    Great idea, inspiration is a blinding flash of the obvious.

    I run 2 lines of el fence wire between the lie-back shed and the calving shed to guide cows about to calve into the calving shed. Rolling up the wire onto reels eventually rolls them into knots along the lines. I'm off now to find similar to what you have.

    just looked back on this forum to 2018 spring, christ it was nearly as bad as 2013, April was horrendous that month hopefully not in for another April 2018, it stretched into mid May before growth got going , then all growth stopped from early june in drought, about 3 weeks of growth until early august rain

    I was looking at something I did in 2008 and thinking of that spring/summer. March to May was decent. It then rained from June to the end of the year. We got a 7-10 day reprieve in September and managed to get silage made.

    I’m shocked had to get a few loads of slurry out last evening. Was afraid to go out and see the field , the driver said field wasn’t too bad. Didn’t think it would hold up so well.

    @Dickie10 them fields look in very good condition. I was out in a field with the cows today and a snipe took off out of the grass... u only see them in wet land...

    It was horrendous but at least their is cover and growth this year, that April was skinning cold here, it was bad for grass before any drought.

    An awful lot of other things have changed since then so I suppose they are alike and different.

    Bloddy clocks changing tonight, the sooner this craic stops the better.

    The evenings are plenty bright enough already and will only get more so and I can't see the attraction of going back to dark mornings.

    Same as that, no advantage to it being bright at half 4 in the morning whereas the extra hour in the evening is a great job.

    I went with the 18 -6-12 left a mark driving dwn to this field but spread away grand without a mark ! Delighted , I’m under pressure for grass

    Just back from dropping the young lad to the airport. He is gone off on a trip to Lourdes with a group. He has special needs. He cried when I was leaving, heartbreaking, he will be grand, but tis hard to hand them over to someone else for a week.

    I think you have the wrong end if the stick there, they are discussing leaving it on summertime for good so it'll be darker in the mornings for more of the year

    They did that in the Seventies afaik and there was some Children killed waiting for buses on dark roads was there not so the idea was dropped.

    That wouldn't make any sense, summertime, new time, or DST, was the adjustment for productivity purposes by the by the British Empire bean counters, and it's been well shown to be to the detriment of human health in the general population. I remember an old cousin who, along with a certain cohort, used to leave his watch at old time all year round as a mark of national protest.

    I'll move my alarm clock back 10 mins a day for the week and I should be sorted by next weekend. Going by the clock I'll be late for everything all day and it tears the arse out of the evening.

    Yea sheep on it well into winter. I’m feeding nuts to ewes still and creep to lambs . Good to get this on, might move it a bit

    Well we got our first bed dug yesterday and the onions n. The ground was only so so but we didn't do too much pedalling with it and it'll be grand.

    It's great to make a start, and it's my first day's thinking that the winter us behind us now. It's good for my soul to get the feel of the ground too and to pass it on to the children.
