Actually access to digital subscription products at scale like this are a significant cost. Digital content is often just as expensive as print and its not only a few cent per user or whatever

Its a bone of contention actually for libraries worldwide that publishers ramp the prices up for digital services as the amount of borrows a publisher will allow before a digital license has to be repurchased is far less the the borrows a real book would last for.

I stopped the subscription after the price increase, now I use separate browsers to get 10 free articles X 2 ( Chrome and Opera) in addition I avoid "click bait" headlines. The UK Guardian is fine for international stories.

Chrome extension above, does all of that for you in the background, can be installed on Kiwi Browser on android too as that browser allows extensions also.

Tried the New York Public library with Windscribe. And the barcode / password they give you right after registration worked directly on press reader.

And I just got their email confirmation, with a card expiry date of 2027

Didn't work for me. The card was a temporary one, valid for 30 days. It wouldn't sign in.

That's a new card I just created. And it works on press reader.

It only lasts for 48 hours.

if it's during registration, then it's probably an issue either with your vpn or the address

get an actual residential address from google.

The random one might pass their automatic registration process, but it's validated and checked afterwards by a human.

So it might just be cancelled. Or not get a 3 years card like the one I got, but instead a 30 days one
