Are the two zones completely independent? That is, you can run the heating without running the HW at the same time?

Did you ever find anyone to do this?

Not yet but I was playing around with ChatGBT and it suggested some solutions which Id love to see if possible with a REC. They sound quite doable.

We have an ideal vogue set-up with weather compensation but not OpenTherm or hot water priority.

I had read in the manual about separate temperatures for hot water and heating being available only if the weather compensation sensor was attached so I asked the plumber to include it in the install. I think it was a new one for him. This was 10+ years ago.

As it's not a combi boiler the lack of hot water priority isn't a huge issue. I just need to make sure the thermostat has no target temperature set for when the hot water is timed to come on, which is only once a day as we don't use much hot water. It can be a bit trickier finding a slot for a boost with a full house.

Initially I didn't really use the weather compensation correctly and mostly just relied on the max heating zone temperature control. After some adjustments in recent years I think I have it well set-up now. The house feels comfortable all day and the thermostat target can be lower because it doesn't feel cold once the radiator is putting out some heat.

You can also tell what the temperature is like outside by touching the radiator.

So when the out sensor slope was at 1.6, in cold weather the temperature would overshoot the thermostat and then by the time the heating kicked back in the rooms were starting to feel cold. In slightly warmer temperatures the radiator output was a bit low and the thermostat struggled to reach temperature.

Now I have the slope at 1.3 and the room temperature (I think that's what it's called) at 22. The house temperature is a lot more stable now.
