Goebbels would be proud of the "othering" going on. I don't think he ever could have dreamed of reaching such a level himself.

Biden is showing himself to be distinctly lacking in intellectual capacity in giving Israel an ironclad guarantee of standing with them should Iran strike back. What Israel did in Damascus violated international law. Biden if he had any balls would say to Israel you deliberately instigated an escalation of the conflict so be prepared to endure the re-precussions. Netanyahu only cares about staying in power at any cost. Biden is either too dependent on Jewish lobby or too senile to see this obvious reality.

Why the hard on for having the Irish government issue repeated statements over and over against Hamas for murdering Israeli civilians but you don't think they should get involved for Israeli civilians murdered by the IDF on the same day?

Seems a bit contradictory - no?

It was a very detached reaction.

He seemed very matter of fact about it all. Most parents would be beside themselves losing one child never mind three. Perhaps he did not want to appear fragile to the Israelis.

If the sons were actively engaged with Hamas then to me they are a legitimate target. The children with them are not.

The problem is that the IDF don't care about Palestinians civilians. An Israeli spokesperson even admitted that killing 5 civilians was worth it for every hamas fighter killed.

If he was to say publicly what quite a few of his civil servants are saying in private that would be the end of his re- election chances. He would be branded as a hamas sympathiser by Republicans. So even if he wants to say more he won't. However I am not sure if it is a question of political realism with him. He has been a committed zionist all his political life. So it could be that he genuinely means that the support is Ironclad. If so Nethanyu has played him perfectly. Bibi will be disappointed if the Iranians don't launch a direct attack on Israel.

I didn't compare them. I said the most moderate of people take the most extreme option, open to them, when they are second class citizens in an apartheid state.

serious concerns that iran is about to go all out to create it's nuclear bombs

"Iran currently holds 150 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent, enough to build three bombs."

As Iran vows revenge, Israel worries it could get even by going nuclear

I'd trust iran before i'd trust Israel. Far more volatile.

just a reminder the same guy who is telling Israel to hurry and “finish the job” in Gaza is also the one who killed the Iran nuclear deal thereby allowing them to accelerate nuclear proliferation unabated

talk of multiple countries trying to encourage iran not to attack israel - we will have to see how this pans out the next few days

When the number 2 guy in Iran was killed, Iran made a lot of noise but did very little in the end. The Americans were content not to respond to the missile attack on their base in Iraq. Iran has to be seen to respond to this latest attack in order to not look weak. The Iranians know they cannot defeat Israel militarily, even without America getting directly involved.

I think this is why they will try to respond in such a way to avoid escalation and not fall into the Israeli trap. Bibi is just itching for a pretext to go into Lebanon and perhaps bomb Iran directly.

My guess is Iran will do absolutely nothing. The Israeli Trump will hit Iranian interests again though in an attempt to drag Iran into a war.

This is the way it works.

    Someone condemns the October attacks.

Israeli spokesperson complains that they didn't mention the kidnapped and so implies the condemnation isn't really sincere.

So they condemn the attacks and specifically mention the kidnapped people.

Israeli spokesperson says they didn't mention sexual assaults that occurred that day and so implies the condemnation isn't really sincere.

Person condemns the attacks, the kidnapping and the sexual assaults.

Israeli spokesmen says they didn't mention something else and so implies the condemnation isn't really sincere.

It's the most basic use of whatabouttery to try and distract about Israeli crimes. If anyone says "maybe you shouldn't kill so many children" then they are automatically pro hamas.

The US and U.K. are arming and funding the Israelis and complicit in the land grabs and forceful removal of Palestinians from their lands. See how that works?? Iran hasn’t bombed an Israeli embassy. It has been bombed by Israel.

What right does Iran have to fund Islamic extremist organizations sought to destroy Israel ?

    Iran isn't the Palestinian people.

If Hamas, the proxy of Iran, had invested the stolen billions in developing Gaza and improving the lives of ordinary citizens, rather than using the territory as a launch pad for missiles; this war would never have started, those Gazans not killed; and life in Gaza would be far more prosperous than it is today.

Just as Israel is fighting Hamas in Gaza, how would you react if Northern Ireland were run by ISIS, and funded by Iran, who were firing rockets into Dublin every month?

You'd want retaliation against Iran, and you'd be right to consider it that way.

Israel is no different, in that regard. The "government" of Iran is a necrotic force for instability throughout the region.

what right does the US have to find Jewish extremism that seeks to destroy Palestine itself?

Second paragraph is absolute nonsense. Hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank were murdered before October 7th last year. So no matter what, Palestinians would have been killed, detained, or stripped of their land, their homes and their dignity.

The rest just points out all of the things Israel do on a daily basis, and posits it on to someone else. There are none so blind as those that will not see.

Israeli genocide good, everyone against it bad. What a warped world view.

Absolutely. Sunak and Biden have blood on their hands make no mistake about it. Iran thus far have been very measured in their response and lack of escalation and should be applauded for that.

I'm not sure I follow your logic here.

Is it your position that because the US backs Israel, then Iran has a right to fund Islamic extremist organizations throughout the Middle East who embezzle billions of dollars for themselves?

    Lack of escalation?

Iran cooperated with Hamas to organize the attacks on Israel on October 7 that acted as the casus belli of this war.

They have been anything but measured, and should definitely not be "applauded" — which given the deaths that have happened on both sides due to this war — is not a word I would ever use in regard to Iran.

the reality is there are about 2,000,000,000 muslims in the world and about 15 million jews, 6 million jews alone were systematically eradicated only 80 years ago - of course the US is going to support israel who are surrounded on all sides by those who are absolutely hell bent on destroying them - once that's done the west is next on iranian and co. radar - of course the US will protect its main ally in the middle east

Talk of Israel being 'destroyed' is hot air. Nobody is planning on invading or taking over Israel. Anyone who claims that Israel is at risk of being obliterated is engaging in disingenuous nonsense which they know to be untrue. The country is believed to have nuclear weapons, for crying out loud.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,531 ✭✭✭combat14

the reality is many islamic countries around israel would only love to wipe it from the face of the earth

Iran has been threatening to destroy israel for 40 years all the time building up to just shy of a nuclear bomb today

I doubt Israelis feel safe after decade after decade of iranian religious leaders unrelenting calls to obliterate them

"one other constant that has been in place since the fateful day that a triumphant Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini left France for Tehran is Iran’s incessant call for the elimination of Israel."

40 years of Iranian threats against Israel

The Israeli and Iranian regimes are both evil and both have no problem in killing innocent men, women and children. I wonder if a famine does occur in Gaza will posters still be shamelessly posting their concerns on what irish politicians and the ayatollah is saying.

Israel had been stealing land and falsely arresting and even killing Palestine people for many years before Oct 7th. You need to be fair and address those points.

I still don't see the link between Israel and their actions regarding land; and Iran, thousands of miles away, funding Islamic extremist groups around the Middle East (not just Israel).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,573 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Ah here !! Israel should try staying within its own borders and stop provoking reactions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,118 ✭✭✭TokTik

You don’t see the link between Israel wanting to obliterate Palestine, and Iran wanting to obliterate Israel??

Fine for US/U.K. thousands of miles away to fund Israel to do this, but bad of Iran for to fund Palestine to try to stop this??

hamas's attack on 7 october is responsible for the current situation hence the title of this thread

hamas's buddy iran is well capable of straying outside its borders and "provoking reactions"

My concern is with the ill-treatment of innocent Palestinians which has nothing to do with Iran but plenty to do with Israel. Israel has been stealing their land and treating them very poorly for many years. There would be no hamas but for that.
