Doubling down on this sectarian nonsense won't get you anywhere.

    Why?

Because the politician in question is not a member of the Orange Order.

And even if he was, so what?

Your comment about spuds and the Irish is also quite racist.

    Only Irish people plant spuds?

Non-Catholics don't eat or plant spuds?

I have no idea what you are on about. But it stinks of sectarian bigotry.

This is the behaviour you refuse to condone and are happy to stand by.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/politics/2024/03/01/online-abuse-deterring-young-women-from-political-careers-ibec-event-told/

    https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/politics/arid-41221342.html

University of Galway research found that 96% of women surveyed had received abusive social media messages

Perhaps you should tell those women to cry a river?

So you refuse to answer the question and instead post a load of stuff from Google in regards Gilmore's career.

Ill ask again, what exactly constitutes a cushy job?

The mere fact that when pressed on some details of the stuff you post, you run for the hill and deflect like a mad one.

    Wont fool ol' Marko.

So do me the honour and answer me the question put.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

Oh please. How can I refuse to condone articles I have never seen before?? Again, I am not on these forums. It wouldn't bother me in the least if they didn't exist. I would advise all politicians to abandon stupid forums like Twitter.

Ok Sherlock, how do you propose online abuse is eliminated? Answer on a postcard please. Undo the internet?

I am telling you and CloClo to cry me a river because twitter upsets you so much that you feel compelled to read it every day!

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

I think I have fooled old Marko. Gilmore s career, that's how you saw it... It was a good post eh? 😉 Cushy out.

Do you answer any of my questions? What has he achieved in EU? Gilmore's career in the trough.

Nothing on Dara Murphy and EU job?

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Oh please, this reply is embarrassing.

I never said he was a member of the Orange Order, I said his granddad was. I was just stating a fact and your faux outrage does you no favours so please jog on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 277 ✭✭Guildenstern

Week one and Harris is grandstanding on the EU stage. Somone should remind him he's Taoiseach here, not Brussels.

Friendly media, IT and RTE, leading on his efforts, lobbying for him already. So, the election campaign has started then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,088 ✭✭✭Clo-Clo

So online abuse of TD's is ok is what you are saying

    Very insightful

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,088 ✭✭✭Clo-Clo

Everyone knows exactly what you did, at least admit it when you rightly got called out on it.

Didn't you post before you have multiple twitter accounts? I think we can see why when you are going around posting stuff like that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,088 ✭✭✭Clo-Clo

I didn't think you would remember. To remind you, you gave out about the Green Party not putting a greenway into Galway. A party you never voted for or has a TD in the area. If you think a TD asking 4 questions is a good return then not sure why you complained about the green party.

Not sure what the personal comment is about?

Maybe you can explain why you feel the constant need to discuss posters? what exactly is the point of this comment?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,226 ✭✭✭creedp

The irony "Maybe you can explain why you feel the constant need to discuss posters?"

"Didn't you post before you have multiple twitter accounts? I think we can see why when you are going around posting stuff like that"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,088 ✭✭✭Clo-Clo

They posted on boards before that they runs multiple accounts on twitter.

In regards to the comment about "Ignore", I never use ignore and never told the poster that I had used ignore.

They have made a number of personal comments, like the previous post I quoted.

You posted yesterday about me driving a diesel, as I said at the time I never hid I drove a diesel and posted it on boards, but didn't see the point at the time of you raising that I drove diesel. It had nothing to do with the conversation and to me, it seemed like you just tried to get a personal dig in because the discussion was on Green policies thread, you said it wasn't and I accepted as such

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

Do you keep a log of my posts? We have been waiting for that Greenway for over 25 years. All the parties are to blame. Catherine Connolly has been much more effective on repeating raising parliamentary questions on it. I'd say she has raised more parliamentary questions than most TDs across a range of subjects. She is brilliant at holding the 3 unwise men and their ministers to account.

I have voted Green in the past, just not #1. They have been outstanding in this government...

We have also been waiting 30+ years for a new bridge and bypass or ring road. The Greens are against it and yet Galway is always gridlocked. It's impacting the local economy.

Dublin will get a Metro before we get a bypass. Probably never.

Our Green party candidate (O'Reilly) is now going for the Euro elections. Great expenses going back and over to Brussels you know.

Didn't you put my on Ignore once? How's Twitter today?

