Now, now that is so unfair she is very sick and she could not possibly be able to defend herself on a public site that allows anyone to sign up to it, and its very unfair because where else could she defend herself, I mean its not like she was the head of the national broadcaster and didn't get to defend her actions while she was there and its not like she's been invited to defend herself in public forums such as the Oireachtas Committees.

No she couldn't possibly be on a site that's, at this point, largely dead in the water and hasn't been significant since 2009.

The poor crayture. God love her.

Jennifer Zamparelli is leaving 2FM. That's four high profile presenters gone.

Tubridy will be remembered more for the payments scandal and the changes it forced on RTE rather than his broadcasting career. It seems a very different organisation today to the one it was a year ago.

The producers of Dancing with the Canteen must be sweating it. They'll have no one to rope in soon.

Ironically he's the one who has fared the worst from it all The other four will manage just fine in a post-RTE world.

I'm not sure there's a huge market for The two Johnnie's. Whatever happened to the "Hardy Bucks"?

He's an RTE lifer. The others have lives outside of RTE.

The 2 Johnnies are doing plenty outside of their RTE jobs to be fair. Their company is raking it in according to financials released a few months ago.

They're doing an event in St Annes Park in Dublin … seems like they have a paying market of some sort.

I read somewhere that the two Johnnies wanted time off for an American tour but couldn't get it. So they decided to leave.

No idea if that's true, I know very little about them, tbh.

I was following the lads for years before, their first youtube hit was 7 ago.

I know that if you're in the Dublin bubble they'd easily fly under the radar, but they had a national audience before 2fm.

Viper spent some time with a Russian propaganda mill, now irregularly livestreams to a small crowd of very strange people. Also did a one man reenactment of a Pat Kenny/FrankMcCourt/Gerry Hannan interview on an abandoned train track.

Durkin mostly posts his very strong policial opinions on twitter.

French Toast and Buzz do stuff as "Three Bucks left" with a lad who briefly appeared in one episode. They had some drama over a Traveler joke.

2fm could do with moving away from personality based programming and it's showing in their market share. I don't believe The 2 Johnnies presenting afternoon drive, Jennifer Zamparelli on mornings and others was/is really resonating with or attracting a healthy audience figure. They will just continue to replace presenters and the core station sound which I believe is the root cause of a lot of their woes will not be addressed. Not even bringing back Tubridy can help them. 🙂

Not any more. He got early release for bad behaviour.

If tubs does come back he'll find himself competing with a newly enlarged pool of talent.

    All thanks to himself. Lol

    Zamparellu: gone

    Doireann Garrihy: gone

    Johnny #1: gone

    Johnny #2: gone

    D'Arcy: new 4 year 250K p.a. contract

Mary Morrisey: Come to the "Marty Party" in sunny Benalmadena

    What's the plan, Kevin?

Mortified? He should be kissing the feet of whoever he got to sign off on that contract. I see he allegedly does not have an agent, he must use all his smarts on negotiating instead of learning how to operate a radio desk.

Pretty sure it’s his wife (Jenny?) who is the brains behind the operation -

When you put it like that, those leavers were actually great value.

Tubridy's last podcast has been up for 4 days. It has had 598 views on Youtube. Eamon Dunphy's podcast company has posted profits of approximately 109K Euro for 2023.

    https://www.independent.ie/business/irish/eamon-dunphys-podcast-firm-makes-profit-of-almost-109000/a938994315.html

Podcasts, according to the article, make money from advertising and subscriptions. Dunphy's company produces up to eight podcasts a week.

The Cooper and Yates "Paths To Power" podcast has been up for 15 hours and has had 2.8K views. Popular podcasts can obviously bring in the money. Tubridy's does not seem to be getting the same amount of traffic. His podcast is looking simply like an advertising promotion for Eason that is based on Tubridy's fame and erudition. Perhaps a podcast about Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior would be better for Tubridy?

    Everything he tries is failing.

He is being found out. The career is dying. He is yesterday's man, unless some idiot like KB offers him a highly paid job back at rte.

If he isn’t bringing in the Moolah anymore will Don Kelly give him the heave ho?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭jmcc

He's probably still bringing in some money but it is not the same amount as when he was on the LLS and RTE radio. He has also been taken out of his natural environment for celebrity appearances (Dublin). London is far more competitive in that respect and they have their own celebrities there. Even with the Q102 etc syndication on local radio in Ireland, his value to advertisers is still based on his recognition from RTE and the LLS. The problem is that it has been overtaken by the 150K payments scandal. The Eason podcast might have worked better before the RTE payments scandal. Perhaps Tubridy and NKM still hope for a return to Irish national broadcasting but the longer he stays off Irish national radio, the less likely that is to happen.

Not to derail the thread but you'd wonder how JenZam can look at how Tubs is getting on in the cold, cold world beyond RTE and think that she will continue to have a comfortable lifestyle? Without the lustre of 'she works in RTE, you know…'?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭jmcc

She's a different generation to Tubridy and I think that she already has podcasting experience.

He will ideally want to come back to RTE sooner rather than later. There seems to be a bit of push on atm with people cheerleading for Tubs. The problem is the barter account jiggerypokery is still fresh in everyone minds, if KB took him back now there would be a backlash against RTE.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,719 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Yeah it would be hard to see how he could return to rte any time soon.

The anger with rte is still raw among the public. If KB decided to bring him back, there would be hell to pay on social media. His position would beuntenable.

    Can't see it happening.

Until the licence fee is replaced by something compulsory and inescapable, he has zero chance of coming back.

He's a mediocre presenter who would struggle to keep a show on a Dublin station on his own skills, and thats becoming ever more apparent
