Labour were on the attack about FF and SF's treatment of the Unions. I am sure Emma O'Kelly was of the same view? Where was she 7 years ago, or even 2 years ago? Her boss was flying off to NYC every 3 or so month did she ever think to ask why?

I got my local TD to contact RTE over the fact that 60 days work was done on the summerhill transmitter in mid 2021 only for it to get blown up less than 2 years later. They replied that the work in 21 cost 350k but by shutting down the transmitter on April 18th 23, excess of 350k was saved in electricity usage by December 31 23 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

    @Radio Atlantic @Karppi

TBF RTÉ are saving money on the exit of Rory Coveney, I mean they split up the roles held by Mulooly and Jennings … and Jennings is still on the pay role !

Will Forbes get another job in Ireland or is it retirement for her? Maybe a seat on some board or other.

Surely she is not well enough for any employment.

The echo chamber podcast with Keith Walsh is well worth a listen.

Is the full version covering Dee available, or is it still behind a Patreon paywall?

    1. Keith says we have the worst business people running RTÉ (Why did he not speak up sooner he was with them on a good wage, he'd nothing to really loose as he says he's disposable, was he a full time employee at Communicorp, is this standard practice across broadcasting?)
    2. "I would have been a eejit not to take that offer to stay with my friend!"
    3. They head hunt you… you had a friend in RTÉ (Dan Healy)
    4. 12 amounts per year (a monthly invoice, see my previous "hypothetical" post)
    5. "You were offered an annual amount which was then split into 12 equal payments"
    6. Contract 1 - 2 years, Contract 2 - 3 years, out of contract, Contract 4 - 1 year 6 months, Contract 4 - 4 months
    7. He goes on to say that he has to be in everyday for work and largely has office hour work.
    8. Producer basically says you at the top of your game as a National broadcaster, they really aren't going to baby you. Seriously I do goal setting in work and peer review - load of bullshit really - I do my job well and even with all of the bullshit I get little recognition
    9. He got TV documentaries on the back of Breakfast Republic
    10. He got to the end of 7 years and didn't see the bags of 2fm they were making? but now he distrusts them completely
    11. He seems to have forgotten that he worked weekends on 2FM for 1 - 2 years after he left the breakfast show, he mentions this later on, was he still getting the same kind of money along with sitting in for Radio1 hosts?
    12. Ah! He has an agent !
    13. He had no one looking after him, no union, just his agent!
    14. 4 months given to him on various show (he says lyric but means gold)
    15. He leaves on his own accord.
    16. What did he miss out on, 50% going to the tax man - he's got a bad accountant and a bad agent TBH, though when your getting 120k a year, perhaps 50% is going to the tax man.
    17. There were really good contracts and one of those contracts was the one you were on!
    18. He got to talk to Dee ! Oh should I pay to hear what Dee had to say for herself? Bizzare the DG would talk to him, not sure how he would have got that interview with her, she was really an odd ball DG.

Sorry Keith, while RTÉ were wrong to have to on contracts, I imagine that you had good holidays and a good job, you should complain but do I have sympathy for you? to some extent and then not much.

I'd say she will eventually move back to London when all this blows over, if she want to return to work, she possibly has no need to work again with pensions and properties she has.

It's a bit of a catch 22 for her. If she starts working here again it proves she must be well enough to come in and answer questions. Plus most of her business connections and cronies would likely be here in Ireland.

TBH once the government / legislators agree on the way to fund RTÉ almost all of this blows over. The only real issue that they think they will be dealing with is that of the bogus employment, and honestly the government will bail them out on that.

I have said it before RTÉ/The Media/Politicians/academics honestly believe that the main issue with RTÉ is the way is funded and government continually kicking this issue down the road. The rest of it can be swept under the carpet and once that is done, Dee can find a new job and Jimbo can return to work.

Now stop telling RTÉ that "The Full Irish Hidden Camera Show" is pure shite.

In conclusion, regardless of the two report: -

The Media Minister said the reports she had commissioned were due very soon and she went through the two options available on the future funding: Dropping the licence to replace it with exchequer funding or keeping the licence in a different shape that collects more money.