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,088 ✭✭✭Clo-Clo

I never claimed to put you on ignore

I hace a twitter account but don't use it apart from some mates over seas, Twitter has turned into a cesspool with the online abuse

Not sure what that has to do with the topic?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,328 ✭✭✭Tenzor07

So, I see that Harris is postponing the upcoming patent referendum at next week’s Cabinet meeting?

Are FFFG so scared of going to the people again?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 29,542 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

It's hardly his fault if "the people" are going to vote down a technocratic and incredibly useful arrangement because of some gripe with the current government.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,252 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Indeed.. there seem to be more focus and commentary on recognising Gaza (as if that'll do anything to resolve those issues or in real terms makes any difference to anyone here) than getting stuck into addressing the far more immediate and concerning problems at home.

I can't really say I'm surprised. He's basically Leo 2.0 - entirely led by trends, what he thinks will make him popular on Twitter, and spin over substance.

I suppose he has no choice really. He has no qualifications for the role beyond time served in FG and being the "default" choice because the others stepped back, he's been utterly unremarkable in his political career to-date, and he's clearly planning to enjoy his months in the sun.

It would be great to be proven wrong, but he's not off to a good start!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,328 ✭✭✭Tenzor07

Thanks for answering the question, this referendum hasn't been run yet and you've suggested here that it will be voted down already so you get the feeling that this Government has very little support from the electorate…

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 29,542 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

Yes, I think they have limited support. I also think we don't treat our referenda with sufficient respect. I would like to think it would pass on its own merits but history suggests otherwise.

I do think that running it together with Europe would have helped and I'm not sure what benefit there really is to postponing it though.

You definitely said you would stop responding to me because I criticised your posting style. Anyhoo.

Is there a report button on Twitter?

I don't even know what the topic is anymore. Oh yes, Simon the Tiktok Taoiseach. Is Tiktok a cesspit I wonder, I haven't ventured there either...

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

Yeah I was struck by the news this morning. Simon's main focus in week 1 is Gaza and he is meeting the Spanish PM for the 2nd time in 2 days to discuss Gaza and yet he couldn't muster up an hour for Leaders Questions. Strange. Some of the folks here were on the wrong side of the Gaza genocide debate so they must be scratching their heads too.

This post was supposed to be a reply/quote with Kaiser's post but I guess I didn't hit the quote button.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,328 ✭✭✭Tenzor07

Wasn't it supposed to be run in tandem with the Euro's\locals?

It's a referendum that I'd say most people couldn't give a fiddlers about!

Most people would prefer a referendum on opting in or out of the migration pact, and i'd say FFFG aren't going to even think for a second about allowing us to vote on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭Cluedo Monopoly

Yes but it would be cowardly to avoid the referendum on that fear of the electorate. FFG have sang the praises of the patent referendum and if they promote it correctly, it should be a no brainer. It actually shows contempt for the electorate.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,077 ✭✭✭MrMusician18

If they are switching their criticism does that not indicate that they are critical of the individuals performance in post, rather than outright personal attacks?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,077 ✭✭✭MrMusician18

Surely it is his fault if he recognises the huge anger at the government out there but refuses to have a general election.

Why not give the public the tools to voice their anger correctly. What is he afraid of?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,313 ✭✭✭✭markodaly

It's a fact that members of the Orange Order dont plant spuds?

Or that their grandchildren dont plant spuds?

Are these 'facts' you are spouting?

Now what the OO have to do with FG or a politician beats me, but its just low-level sectarian dog whistling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,313 ✭✭✭✭markodaly

You made a statement of 'fact' that the jobs Gilmore has had in the EU are cushy numbers.

I am just asking how you came to that conclusion, as you have no details as to your actual claim.

Is it just based on the fact that it's a role within the EU, that makes it a cushy number? As in all jobs within the EU cushy numbers?

It's just high-level anti-establishment populist nonsense. The same kind of stuff that Trump and his MAGA crew spout in the US or UKIP folks in the UK. That is the basis and foundation of your argument.

And you still cannot answer the question.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,313 ✭✭✭✭markodaly

You seem OK with women getting abused online because they choose to be politicians. Your advice is 'just get off Twitter'.

    More Gaza. FFS.

I had hoped that a change would result in Fine Gael refocusing their priorities but even at this early stage it looks like nothing is going to change.

The way things are going Fine Gael are going to get a fully deserved hammering in the elections.
