As long as they don't tell them that the boy can become a girl and girl become a boy...

But junior infants is prob a bit soon for any such talk.

The SPHE Curriculum has been in use since 1999.

The Infant curriculum states that

"The child should be enabled to …name parts of the male and female body, using appropriate anatomical terms"

Some parents are morons and don't teach their kids stuff like this.

You should home school your kids if you think learning parts of the body is "shocking stuff".

I never said you questioned the teaching practice elsewhere.

Using the correct terms is important for the children and many parents don't teach same. It is also on the curriculum and needs to be taught. I hope you didn't make a fuss in front of your child as this gives her the wrong idea and promotes the shame that my generation was subjected to. Maybe you should question why your son's class wasn't taught this particular lesson.

The senior infant's teacher in my local school is visibly pregnant at the moment and the children, especially the girls, are interested in her progress, begging to see her scans. So far she has "forgotten" to show them, perhaps to avoid parent's concerns.

Parents are more than capable of providing instruction on basic arithmetic, basic English, basic reading and writing at home. Should we shut down all these lessons too?

No its not.

There's plenty on the curriculum that could be taught at home but is still done in school. So if that's your reasoning for being upset about kids being taught the correct term for their genitals then you'll need to explain why you don't have an issue with kids learning to count in school, or read, or PE etc.

I teach chess to young kids and I refer to the black and white pieces.

In one class a child told me that I could not refer to the pieces as black.
