Harsh? F1 is regularly referred to as the Piranha Club for a reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,315 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Just an odd contract that expires but you have to have an additional year's leave on top of it before you can take a new job...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

Red bull would be mad not to enforce it until after the new regs are done. Or else Ferrari or AM give them a huge sum in compo

he will just work remotely or have a different job in Ferrari (or wherever). It’s pretty much unenforceable.

That's why I reckon Red Bull may take a wad of cash to allow him go, unless he is just retiring, he is 65

Mercedes have signed James Allison on a long-term contract as CTO only a few weeks ago. I don't think Newey is going there. It's either Ferrari, AM or off to do something else in his life.

This is great news for a shake up in Formula 1.

I would be interested now to see if Verstappen jumps ship.. Id like to see him in another environment and see can he win a championship with another team and become a true F1 great like Fangio,Prost,Hill, Schumacher and Lauda.

When you think about it if Newey has to stay to end of contract including gardening leave it will be 2027 before he can enter another team. Now in 2027 that car will not be built by Newey. Yes he will have input on the car as the year goes on but not until 2028 will it be a full Newey car from the ground up and then he will be 69. Retirement most be very high up there. But if he doesn't go I think Aston Martin will be his next home. He has already mentioned in passing comments England is his home near to his family.

Or he could say he's retiring… then come back a year later to navigate any gardening leave.

Nothing RB could do about that.

I think AM offered him a bucket load already of cash but I don't think its money he's after. It's what they can bring to the table along with Neweys love of boat racing, classic car racing and things like that.

I didn't think Newey would have to do gardening leave as he's a contractor at RB? Not sure about UK employment laws though

    Interesting times ahead.

Imagine if he went to Williams.

"they'd never be able to afford him"

Maybe he's not in it for the money anymore.🤷

    This too shall pass.

Back to Williams. Now that would be interesting but I would say there's very little chance of that after the steering rack column court case himself and Patrick Head went through until being acquitted.

Sennas death is still raw for him to this day.

I have to say though he's worth more than any driver on the grid if someone can get him on their team.

One thing about Red Bull, they are savvy when it comes to stuff like this. If they can't benefit from having Newey, then they will make sure others can't for a period of time as well.

There would be a non-compete clause, that is what RB would do about that. It might not be vacuum sealed but it will have mechanisms in it to stop him doing something like that.

For anyone that actually follows Red Bull, it’s been clear for some time now that it’s the end of an era for them.

Honda pulling out was a big blow. Dieter passing a huge loss. Marko is late 80s.

Building their own engines with investment from Ford sounds like a longer term project to me.

Hard to say for Max. He might jump ship for 2026. But he’s an incredibly loyal guy. I could also see him stay until his contract is out and then leave F1.

I’m also not sure that getting Newey is going to be the greatest thing for another team. He’s already 65 and will be even older when his gardening leave finishes. And that’s when he can start day 1 at a new team.

This is the question I had. Is he definitely going to another f1 team? He's 65 so might have other plans for semi-ruetirement. A year out of F1 might be enough for him to enjoy not working so hard, soend time with the family.

Or maybe he's a workaholic and the idea of a year out for a year would drive him bananas and can't wait to get back into F1 to make a new team world champions.

Really the only ones saying Ferrari right now are the media, they offered him "Hollywood money" (his words in his book), and he turned them down, and has done another time too.

Of the teams that might tempt him, AM seem favs right now. If they get bought our by Aramco like the rumours say, that is probably more money than any of the current F1 teams. But even then, it is an IF.

I will also not, the British media that are salivating about Newey going to Ferrari and Hamilton playing a blinder…Charles Leclerc anyone? Him in a Newey designed Ferrari…good lord.

The 00s are a bit of a blur to me, did Lewis ever drive a Newey McLaren or was he already gone by then?

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,025 ✭✭✭✭El_Duderino 09

No. Newly has apparently said he'd like to work with Lewis. Said the same about Alonso so that's probably adding to the Ferrari and AM speculation.

Think that comes from the video linked a few posts above. That was a good video @dulpit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,921 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

Technically, kinda. The 2007 McLaren had his lineage in it, I believe Lewis has said this before. It also shows that a designer and their team can set direction for years for others to carry on.

Which is why red bull could be goosed with the new regs in 26. It'll be a new car and no Newey input...

Well at that, those regs still haven't even been finalized yet, Red Bull also have Pierre Wache and Enrico Balbo, they aren't a one man show.

Max has said multiple times F1 isn't his long term goal after his current contract which ends in 2028, he'll only be 30 then. He's been there since he was 16 and that was planned well in advance. He'll be a 5 time world champion by 2026 so if an offer came in from another racing series would he jump at it ?

Newey at 65 would surely want to step back from f1 at this stage you'd think as it's awfully long calendar but if he did sign for another team he'd probably be 70 by the time that contract ended.

Markos driver development decisions haven't exactly been great apart from Verstappen in recent years. Lawson has a fantastic racing record and nearly winning super formula in his first year is seriously impressive. He should have been put in the second vcarb seat, he's too good the sitting on the side lines. Can't say I'd be sad to see Marko go, he's always stirring things up or causing controversy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,921 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

Also lads, be prepared for Chandhok to be dribbling over this until we know what Newey is doing.

“Lewis Hamilton has played a blinder yet again”, Charles LeClerc will also agree 🤭

How realistic are those rumours about Aramco buying Aston?

I was wondering when they were going to buy a team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,186 ✭✭✭wazzzledazzle

Is the rumour specific them just buying the F1 team? and not the actual AM company as a whole?

    Bottas back to Mercedes?

    I kid.

Can'y be ruled out. Might work for 1 season. Toto is his manager anyway so easy to get done
