Calls have went out today folks for May (although this could be done over a number of days according to ML position) so anyone appointable and sub <100 I reckon keep close to your phones …

  • Registered Users Posts: 164 ✭✭Starsky1

    Anyone here get a call?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1 Kawasaki_636

Hi Folks, been following the page for the past couple of weeks. Got a call yesterday afternoon for confirmed May course. I’m between 90-100 on ML if this helps any. Thanks

Folks, as @[Deleted User] confirmed, calls started yesterday.

After 3 years I finally got the call. After thinking about it for a long time, I have decided to put my application on hold. I'm starting a new role and with having kids there is a lot to be said for having a day shift job with decent salary. Unfortunately, that's the downside of a campaign dragging on for a long time. I know others will be in a similar position to me.

I still think it would be a fantastic career! Just not for me at my stage.

I wish everyone the best of luck and anyone has any questions on the process I'm happy to help..

I would recommend not putting your life on hold until the actually call comes!

Well this is it mate - family priorities are number one at the end of the day.

Where were you on the ML?

I have been between the idea of stick and twist - I don't like the job I'm in now and have had a few opportunities elsewhere and I think if may doesn't happen for me then I might have to pursue other avenues which will be a bit of a shame all things considered.

When they ring, how long can you put the application on hold?

  • Registered Users Posts: 138 ✭✭Blueandtwo1320

    I'm between 105-115.

I think it just comes down to everyones personal circumstances. In the 3 years mine changed alot.

Who knows, I could really get the itch in 6 months and want to go for it lol.... it's nice having that flexibility.

  • Registered Users Posts: 138 ✭✭Blueandtwo1320

    Up to 12 months @Starsky1

    That’s good to know 😀

Does anyone know what the shift pattern is like? I’m the same.. with it being so long I’m starting to wonder if it will suit at the moment so this would be helpful information.

I know the fire service operates on 2 nightshifts and 2 dayshifts then off for 4 days and so on. Is the PSNI similar?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭thehills4

Once I start serving in my District, what shifts will I be required to work?

As a Local Policing Team (LPT) officer you will be required to work a variety of early, late and night shifts on a five week shift pattern. In a typical five week period you can expect to work approximately 7 early, 5 late and 9 night shifts. You can expect to work three or four of any shift at a time and then receive rest days.

That's from the join psni website no idea what the rotation is like

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭ynwa22

I believe you get on average 2 out of 4 weekends off, from what I've seen from what I've heard.

  • Registered Users Posts: 66 ✭✭mse2020

When i applied for the job, i was earning 50k with no kids ..... 3 years later when i got the call i was engaged, with 2 kids alot can be said about your typical 9 to 5 however for me i had no quality of life, i got home tired and exhausted and to be honest i didnt have the energy to talk to anyone, let alone my kids, being in the job a year has given me time to look back and i really think i have made the right choice.

(i know everyones situations are different this is just my opinion)

If you want the job enough you will make it work, as i said i took a 20k paycut, my partner only worked part time, no overtime in GV isnt great but you have to make it work, time wise GV is great 9 to 5 monday to friday most days your home for half 5 when on the ground its different, you can get held on at a call and not finish for a few hours and OT can be a bit much but you have to make the most of yours days off and actually be present with your family spend proper time with the people around you.

I believe that once you find out what works for you, the shifts and working hours are great. I really do enjoy it.

    Any questions ask away

  • Registered Users Posts: 251 ✭✭NeeNaw21

Monto Fri 9-5 office jobs (especially if you are still being made to come I to the office) are a 5 over 7 shift pattern that never changes.

You only really get Saturday off in a weekend because you spend half of Sunday getting ready for the next week.

Shift work i find you have a lot more free time. But that's me.

Any idea on were we will be on the merit list after May calls are all finalised ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 80 ✭✭Unknown117

I wonder why they only made it accurate as of 4.3.24 and didn't include the calls that went out this / last week

  • Registered Users Posts: 17 P5N12024

And it looks like 12 people off the 2021 list and 6 people from the 2020 list, so is May’s class only 18?? 👀

  • Registered Users Posts: 245 ✭✭Anonymous4321

No that’s accurate from the start of the month. I swear people got the call this week for May course? so they wont be included in the pie charts.

yes at least 2 on here. I’m confused by those figures. Last figures were inclusive of April calls. Only thing between that and 4 March was reserve for that course which would only be a handful?