So I just post this here

    https://www.thesun.ie/tv/12856265/rte-fair-city-shakeup-missing-schedule-eurovision-tuesday/

Nothing to do with the schedule but to do with the "actress" from Fair City (she plays a main role)

Sorcha said: "I know I am going to be off in July and August. We are still filming four episodes a week, they are just holding one back.

"Even though we are not working, Fair City will still be on the telly and that is great for the viewers."

And the Irish actress is no stranger to the inconsistent schedule in the world of acting as she added: "Before, it could have been February before I knew what I was doing in June.

"It works well for us actors because we know we are off and we can properly go looking for work."

Sorcha continued: "I might work 12 weeks out of 52 this year and I might do 30 weeks out of 52 next year. It could be 10 weeks the following year. That is the nature of the business and that is the way it has always been.

The Irish actress revealed that the time off during the summer will allow her some freedom away from her current contract with Fair City.

She said: "We get offered contract weeks every year and some years are higher than others. For me, having two months off means I go for work and I won’t let anyone down if I get an audition and have to go into Fair City instead.

"There is a great freedom in that, you are not letting Fair City down and you are not letting anybody else down."

There is no change here for Ms Furlong, or any of the main characters, every year (potential as we have seen a 3 or 4 year contract) is sent to the main actors and they know straight off they they have 30 weeks on the soap, and it sound from Reading Mr. Tormey's and Mr. McMahon's problems that this is their normal contract for the series. And they get a substantial payment for their 30 weeks with 12 weeks off.

I don't think they believe they are kicking the can down the road BTH.

I think they think that by solving the funding issue they have solved all of the issues at RTÉ and the minister can then go and make a speech about sport or culture or organise a gathering or open some festival and largely ignore all of the cultural institutions under her portfolio until they are opening a new festival, which she can then step into open.

Well that fcukkery proves that RTE have absolutely no intention of reforming the station.

    If it’s true?

You don't want to Party with Marty ? You know he also bring along Lottie Ryan and The 2 Johnnies! Oh and the cruise is using one of the Garrihy boats… and you will be on 2FM for the duration of your holiday.

    Jaysus!

Now here’s the thing, if I was Kevin Bakhurst I would call Marty in and say

Martin, you have a job in RTE, well paid and good conditions.

If you want to whore your position here, fine, but rest assured when your contract ends I will ask you

to make a decision……do you want to stay in RTE or do you want to ‘cut the umbilical cord’ and try to

promote this fcukkery off your own bat?

Uhmmmm …..that might soften Marty’s cough..

Ro… I have it on good authority that Centre Parcs is an excellent venue to go to with kids

However to get Zapperllie to promote it ,like shown, is a disaster.

Who is the idiot who signed off on this false, contrived, fake crock of shït that vid undoubtedly is.

Collect your walking papers pal…… epic fail.

Does the article not imply that a conversation was had, and marty was told "ah youre grand , plow on!"? So fcuk all has changed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,970 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Isn’t that what my post is suggesting ?

Tell me what you don’t seem to understand about the post?

I’ll explain….not trying to be smart.

Not gonna lie, I was in the pub when I read/responded. I now see the "If I was…."

    Can't even use this:

This kind of crud really, really irritates me. Are there no editors in RTE?

    https://www.rte.ie/culture/2024/0430/1446507-original-riverdancer-tells-all-30-years-on-from-eurovision/

Everyone remembers the night they saw
    Riverdance. Thank you Niamh Kavanagh!

It wasn't Niamh Kavanagh in 1994- it was 'Rock and Roll Kids' by Charlie McGettigan and Paul Harrington.

I know it's a minor niggle, but if the opening sentence can't get the event's right, the rest of the article has already lost me. And it's already lame content about an event that's long in the past.

they never had any intention to change, sure why would they?theyre on the gravy train, more money is on the way, give it a bit of time to let the scandal blow over and boom!the boomy time will get even boomier for them!they will be climbing the big transmission mast and having a big collective pish off the top of it on to their funders,us, the taxpayer…tired of funding these gobshiets…

Well technically if Niamh Kavanagh hadn't won in 1993 then Riverdance wouldn't have been produced.
