PressReader sorted, it was necessary to enter library card no. twice, and press login twice.

Sorry to dig up an old thread - I've been using Libby / Rbdigital for years for magazines when I am travelling but recently it has stopped working.

The app tells me that it is not a valid library card, and the same when I logged in to my library's website. I can create a new card online but it is still telling me in the Libby app that it isn't a valid card.

Anything that I can do & does this still work?

Your library card may have expired. You can renew it online

Tried to login to PressReader this morning with my Library Card, but kept failing, anyone else having this issue, have Irish libraries stopped supporting this?

Had an email about this, think it's just moved...

From May 1st, the Libby and PressReader apps will no longer be available through the library, but don’t worry, BorrowBox will have you covered instead.

If you’re already a BorrowBox user, you’ll see a new ePress section in the app, and that’s where you’ll find magazines and newspapers.

(Haven't tried it though, so can't vouch for it)

Fingal left on the 1st of May.
Dublin also have a notice saying they are leaving too.

Borrowbox is a completely insufficient compared to Pressreader. Hopefully a bit of backlash will get it restored.

I happened to log in to the Press Reader app at the weekend with library login and all was fine. Just checked again and still working.

At a glance, Irish independent, Sunday independent and the economist do seem to be on Borrow box

It's a free service and probably cheaper for borrowbox to be on board, you can backlash all you want the best you're going to get is a refund

BorrowBox Newspaper selection is not near as good as PressReader, a lot of the international papers now gone. Magazine is pretty good, but still not as comprehensive as PressReader

What library are you with? Those titles are not in Kildare Libraries offering

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58 ✭✭joejoew

Dublin library. Working ok on android app, but not on the laptop actually.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 250 ✭✭Setanter

Because the app has up to 28 days needs to time out

I couldn't find Irish independent or Sunday independent on borrow box....so I'm still using Press Reader

    Hi,

I am getting a message, 'invalid barcode or passcode' message when I try to log into Pressreader.

Have certain libraries got rid of the service?

    Thanks,

    D

I have occasion to visit the Library in Athlone today on this matter and they informed me it was discontinued.
My account is with Longford Library and it worked this morning without issue.
PressReader was a great service for sure

It will work until your 30 days expires

Is borrow box free? Does it have the Irish newspapers?

Its free....but my version of borrow box has some daily papers(star, mirror, mail) and some local papers.....but no Irish or Sunday independent

I know it's all down to personal preference but for me Borrow Box is an absolute dire shadow of PressReader.

I got confirmation from Meath Library service today that the Press Reader service has been discontinued.

    Disappointing….

Obviously a national change…notice on the website here in Donegal stating
P‌ressReader will no longer be available from May 1st 2024

    9.1kWp (5.6E/3.5W)

Mind you, I tended to use Libby more (magazines), so as long as it keeps working I’ll be happy enough.

Both in terms of usability and content. proper low cost solution. pretty sure it wont matter but will email Fingal county libraries to complain

Press Reader is still working ok with Cork City library, fingers crossed it doesn't die off there as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 260 ✭✭Layne

Maybe I'm missing something but it seems Borrowbox is only available via the app, i.e. cannot read on a Windows desktop PC??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,893 ✭✭✭Apogee

You can access it on web if you put the branch/county of your library into the URL county.borrowbox.com e.g.

    https://corkcity.borrowbox.com/

1st day using Borrow Box, for papers at least it's a much inferior option to Press Reader.

What small amount of money will they save by axing this service?
