if its android tv or fire tv os you can download an android app - if not you would have to add a dns through your modem. thats why a firestick or android device is good as you can use a wider range of apps and services that are not most tvs and apps are updated more often

you might still need a vpn pn a new modem , but if you have a strong enough signal and a paid vpn . you can watch everything without an issue . i watch a lot of stuff using vpns for i player or some usa apps

Fyi for anyone thinking about getting a 4k Chromecast.

    https://9to5google.com/2024/04/22/new-4k-chromecast-google-tv/

We’re now finally getting that Chromecast with Google TV 4K replacement. The model from 2020 has a 1.9 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 (Amlogic S905X3) with 2 GB of RAM, and 8 GB of storage. The latter spec has been a sticking point, while performance can only be described as fine.

What we’re getting this year will surely be an upgrade, but do keep in mind the price point Google is trying to hit with its streaming dongles. One possibility for the chip to be used is the Amlogic S905X5 announced last September. It’s two generations newer than the chip on the current 4K Chromecast, with a more efficient 6 nm process (from 12 nm) and AV1 support.

I contacted Xiaomi. They have no plans for another 4k stick. Chromecast upgrade could be a great and cheap device for IPTV to avoid any firestick lockdown.

A mate had trouble playing IPTV on a Sky Glass TV. Wouldn't work at all after many months of it being fine.

Using a VPN sorted it though.

On a similar note, about 10 years ago I had VDSL with Vodafone and YouTube constantly buffered. (This was the fad at the time, long before players/iptv). VF claimed no issues but I tried a few modems etc but it was clear that VF didn't want ppl spending all day using up bandwidth on YouTube.

When we got it first it was the high 50s but we had fierce trouble with speeds dropping and bad buffering on everything from YouTube to Kodi streams. When the engineer came out he said the lines couldn't take the speeds and that's why it was so unstable. He dropped it to a max of 50mbps so we were getting 40+ and still the same issues, he came back and set it to 40mpbs and we haven't really had any issues since bar a few dodgy modems. Like I said tho, a pretty stable 37mbps over WiFi and we have IPTV, Fortnite and either YouTube or netflix going at the same time and it works fine. If I got upgraded to siro 500mbps I dont think we'd notice the difference.

the difference is the fibre connection again the old copper lines to the house and around that are a lot more unstable . your upload speed would be a lot better and and you would have a lot more bandwith , that can run more at once with fhd and 4k video and aaa games more bandwith will be needed going forward

Lots of a talk about shutdowns coming in May. Could be interesting times ahead, hopefully not though.

Football is over in may, once it's back up for August I won't mind too much

😲 ah now! dont be posting that without a link 😆

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,247 ✭✭✭SteM

Can't post a link, it's from stuff posted on discord groups. Be interesting to see what happens.

What's the jist of it? There's always talk of shutdowns/better blocking but it's really more likely your supplier or their supplier will get caught and you'll be looking for a new one.

Meh, always ways around everything and you have posted no context whatsoever on why IPTV hosted in foreign countries will be clamped down on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,247 ✭✭✭SteM

Just said I'll be interested to see what happens. Didn't say anything about your IPTV at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 511 ✭✭✭Murt2024

No worries but what you posted has the same context as saying tomorrow is Monday.

What discord groups? Doesn't sound realistic.

Even if they could clampdown, it wouldn't happen in May

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,508 ✭✭✭batistuta9

Jesus give us something. What's supposed to be happening, what are they going to do different?

'Dodgy box' clampdowns are really just a PR exercise. The people who are serious about getting low-cost access to SKY and so on will continue to do so.

I don't think I'm talking out of school to say that torrents exist to procure all the boxset stuff you want to watch, and there are plenty of sites (not naming any names) that have links to live sports streams. The most badly affected people would be those without the will or knowhow to spend an hour or two on a weekend looking up what I've just described.

My firestick keeps buffering when watching live matches, I have very fast fiber broadband but a fella told me its probably too fast and that's why it's unstable, can anyone verify this is true or what could I do? I also don't have a VPN, would getting one help sort the buffering or have I just got a poor supplier

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 511 ✭✭✭Murt2024

The two fast part is absolute bull **** - VPN may help but if its a **** supplier its a **** supplier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,370 ✭✭✭jj880

This is true. I used to do it. Still do sometimes if I cant find something. However I found paying 1.50 per week suited me better for instant access compared to the time it took me to round up reliable feeds for the live stuff. Maybe I wasn't looking in the right places 😆.

its faster than you need , but thats not going to make it stop . provider might be an issue but streams can slow during games as people are out there trying to block them . or the server your using might be overloaded. try another stream if one is stopping

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,869 ✭✭✭Brief_Lives

does it ever slow down when you are watching a movie or tv show?

There's a group of know-it-alls going around rubbishing the idea that IPTV will ever be clamped down on and that they'll be free to pay foreign criminal enterprises to let them stream any channel they want for a small fee forever. This is not realistic and they're likely going to be in for a rude awakening. It won't be like mp3s where the music industry tried to stop them but gave up, being able to reliably stream live video long-term is going to be a lot more complicated.

As with everything it all comes down to economics and politics. If the number of active sky subscribers falls under a certain threshhold, things are going to start happening. There's been a long history of pirate tv and they always clamp down or change things once they start losing too much money.

Certainly a long history of the pirates always finding new way.

Know-it-alls? I think this is a case of the pot calling the kettle black

"being able to reliably stream live video long-term is going to be a lot more complicated"

Why do you say this? It's getting easier no? Sky are working to a stream only model. Satellite expected to be be done by 2030. Sky charging by the day/month/year for access. Payment models are getting easier and quicker.

TV is going to be more online and there's going to be even more people capturing that in places like Russia, the middle East and beyond our laws and selling it to resellers for distribution.
