according to one of the papers today, Jennifer Z has been off-air since Easter and RTE are refusing to say if she'll be back so it looks like Doireann's departure is indeed to do with a bigger schedule reshuffle at 2fm

    This is my thinking.

Doireann decided to go because she didn't get the amount she demanded or she may be in the 10 earners for 2024 and decided that the hassle of being in the top ten wasn't worth it considering her other income. Either way she and her agents made that decision.

Jenny Z is taking a break in 2024 because she has a number of commercial commitments that she wants to finish before signing a contract with RTÉ, this also allows her to be outside the top 10 for 2024 and the hassle that it brings.

Both would also have taken a fee for competing their current contracts, which would add to their normal earning in the year and RTÉ possible refused to back date these payments over the last 3 years as they'd done before.

As I have said before there are high earners in RTÉ who have dodged the top 10 list in certain years because RTÉ spread their contract exit payment over the previous 3 years (something they can't do now because they have committed to releasing the payment every year) and those that have worked on independent productions.

And with the exit of Tubs there could be at least 3 new entries to 2024 higher earners, that €150k that Mr. Callan got might be under some of the might be's at RTÉ e.g. Marty Whelan, Jenny Z, The 2 Johnnies and so on.

In reality neither have much of a leg to stand on, Doireann can be replace on The Breakfast Show, while Jenny Greene could easily get back to Mid-mornings without the need of a co-host, this is unlikely to damage 2FM's audience.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

Why would you ask Wayne Rooney about his mastermind subject?

fair play to Doireann for quitting. Wasn’t her that fecked up the organisation. JZ I suspect will be the next to go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,619 ✭✭✭RoTelly

She's supposed to be media savvy. The former host of the Breakfast show is acting as if he's the biggest thick going.

Either they are both thick or they were happy as Larry on the pig's back. I am guessing the latter.

Obviously the mismanagement of RTÉ is not their fault but can you honestly say that they did not notice what was going on in the organisation?

She was gifted 2 pilots on RTÉ one of which resulted in the Full Irish Hidden Camera Show, did no one ever question either pilot?

    I've noticed Aifric O'Connell hasn't been on 2FM for a while.

So she could still present DWTS as she contracted by Shinawhil, I wonder how much influance RTÉ have on the presenters of their TV shows? Interesting how they seem to have had 2fm presenters on that show, and when the money dried up how Amanda Bryam was replaced by Jenny Z. And as Jenny Z started presensting DWTS she took the place of her co-host in the mid-morning slot on 2FM.

Could it be that Westlifer was on more than 175k from the national broadcaster as it hide behind the Indo Producer?

The fact that Carl and Donncha are ribbing her every day calling her 'Judas' makes me think she has left of her own accord.

I'd imagine the DWTS gig is a plum job, one that's good for maintaining a profile. Plus, the show is such a juggernaut, I'm not sure the presenters necessarily have to be all that skilled for it to work. My completely uninformed take is that RTE know they could drop anybody into that role, so why not deploy one of the many 'staffers' (or long-term casuals, or whatever) already floating around the campus at Montrose, someone who will be happy with the raised profile and won't take the pish on product endorsements.

God a month of that ribbing, she might stay in the end!

It's interesting how RTE have completely moved the goalposts with 2fm, 10 years ago, their whole logic behind hiring Dan Healy (the first ever external head of the station) was that as a sales man he'd be able to return it to self sufficiency, when his schedules turned out to be massive flops and 2fm ended up needing marginally more licence fee money then Lyric FM, the goalposts were moved to 2fm is our youth service, the youth deserve to have a publicly funded service too.

Or a mid-morning magazine show hosted by a 45yo, you wouldn't hear such a schedule on BBC R one

We don't have a radio 2, 2fm were meant to move into the 20-45 demo rather then youth, I don't know what the story is now. Youth don't want to listen to presenters the same age as their parents in the same way middle aged don't want to teenagers. Music based content is in a difficult place with youtube, spotify etc, and with 2fm it's hard to know who their aiming at, as someone in my 30s I'd find it hard to listen to any of it.

she is a bit more present than that, like the straight guy to their routine, and she fills in fully when they're off which as is said above makes the whole afternoon slot inconsistent. I'd guess she is on staff and therefore a place must be found for her.

Didn't know that JZ had been off, odd that you can be off for over a month and not a word from the station.

    The 45th birthday of 2FM

I doubt she will play Alice Cooper "Schools out" as her final song (like Ian Dempsey did in June 1998)

His anger is palpable, Kevin Bakhurst should rein him in.
