    From Extra.IE

RTÉ could not produce invoices for €400,000 of transactions dating from a period when key executives who refused to co-operate with a probe into its controversial ‘barter account’ were in charge at the station.

And invoices relating to a Rugby World Cup junket – first highlighted by the Irish Mail on Sunday in 2019 – are among the missing financial documents forensic auditors were unable to scrutinise as part of their investigation.

Not many signs of cutbacks or salary reductions in the ad to replace the retiring Eileen Magnier as north west correspondent. And clearly a closed shop:

The appointment will be for two years initially on a fixed term full-time basis, renewable once for a maximum of three additional years. The salary scale is €70,070 to €95,521 per annum.

This vacancy is open to internal candidates only.

This perfectly explains Dee Forbe’s absolute unwillingness to speak to anyone.

    Clear criminal behaviour.

Will we see anything done about it ?

I am surprised AGS and Revenue have not got involved yet tbh

Catherine Moron and Kevin Backarse are useless

Because it has not been criminal yet. This latest revelation will need an accusation of misappropriation of funds. No invoicing makes that possible as there is no proof either way. Did someone pocket the €400k. It needs investigation. Then the Gardai can step in. But who is going to make the accusation ?

Agter the first disaster of a meeting at the committee I think RTE went into panic mode, I watched some of that meeting and it was clear RTE expected to swan in, answer a few questions and walk out with some tax payers money

The rugby WC event looks like a dodgy event with a couple of “big” investors so to hazard a guess the 400k could cause issues for others so just get rid of evidence so external people are not pulled into it external sponsors

the claims from the commercial lady at the time of what a successful job she done is getting worse and worse by the day as it would look like they spent more then they brought in, so a sponsor gives 400k to Rte and gets back 600k worth of freebies

Not criminal giving friends who " retire" far bigger lumpsum packages than they are entitled to, fraudulent books hiding payments,,, surely an investigation was warranted prior to the latest revelation.

Should Kevin not be on the phone with Dee, asking did she perhaps have these invoices in her purse by mistake when she left?

Or maybe she might know who has them or where they are?

If not, then he himself should be calling in revenue or the Garda Fraud , If he as the Director suspects employees (Current/Past) were involved in criminal activity, it's it his job to report it?

AGS said they can't investigate unless a claim of fraud is made (proactive policing my arse), claim was made, AGS did nothing

As can be seen in the Huw Edwards scandal, behaviour that is inappropriate or unethical isn't always illegal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 917 ✭✭✭DrZeuss

But surely the redundancy payments for positions not made redundant should be enough for an investigation at least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,636 ✭✭✭fplfan12345

So could a member of the public make the accusation seeing as it was public money ?

How would one go about this ?

Especially as RTE are paying the extra tax owed, which in itself is a taxable benefit in kind. So we have an unusual situation where more tax has to be paid on the tax. Resulting in the Gross cost of the Exit Package in creasing substantially from the original figures provided.

I read a proposal to send immigrants from the city to the Montrose campus and car parks as it has facilities and much room. Might solve the illegal encampments?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,876 ✭✭✭RoTelly

Well it would save them having to go into the City to report the news and the Fair City outdoor set will be free this summer, and in August RTÉ is pretty much deserted.

Then each tent can have a TV and RTÉ can charge them 160 euro.

Only thing Emma O'Kelly has highlighted the last year is the complete lack of work she does.

    Operation Transformation is ending

RTÉ have said that the decision to bring the show to its conclusion came after the usual editorial review, which takes place at the end of each season to "ensure the audience is being best served and to refresh and renew its slate of programming."

RTÉ will announce a new series for January 2025 later in the year.

The decision on Operation Transformation was communicated some weeks ago to those involved including the experts and stakeholders.

Over the course of the series there have been dozens of leaders from all over Ireland paving the way for thousands of viewers at home to follow their lead and their plans.

Not that I ever regarded OT as the best TV can offer it was very popular but just another example of cutting content to maintain paying wages to sub standard presenters

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,276 ✭✭✭jackofalltrades

Classic RTE strategy. Punish the viewing public in the hope they kick up a fuss and politicians think twice about cutting their funding again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,876 ✭✭✭RoTelly

Not to defend RTÉ, but the series is on series 17, they are looking for a new programme that will replace OT, I am guessing they will go for something similar.

The thing about ot is that in most communities around the country there's walks organized to coincide with the show, helping to keep viewing figures up,, they are going to lose that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,876 ✭✭✭RoTelly

I imagine they are going to try something similar TBH. I some how doubt that they are letting go of the series fully. I imagine they will probably integrate it even more into Ray D'Arcy's fun runs. IMO RTÉ failed to produce a similar show in the last 2 years that may have replaced OT. But I imagine a new lifestyle type weight positive programme come Jan next year.

RTE programming is geared towards the 13% of viewership that never change channels from RTE One / Radio One.

I heard they are going to double-up on production of "Reeling in the Years".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,876 ✭✭✭RoTelly

You know …. if this is the case … you can probable search google to find Dee Forbes extoling the virtues of Reeling in the Years and the introduction of The Way We Were and Keys To My Life.

    Their new show

"Pop culture: that's barely even pop culture in Ireland that might have been nostalgic in the 2000s… well possibly the 1990s and even then we weren't impressed"

RTÉ delve yet again into their archive with this new series starting with a look at that 1990s archive show "Raiders of the Lost Archive", in the second episode producers of "Reeling in the Year" go through the process of developing the epic show over the last 25 years as the decades role on.

A five part series will also see interviews with Pat Shortt as he looks back on his "On d'Telly" series, while a host of celebrities take a look back on their interviews on Keys to My Life.

Mike Murphy then looks back at iconic nostalgic series such as "Gaybo Laugh's Back", "Reeling in the Years" and "The Best of Today with Maura and Dathi" with a few interruptions from his show "The Live Mike". You'll never believe how trendy Fr Ted was back in the early 1980s.

Guest presenters include Fiona Looney, Fintan O'Toole, Brendan O'Connor and Katherine Lynch.
