With the EV drop affecting every brand, they re all at it. 0% deals are available across many brands now. BYD offering discounts on the atto and dolphin during this weeks sales events. Bmw the same.

You’d have to think twice about buying new nowadays.

totally agree - I was more referring to the absolute requirement that you pick up your car before June 30th, which is done purely for corporate reasons to prop the share price. No other manufacturer does that.
You’d just say “see you Jul 1, 9am, thanks”.

LOL, no other manufacturing does that!!!! I've been in manufacturing companies too long and the end of quarter push is industry standard, reduce inventory, increase Revenue and improve all key financial statistics

Yep, I've spent many a final day of a quarter chasing millions of dollars in billing… always great fun!!

and the gas thing is we only have 1 customer, and they are our parent company!!!

I think it's fairly clear the OP was talking about other car manufacturers and how they won't force you to take a car the the Q end and will allow the customer to have the new period registration.

That's the big difference between direct sales and via a distributor. Tesla haven't sold a car until it's in the hands of the new owner. Hyundai sell a car when it's bought by Hyundai Ireland, who sell it to the garage, who sell it to the consumer. Plenty of parties involved to hold the car for you until the new registration period.

My Hyundai was registered March 31th although I got it on April 10th. When I queried, saying now I have to pay arrears to the motor tax the garage covered it. The reason given was that they needed the numbers up for the quarter to keep the quota. Seemingly dealers register cars for themselves for the same reason.

I can somewhat understand people stressing about a move from year 24 to 25 but the mid-year change was always cynical, ridiculous move and was only introduced at the behest of the dealers lobby. They knew people would attach significance to it and drive mid-year sales when in reality there's very little difference in 2nd hand value, if any. Year, condition and mileage are far more important than whether it was registered before or after June.

It was scaremongering by SIMI during 2011/12 as they insisted car sales would fall through the floor if all the reg's were 13 in 2013

    this, obviously 🙄

I delayed a new car in recent years for a month, to July 1. not only was it not an issue but the garage had assumed it was the case and had it moved to that date already.

Garages register lots of cars at the end of quarters to themselves, but no garages will force you to take delivery the way that Tesla do. Its a non-negotiable for Tesla actually, when you consider they threaten to take away your car and have actively done that in the past.

Call it what you like, but they couldn’t care less about ‘you’, they just need someone anyone to take the damn car before 6pm June 30th!

Any idea of how much the model 3 might increase by after July 1st?

Thanks. Had only recently started considering buying one of these towards the end of the year. I won't be now.

The biggest difference is Tesla is all about share price while Hyundai et al have a more “sustainable” business model. No one will run scared if the sale of Tucsons dips or Hyundai don’t get their latest ULCC delivered on time, but Tesla must sustain the crazy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,184 ✭✭✭sk8board

for sure, there’ll be a big big drop in new sales if they follow through with it.

My guess is that they won’t - so much of the Tesla car story is tied to propagating the share price - and musk has repeatedly said they would sacrifice margin for volume.

80% of revenue is coming from the 3 and Y - it’s hard to see them ever consider making them uncompetitively priced.

I guess we’ll all know in a few weeks - worst case scenario they’ll rise the price, have a huge hit to EU sales, and drop it again as inventory piles up

edit: did I read somewhere in the past few weeks that Tesla sales in Germany were -60% this year or something like that - imagine if the cars were 20% more expensive

My money would be a price drop on the Y to just above the current 3 price. Then you have the EU built car to offer to 3 buyers as an alternative if they don't want to buy the higher priced three.

Literally piling all your eggs in one basket.

Probably reasonable to assume Tesla's eventual M3 tariff may be lower as they have asked for an individual examination from the EU. How much lower than 21% is anyones guess, but BYD's rate of 17.4% may be a guide.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 967 ✭✭✭JOL1

All that has been flagged is an intent by EU to impose Tarrifs on Chinese EV imports and it is open for any manufacturers to make representations before 4th July. Tesla have already made representations and are even specifically mentioned in the EU press releases so any view on the level of tarrifs that "might" be imposed are speculative rather than definitive. For anyone sitting on the fence now might be the time to press the button to remove uncertainty, a fact not lost on Tesla either in terms of pushing Q2 sales. Regardless Tesla will remain competitive relative to other manufacturers and the Model Y for Ireland has now begun tobe sourced from its Berlin factory.

Many people say the same thing. FOMO and all that. If you like them and it suits your needs, order one now. Lock in the current price if you’re serious.

Got the 2024.20.1 update a week or so ago. Haven't had much night driving since, but the lights don't actually turn. It just changes the matrix pixels towards the turning side. But any little improvement is to be welcomed.

The lane follow when in autopilot seems to require more pressure to override, perhaps I am imagining? Also the wipers (dare I say it) seemed better today when going through a thunder shower, but too early to say yet..

Bizarre looking and totally unpractical, probably won't see them on the road here, but God I'd love to drive it.

it can’t pass pedestrian safety regulations, so you’ll never see one in Europe, never mind Ireland. This is a non road legal showroom model.

Bizarrely the US has no pedestrian safety regulations

Tesla can’t sell them new in Europe but anyone else can import one regardless of pedestrian safety.

my last quote was about €1300-€1500 from wrap it design in Dublin about 2 years ago.

    Wrap it Design

    Car style

    LM Autostyling

Are some that do it but I’d expect a higher cost nowadays.
