this whataboutery doesn’t obviate the empirical fact that Israel is stealing land - and well after the advent of the Geneva conventions.

Christians living in Islamic countries basically have to be quiet and passive, they can't have any signs of Christianity.

You've clearly never been in a Muslim country then.

It’s not that difficult to look up.

Yoav Gallant, the Minister of Defense, said that "Israel is working to make it clear to everyone who acts against us, all over the Middle East, that the price for acting against Israel will be a heavy price."

IsraelDaniel Hagari, the IDF spokesman, told reporters: "According to our intelligence, this is neither a consulate nor an embassy." He further added that the target struck was a "military building of Quds forces disguised as a civilian structure in Damascus".

'Had the Arabs accepted' sums everything up.

I don't think you or I would accept someone taking half of our wealth and property we've held for years and told 'accept this now and it's a great deal, don't you dare suggest some of what we're taking is yours or the greatest super power in the world will arm us to the teeth to suppress you'.

Taking first bit, choosing that event to try and illustrate hipocrisy is ironic imo.

You omitted the important fact that Israel happily sold (and continues to sell) the Azeris a lot of the modern weapons that altered military balance in region and made the war and the ethnic cleansing afterwards possible.

All good business I suppose, and I think it also creates problems and threats for Iran near their border so that is all Israel cares about. Pure self interest, and f-ck anyone caught in cross fire of their military sales and geopolitics game-playing. I suppose they won't be getting Armenian refugees anyway.

Birds of a Feather (Aliyev and Netanyahu in this case) do seem to flock together in global politics.

Antisemitic being trotted out again to try to deflect from the murderous War on Children. Right on cue too.

The first animation starts in 1940, ignores the historic Jewish history in the region. Very selective. It’s like Americans protesting ‘stolen’ land, are they going to give their property back to Native Americans? Muslims protesting about illegal settlements in the West when there are huge numbers of illegal Muslim migrants entering Europe and the US. Seriously, look in the mirror.

An innocent 14-year old Israeli teenager was murdered on Friday in the West Bank, his body found earlier today by security forces.

Israeli defence minister now urging people in the community not to seek revenge as it would otherwise hinder the security forces trying to find the terrorists who committed the murder. Reports suggest there was some violence between the two communities after the murder.

Yoav Gallant said he was "saddened" by the death of Binyamin Achimair, who he said was "murdered in cold blood".

I appeal to the public, let the security forces act quickly in the hunt for the terrorists - revenge actions will make it difficult for our fighters in their mission - the law must not be taken into one's hands," Mr Gallant said on X

What kind of people murder an innocent 14-year old kid, just because of his nationality?

”Hamas is very bad so it’s okay if the Israelis spit on Christians a little” is that what you’re saying?

So wouldn't this be easily circumvented by firing multiple independent missiles? From the moment of launch the trajectory must be calculated and it's supposed target determined. These aren't bottle-rockets that Hizbollah has. In fact I read that they have upwards of 100,000 ballistic missiles guided and unguided. They used wire-guided ant-tank Kornets against the IDF in 2006 and obliterated dozens of Merkeva tanks.

It's probably completely lost on you how tone deaf this post comes across in the context of what has been discussed in this thread. And just to preempt the inevitable, yes it's a crime that a teenager was killed and yes I condemn Hamas.

Mass launches are the usual Hezbollah/Hamas AN Other approach to overwhelming defences. It's pretty much an attritional strategy. Iranian proxies can and do launch hundreds of rockets at a time on occasion. Its a cheap means to deplete Tamir missile stocks and even intercepted Iranian/Hamas/Hezbollah rockets have the "benefit" of costing Israel/US both money and long lead time Tamir stockpiles.

Don't make the mistake of conflating actual ballistic missiles of even the basic Scud type, with the vast majority of the rockets launched by Hamas and Hezbollah. There is a world of difference between the damage and the tech in a Shaheb or Iskander ballistic missiles, and the damage that and accuracy of unguided and short ranged rockets that fly a ballistic parabola to their target.

The former are expensive, complex and require a lot of logistical support, the latter can be built in basic workshops and are far easier to defend against.

Similarly with the Hezbollah use of Konkurs, Koronet and other guided ATGM, they are advanced weapons capable of defeating most Israeli armoured vehicles. However, they are expensive, again require training and are short range, line of sight weapons.

Israel has quite effective defense against the unguided short range rockets in Iron Dome and various other CRAM systems and it's counter battery fire is effective too, often to the point of levelling city blocks in the vicinity of identified launch sites.

Israel also has effective defence against actual ballistic missiles in the layered David's Sling medium range, and Arrow long range systems. That said, Israel faces 2 huge issues with it's advanced missile defence. Cost, David's Sling is $1 million a shot, and Arrow 3 is $3 million a shot, and scope of defended areas. Israel is small, with a small population and quite dense urban areas. It means a single unsuccessful intercept of an actual ballistic missile carries outsized risk of high casualties. It cannot afford to miss an intercept and it also cannot indefinitely afford to launch interceptors.

To be clear, Iron Dome is capable against short ranged unguided rockets. Think of it as a goalkeeper for a Sunday league team, defending against Sunday league strikers. Whereas Israel's actual layered missile defence systems are world class and highly capable but are limited by economic constraints of cost and stockpile depth, with the added problem of Iran or AN other only needing to land 1 missile in Haifa, Tel Aviv ir even Jerusalem to cause outsize impact and, force an escalatory response from Israel.

Seriously? Putin's attacking Europe and you're worried about Netanyahu? Have a word with yourself.

Presuming the stuff Hezbollah are firing is just junk to wear out the Iron Dome system for when they want to fire a proper rocket system.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue

    ”LOOK OVER THERE!!”

Brother, there’s already another thread for that.

Who is more of a worry, Netanyahu, or Putin. I believe Putin by far. For one thing, he stirs up Hamas and Iran. For another, he threatens Europe on a regular basis.

Not exonerating Netanyahu by any means, he needs to go, the sooner, the better, along with his maniacal Likudniks.

then go post about it in the Russia thread. Zzz

What incidentally is Vlad’s Ukrainian child body count in 2 and a half years, to Israel’s 6 months?

Bibi is a complete psychopath. He's well capable of using whatever weapons he has in his arsenal. The worry is he's so unhinged he deploys a nuke on Tehran if they embarrass him.

US officials saying they expect the retaliatory strike in the early hours (just after midnight) of Sunday morning Israeli time.

Joe Biden has also returned to Washington unexpectedly today.

There is definitely a real expectation that something might occur overnight.

I wouldn't put it pass Putin to do that. The Hamas attack has worked out very well for him indeed.

However he and Bibi have expressed admiration for each other in the past and Israel and Russia have had an alliance of sort over the years. On the other hand both individuals are ruthless psychopaths so both would shaft the other for strategic advantage. US Intelligence believes Iran had no direct involvement in the attacks. I think if the Iranian had a hand in the attacks Israel would have bombed Tehran in the days after the Hamas rampage.
