen don’t get the runs it’s extremely unlikely that the above lower order will be able to be the innings lifeboat and contribute many…aside from Curran the natural batting position by talent for each player above in T20i’s is 10/11….

If I was an opposition coach I’d be hammering that into my team, slightly more aggressive fields early and pushing for wickets….keep a wide-ish first / orthodox second slip in for the duration….run saver / catch taker

If England lose wickets they are donald ducked …. Great batting lineup for sure but if you can get wickets and get into that long tail, not easy but it might be a viable tactic, aggressive field from the first delivery….

West Indies annihilated Bangladesh , Australia should do the same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,862 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

West Indies didn't play Bangladesh, probably Afghanistan you are on about?

Australia beat Bangladesh easily, Bangladesh did their usual, block block slog, they have no idea with the bat, 140 wasn't going to win any match. They are a poor side, 0 wins from 15 combined vs Australia and South Africa in world cups.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,585 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

yeah Afghanistan I meant to say 🤦🏻‍♂️

Jesus some start from SA… 6 overs in and they are 63/0… Curren conceded 12 off that last over….timid bowling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,695 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Casual from Wood, de Kock too so huge moment in the game potentially. Seen them catches given hundreds of time though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,585 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

England and Rashid think they’ve got a wicket but it’s given out on the field but after 1685 replays and about 5 minutes the third umpire finally overturns the out decision. The ball was close to touching grass but no way on earth could that be 100% concluded his fingers weren’t underneath it to complete a fair catch before the ball contacted grass. Almost gut feeling umpiring…

Out on the field should have remained in my view. Nothing evidential to determine otherwise.

Archer gets DeKock… Buttler with the catch that will surely be in the running for catch of the tournament. England needed that.

Then Butler again, runs out Klaaaen from about 50 feet away. 😳

England threw that away… last 3 overs they only scored 17 runs….

No surprise to see Sam Curran flatter to deceive with the bat yet again. Only averages 13.5 in T20i’s

10 runs today from 7 deliveries faced, just 1 boundary…hit a rank bad full toss in the last over straight to a fielder.

South Africa thankful they had an over of Nortje left and didn't need to go back to Baartman for the last over. Good game. QdK the difference specifically his powerplay batting. England in contrast completely misfired in theirs. Great catch to get Salt vital where again Wood left QdK off with his catch.

West Indies steamroll USA, that's more like it from them. Sets up a great final two games of the group. England should beat USA tomorrow leaving winner takes all in the SA vs WI game later. South Africa despite being undefeated still aren't through

great start by India against Bangladesh…. 23/0 after 2 overs. Rohit and Kohli looking very aggressive from the get go with the bat.

wish these umpires would grow a pair….Constant dissent and questioning of their decisions by Bangladeshi players which is not unexpected, they’ve been at that craic for forever… going by the what I’m seeing these pair of eejits instead of telling them to button it are almost apologetically going into detail as to why they haven’t awarded wides and also no balls on height. Answering every query / criticism of their decision / performance… 🤦🏻‍♂️

India were cruising here with the ball… but gradually getting a bit careless…. Bangladesh have wickets to spare, if they start middling a few more it could get close but India still in poll position…

Kuldeep and Tanzid with a bit of an unsavoury stand off post Tanzid being given LBW. Kuldeep gesturing out ☝️for a number of seconds just beside Tanzid as he walks 🤑… spicy !

Bangladesh are a load of rubbish. They put more effort into silly appealing and posturing than trying to win games. They are 30 years at it now and are as useless as ever. Not surprised they lost a series to USA beforethis tournament, at least USA have a positive approach and don't play scared. Bangladesh do, they are afraid of the bigger sides, and not good enough to bully weaker sides. They are a pointless team who were given test status because it would mean another vote for the South Asian bloc.

afghanistan are the same, just watching the game vs Australia and the Afghans with a review on a delivery from one of their spinners that clearly pitched a few inches outside leg. Not borderline. A slow bowler so it’s all happening in slow mo time. Never looked out and replay showed it wasn’t, but a massive appeal full of decibels, emotion, borderline aggression as well as pure desperation….👀

well done Afghanistan! Outstanding performance, bat, ball and fielding. I called it last week that I wouldn’t be surprised if they made the semi final and have given themselves a great opportunity. Delighted for them!

If only for that idiot Stoines and the send off he gave Gurbaz after he scored one of the best 50,s I have seen in this format on a pitch like that

Maxwell almost did it again but he had zero help. He made 59, next best is Extras with 16. Could have a proper hiding without him. Big game for them against India now.

Gulbadin Ul Naib, Afghanistan’s 8th bowler in the innings to be thrown the ball… takes 4 wickets in 4 overs and only concedes 20 runs. Some stat…

I agree with the earlier comment regarding the state of the pitches… drop in pitches, drop in / pop up stadia…. In a country with limited pedigree of the sport….. What do the ICC expect… players and cricket fans getting screwed because the ICC want to grow the game at a lucrative market for them.

ICC on June 7th… “ some pitches not yet up to standard “. Well, whose fault is that ICC, hmmmm ? 😵‍💫

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,862 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

They are portrayed as a fairytale story, but should be suspended, and are also outright cheats, some good players in a team that shouldn't be playing. The ICC don't hold them to the standards of other countries. The cheating part in case anyone is wondering involves running out a batsman despite the ball crossing the boundary. The fielder pulled it back into the field of play and threw it, and it resulted in a run out because the chicken umpires were intimidated by the Afghan bullying on the field.

Rashid gets Jones, delighted for Jones ☝️

Complaining to the umpire after the delivery before because it was not called a wide, replay showed the umpire was completely correct, close alright but not a wide, Jones gets bowled by Rashid next delivery. 👏🏼. Off you go lad.

USA have only hit 8 boundaries in 12 overs.
