    Paraphrasing?

no, that’s literally the name of it. There’s nothing there to paraphrase.

They’re not playing and will be badly missed if they keep releasing stuff like this. Out yesterday, bits of the House of Love, a lot of The Cure’s Push and smatterings of every Scottish jangly guitar band you ever loved. Even @Mucker46 might enjoy this.

Enjoy the music and Grians voice not as grating as usual

Probably allowing too much of his real voice to come through, and not his put-on fake Dub accent…..

There are several types of Dublin accents. The one he uses now in interviews and singing is a hammed-up exaggeration of a working-class/inner city Dublin accent, and quite different from the relatively middle-class Skerries accent he used to have right up until mid-2018 at least.

I doubt living in London makes you sound more like Ronnie Drew.

He doesn’t sound like a working class Dub to me. I’m from Tallaght, not even a good part of Tallaght. He sounds like a generic Dub to me.

I also lived in Balbriggan and the old accent has been almost completely replaced with the generic Dublin accent now.

    His accent is fgcking bizarre.

OK, well however you want to describe it now, it used to be a lot more "middle class"/"well spoken" in conversations I had with him, and mutual friends say that it was a conscious effort to change his accent.

I like his music, he’s a good song writer, so it doesn’t bother me in the slightest. He’s the latest in a long long line of anti singers I enjoy. Mark E Smith being my absolute favourite

Cool, doesn't bother me either, just pointing out that maybe he's toned down his hammed-up, non-natural accent in this new song....

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 23,065 Mod ✭✭✭✭Brian?

I find it weird to point that out. I never hear anyone commenting when an Irish person sings in that generic mid Atlantic rock singer accent we normally hear. 99% of people affect an accent when they sing, I know I do. He just happens to sing in a Dublin one.

I have no issue with his accent, any of them, just find that for me his voice doesn't work with the music and puts me off them even though a lot of their music is good

Why would it be fake? It’s his natural voice and I’d much prefer to hear that in their material than some transatlantic twang.

I don’t understand why that matters.

    I like his music.

Spot on. It seems like a kinda pointless thing to focus on.

It’s surprising you’d pick FDC as ‘putting it on’?
    Embrace the difference!

Every act is the effin same now, find a vocal that works, that’s acceptable, then roll that out on mass, even within Ireland there are so many acts that copy or align vocal styles that are absolutely ”put on” Dermo Kennedy, Kodaline, walking on cars to name but a few!!
I was at a charity gig the other night, a young 17 year old dawned the stage, to him this “special voice” was the recipe, the secret, sing like ur slightly constipated, it was pure 2nd had embarrassment! Equivalent hurt to seeing a child go hungry!!

Email from TM just now letting campervan ticket holders know:

    • Campervan and Caravan site being moved to a new location located off the N80.
    • Site will open from Wednesday 14th at 12:00.
    • Passes being posted from 8th to 26th July

Are they taking over the Green Carpark I wonder? And is the Wednesday thing new? Thought it was Thursday normally

This is my first year bring a campervan and I bought an early entry pass (for Thursday) to avoid the traffic jams.. Seems like I didn't need to if they are open from Wednesday now anyway? Am I correct?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,875 ✭✭✭endainoz

Early entry is included in the campervan pass anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,875 ✭✭✭endainoz

Yeah all that info is in the post above. Pretty sure the Wednesday thing is new alright. N80 does sound like the green car park, it could be possible they see it as a potential traffic issue, maybe they're just trying to sell more early entry passes, which wouldn't be surprising at all hence opening it a day early. All just my own speculation of course.

Wow Wednesday! Turning into a glasto! 😂

Allowing the campers come in early would mean a huge cross over in works and build, you’d have ppl trying to get in and setup their camper with teleporter/truck/trailer traffic and the like driving around.

I’m guessing they’re taking the camper vans off the traditional site and across the road possibly the back end of the green car park accessible from the N80. Punters likely coming in the paintball entrance? Probably less of a distance, but will need to enter and exit the festival to get to their camper?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 219 ✭✭glen25

Thanks all… looks like I've an early entry pass for sale so!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,718 ✭✭✭Fatfrog

    Planning docs here.

Says early entry is now 25k, was 20k last year. I must say I’m sceptical about the 20k 😂 it feels much much more than that on Thursday, inc traffic, queues in and tent coverage!! They didn’t even scan my Thur ticket last year, just visually looked that I had them on the app.

You didn't need to buy an early entry if you had a campervan pass.
