The F1 shop on Liffey Street, I bought a green Jordan F1 “velour” jacket

It was cringe at the time but I wish I kept it

I think he is, but Haas have been burned by rookies before so won't want 2 in the car and who else would take the seat?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,140 ✭✭✭muckwarrior

I don't get he hate for Yuki. He's performed well against his team mates the past couple of years. What more can you ask?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,215 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

I agree. A solid driver. Better than a lot on the grid. How stroll can continue to show up for work witha straight face is beyond me. I'd say he is a laughing stock secretly amongst the team.

Kmag another one who's had his day. He won't retain his seat.

Don't be so hot-headed in your car? Don't be roaring at your race engineers all the time? Don't do stupid things like nearly crash into your team mate after team orders? These are the reasons I see Red Bull not wanting him in the main team. He's never fully removed his perceived immaturity under pressure. Nothing to do with his driving mind…

That's true. His performance has been solid, but the incident a couple of races ago with Danny is a reminder that he's still immature.

Newey leaving red bull this year is your gossip for today

Not such much gossip as confirmed. Huge news. He will be the most in demand man in the sport now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,670 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

Good for F1 (you'd hope) with him leaving.

At 65, he also splits his time between England and South Africa now, will he take on another F1 team or retire?

Lawrence Stroll Snr must be sending him a blank cheque right now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,215 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

The great Toto masterplan, Verstappen and Newey

Lewis fans creaming themselves over on Reddit saying it's a done deal with Ferrari. Clowns

My guess is he'll likely retire

He might last championship winning car in him but at 65 you'd surely bet on him retiring

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,505 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

    Confirmed by BBC here: https://www.bbc.com/sport/articles/cmm3v9ny78eo

Ferrari or retirement surely for him?

Big loss for RB,things must be pretty toxic in there..

Be no shock if Maxi is next to go. The more i think of this the more certain i am he's going to Merc. Toto is hardly going to be fawning over him the last few months for no reason at all

Assuming Newey goes at the end of the season I think Max will stick around to see how RBR are shaping up without Newey and how they fare with new regs in 2026. But who knows, if Max decides to go as well that will really make things interesting in the driver market.

On Reddit a lot of people are quoting journalists saying he wants to leave at the end of this season to go to another team but don't they have to take gardening leave? He has a contract until the end of 2025.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 49,267 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Didn'tferrari treasure in a bunch of rb staff over the last year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,670 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

"Red Bull Racing say that “they are unaware of any official communication from Adrian Newey notifying of his intention to serve notice and to leave Red Bull Racing.” Sky reporter Craig Slater also makes note that Adrian Newey’s contract with Red Bull is until the end of 2025. He however needs to serve a year of gardening leave after that which means that under those terms, he would not be able to join another Formula 1 team until 2027."

This spices things up a bit more, but also pours cold water on things.

The autosport forum and reddit is full of Hamilton fanboys, pathetic, even if he goes to Ferrari, Leclerc will be the real winner.

Having said that, I would have AM over Ferrari to get him. He has worked with them before, Honda are going there, new facilities, has said he would like to work with Alonso, the reported sum offered to him is $100m over 4 seasons.

    …watch him go and retire.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

They're unaware? They didn't ask him about it no? BBC already reported that he had told them he was going so I doubt that somehow. They are liars anyway, the way they handled the whole Horndog situation has left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,505 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

His contract ends next year but he'd have to do another year of gardening leave, which is harsh.

If he does go, you'd imagine red bull would be on a slide from 2026 with a new set of regs and their new engines too...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,670 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

Harsh? F1 is regularly referred to as the Piranha Club for a reason.

Just an odd contract that expires but you have to have an additional year's leave on top of it before you can take a new job...

Red bull would be mad not to enforce it until after the new regs are done. Or else Ferrari or AM give them a huge sum in compo

    Lol

he will just work remotely or have a different job in Ferrari (or wherever). It’s pretty much unenforceable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

That's why I reckon Red Bull may take a wad of cash to allow him go, unless he is just retiring, he is 65

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭Iluvjazzmasters

Mercedes have signed James Allison on a long-term contract as CTO only a few weeks ago. I don't think Newey is going there. It's either Ferrari, AM or off to do something else in his life.

This is great news for a shake up in Formula 1.

I would be interested now to see if Verstappen jumps ship.. Id like to see him in another environment and see can he win a championship with another team and become a true F1 great like Fangio,Prost,Hill, Schumacher and Lauda.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,344 ✭✭✭Longing

When you think about it if Newey has to stay to end of contract including gardening leave it will be 2027 before he can enter another team. Now in 2027 that car will not be built by Newey. Yes he will have input on the car as the year goes on but not until 2028 will it be a full Newey car from the ground up and then he will be 69. Retirement most be very high up there. But if he doesn't go I think Aston Martin will be his next home. He has already mentioned in passing comments England is his home near to his family.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭Iluvjazzmasters

Or he could say he's retiring… then come back a year later to navigate any gardening leave.

Nothing RB could do about that.

I think AM offered him a bucket load already of cash but I don't think its money he's after. It's what they can bring to the table along with Neweys love of boat racing, classic car racing and things like that.

I didn't think Newey would have to do gardening leave as he's a contractor at RB? Not sure about UK employment laws though

    Interesting times ahead.

Imagine if he went to Williams.

"they'd never be able to afford him"

Maybe he's not in it for the money anymore.🤷

    This too shall pass.

Back to Williams. Now that would be interesting but I would say there's very little chance of that after the steering rack column court case himself and Patrick Head went through until being acquitted.

Sennas death is still raw for him to this day.

I have to say though he's worth more than any driver on the grid if someone can get him on their team.
