Engagement presents - best one you’ve seen or received

First of all, do people give engagement presents these days? I would like to get something for a good friend and her partner - I prefer to spend more on the wedding present but am happy to get a small engagement present too. It’s hard to know what to get that I can pick up asap (no time to order online).
So just wondering if anybody here got a cool present that didn’t cost the earth when they got engaged? There is a party.

I never received or expected an engagement present to be honest. Now some friends would have bought a few drinks or paid for a celebratory meal or something like that but nothing wrapped in a bow.

A meal voucher or a bottle of good champagne?

It was different years ago when you could buy something for the 'bottom drawer' but couples tend to have their home set up before getting engaged now so the gift is just an acknowledgement of the occasion.

I was thinking about the champagne alright, but I’m not sure if he drinks it too and I want it to be something they both enjoy. Might do the meal voucher though I’d prefer something different because I’ll be getting a voucher for the wedding present.

Give money for the wedding so they can spend it where they like, it's not of unheard of for some couples to rely on it to pay the hotel!

Oh yes deffo money or voucher for wedding. But I’m stuck on a present for the engagement, don’t feel money or voucher is warranted.

They are not having a big wedding so there’s no issue on the hotel etc.

I got feedback that champagne is not appreciated because they'll already get loads of that

Maybe those frames they make on etsy that say the date of the engagement, so it's more personal and cheaper

Thanks. I don’t have time to order anything but agree the champagne isn’t right. Personally I love champagne but a lot of people don’t. I’m just going to browse shops I think.

I got a "friend" and his fiancee a very nice engagement present. He ghosted me after the wedding. so I shouldn't have bothered.

We got the usual vouchers and wine OP but one friend gave us a small sterling photo frame with our photo. We still have the frame. Not everyones taste I know but it always reminds me of that friend.

Cook, thanks for that. I think people are less likely to give those as they are seen as old fashioned especially as people don’t print as many photos these days sadly, which would make it more unique.

Surely the Big Diamond Ring 💍…….oh and the promise of undying love😍 (Cant forget that), is the best present you receive, for the bride in waiting….

And F-All for the Groom….. of course🤗🤪…except for the love bit again…I suppose🙂

When we got enagaged we got so much champagne and prosecco we started re gifting it. Not we werent appreciative but neither are drinkers of it so we had more then we'd ever need.

I did get a beautiful frame from someone with our engagement dates and a little quote. A friend of mine got gifted a lovely wooden keepsake box for keeping bits of wedding planning memories.
