Sky BB - No ports available

I just recently signed up for Sky BB after coming out of contract with VM. Engineer never showed up for installation, when I called Sky (lots of headache calls!!) the root cause was "no ports available", with no date available as when it would be addressed. So I cancelled. I really don't understand how this can be, all the checkers say that it is available and previous owners had it 2 years ago. Anyone have this issue and how was it resolved? Don't want to hit this issue in the future.

Assuming this is copper FTTC and there are no more free ports at the cabinet.

If this is the case you'll have to wait until someone cancels to free up a port

Copper lines are on the way out in favour of fibre so they won't be adding anymore.

Even years ago they didn't add any extra ports unless I guess there was sufficient demand in an area.

I don't think that information is public. Best to my knowledge at least with Eir the sales guy should get a warning message that cabinet is full. Availability info is being updated once a day.

But you would need to find an honest sales guy. He might silently process it anyway knowing ports are full just to get a sale out of you.

Or it's also possible that cabinet is not full but the remaining port(s) are dodgy. I remember I reported to Eir that my speed is inconsistent. They sent engineer out, he simply connected me to a different port, said other port is in a bad . I had no issues after that.
