Taking up angling - advice

Is this the right forum for a complete newbie? I'm looking for basic starter advice for myself and my two boys. It's always something I've wanted to do. However I'm not sure a forum under sports is the right place to ask. Might be the wrong jumping off point. Is there a more informal hobbyist forum? Live near the sea so…

Live near the sea so obviously onshore fishing is the closest but have also loved the idea of river and lake fishing

Frmo personal exeperience as a young lad, I loved going with my uncles out on a hired boat, so would highly recommend trying something like https://www.galwaybayfishing.com/ . Though I then went on to prefer a calm day alone by the a nice lake watching and waiting my float
