Taking up angling - advice

    Is this the right forum for a complete newbie? I'm looking for basic starter advice for myself and my two boys. It's always something I've wanted to do.

    However I'm not sure a forum under sports is the right place to ask. Might be the wrong jumping off point. Is there a more informal hobbyist forum?

    Live near the sea so obviously onshore fishing is the closest but have also loved the idea of river and lake fishing