  • Registered Users Posts: 245 ✭✭Anonymous4321

is the maximum number of student officers able to go to GV of 350 per year a budget thing or has it always been that way regardless of the budget?

I reckon budget and people resourcing as some staff likely redeployed. If you think a normal course is 51 and they can do like 8-10 a year it can be slightly over that

  • Registered Users Posts: 245 ✭✭Anonymous4321

Id like to see if the resource plan changes once they get their budget for 24/25. Surely they would want more than 3 intakes for this financial year.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17 P5N12024

Someone in my work told me GV can hold 600 students per year, class sizes are usually 18 and I think the biggest intake is 54/56.

PSNI has got the 7% pay award….Naomi Long has signed it off.

    ****

    1. The PSNI has confirmed that this pay remit is affordable from within the PSNI’s 2023-24 budget allocation and due regard has been given to its impact on delivering public services and future years’ budgets.
    2. Although future budgets have not been set, the PSNI has confirmed it will ensure that the cost of this pay remit is prioritised from within the future budgets allocated.

Brilliant news, and another key line from the release from DOJ is that “*All constables move to pay point 2 after twelve months at pay point 1.*”

Now 6 months after GV we will move to pay point 2, rather than 2.5 years. 7 years to reach top of scale rather than 9. 50k in 7 years!

  • Registered Users Posts: 200 ✭✭crazyfire999

Where do you see that? I have the release and it doesn’t say that

  • Registered Users Posts: 251 ✭✭NeeNaw21

    No.

1 year after attesting you will move to pay point 2.

GV to Attestation will be at pay point 1 as point zero is now removed.

So 1.5 ish years after starting GV will be pay point 2

Just wondering for anyone on this merit list have any of you attended a course called "no tomatoes consulting"? Concerned about my security going to a public place and people knowing my name and that I want to join the PSNI lol. If anyone could validate their legitimacy that'd be appreciated.

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭ynwa22

Yeah I attended it. First time I applied in like 2019 I was like 700+ in merit list with no prep, then attended that course and got around 140-150ish it really made a difference for me.

I used it and it was invaluable for me.

I really recommend it for anyone wanting to use it for future recruitment.

  • Registered Users Posts: 200 ✭✭crazyfire999

I know people that used it also, however…

Do you really need it? I don’t think so.

Those I know that used it, said it was a pile of old shite and a money making game for the boys behind it. Which it is, and fair play, as it works for them. They sent me the paperwork and what was issued to them. Moneymaker game.

lads and girls, the assessments are piss easy. Be yourself and just remember this…. If your granny or a family member was in the situation how would you like them to be treated by officers.. and applying common sense on top of all that…

It’s not difficult at all. If you can communicate and know what is needed, you can’t do wrong. It’s also very well explained on the day.

It’s all common sense and very easy. If you can write, think and speak and use common sense, you don’t need to be forking out hundreds of pounds.

Happy to answer any questions about it (for free) privately.

    Save your money!

  • Registered Users Posts: 84 ✭✭georgie1305

Can I just say that is terrible advice for anyone who is wishing to go for the role.

Giving people a false sense of security, by saying "it's very easy", will only trip people up and make them complacent.

Out of the 1000s applying, only 1100 made it. Surely if it was "very easy", we'd have 5000 in our merit list.....

Some parts can be conducted off natural instinct, depending on the person and experience.

What about report writing? Which the course really well explains and I knew full well I wouldn't have done as well without it. The coursework given explained well in my eyes and made the difference for me.

For some people, the few quid to attend, can be the difference of a career or not. I felt like that was the case for me personally.

Theyre giving their years of experience, money has to be made.

But if you do happen to fail, they offer you a refund 🤷‍♂️

  • Registered Users Posts: 200 ✭✭crazyfire999

I’m glad to read it worked for you personally. Otherwise I was thinking you are one of the guys that run the course 😉

Absolutely, attending any course or tutoring services will help you in any field whether that be to help you in the psni assessment day or pass your GCSE maths .

If you have completed the assessment you could offer the guys on here some help instead of having them pay £250. Again, let’s be honest, you get £125 back if you fail. Not the full £250! So let’s keep with facts.

I don’t think it’s bad advice - it’s not rocket science. You need to be able to write as an officer, so if you need someone to tell you how to write, I would be raising eyebrows. If you have completed the assessment day, you will know that it’s very black and white and well explained.

Yes of course it’s not easy, the entire point of the assessment centre is to assess the competencies and skill set of those applying against the framework to have the best suited in the job. Otherwise what would be the point of it. It’s not difficult and if you are meant to be a police officer and showcase the skills and attributes, then you will find it very doable. Otherwise 🤷🏼‍♂️

Of course if you think you want to pay £250 then it’s your own money. I’ve spoken to a few who have completed it and they think they should have spent it on a holiday. Don’t forget if you fail, you only get £125 back 🤷🏼‍♂️

Again, my messages are open, more than happy to share my experience and offer some help for free. I have had some messages already and they seem happy enough with what I have shared.

    Good luck 😉

  • Registered Users Posts: 245 ✭✭Anonymous4321

Personally I see it as an investment - £250 to help you get into a career you could be doing for 30 + years.

May as well take all the help you can get as going on the course (or any course) certainly wont disadvantage you.

They also do courses for serving officers going from the likes of Constable to Sergeant, Chief Insp - Supt etc, so must be a credited enough business.

Is anyone on here on the April course as confirmed or reserve? Have a few questions regarding the induction

  • Registered Users Posts: 3 UserNotFound

Hopefully, you get accepted into MET, for I’d hate to be stuck in your squad, awful obnoxious. 😂😂

  • Registered Users Posts: 200 ✭✭crazyfire999

Do they carry these out in GV? Didn’t know that 🫠

  • Registered Users Posts: 200 ✭✭crazyfire999

Too many snowflakes eh 😉 - you will soon get rid of that in a squad lol…

  • Registered Users Posts: 200 ✭✭crazyfire999

And I’m not obnoxious lol - it’s not a playground mate. It’s real life, real people and the public want professional officers turning up at their door. Now calm your jets. Good luck with your assessment!

  • Registered Users Posts: 229 ✭✭Boneyard2002

How is it obnoxious to state that he believes that a course isn’t good? To be brutally honest for you to then say that you’d be hate to stuck in their course, that’s a bit over the top.. just by that comment I really can tell you’d run to the SGT and tout on something you disagree with..

you’ll also not last in the real world with that attitude. Simply because someone has a different opinion than you. Grow up. You’re going into a police service, opinions are going to be different whether you like them or not. Hopefully people will learn when they are in your squad to watch what they say around you.

  • Registered Users Posts: 229 ✭✭Boneyard2002

I done the course, and I do feel like it helped me. Though if I did know of someone that had applied for the job; I would tell them not to do the course and I’d just save them money and give them the material that I was given? After all it’s a tick box exercise. I do believe that if they had just sent the material everyone would’ve been better off and felt more secure because after all we don’t know what kind of person really went to that course to snoop

  • Registered Users Posts: 245 ✭✭Anonymous4321

No one is being a snowflake. You are just being passive aggressive and arrogant.

Just because you didn’t need to go on a course doesn’t mean you should deter other people from going on one and start slandering them as some invaluable money making scheme.

Yes, people applying should naturally have the attributes of the CVF but courses also serve as a mock for the real thing as well as calm people’s nerves as some mightn’t have been in an interview situation before.

Also, what holiday is someone getting for 250 quid because I need their travel agents number.

  • Registered Users Posts: 229 ✭✭Boneyard2002

He stated that he had paid for the course, but didn’t go and was sent the material? I read his post as saving money for other people? Just like my response to yourself. If I knew that you applied and I had done the course; I would just give you the material and tell you to read it and you would’ve saved yourself £250.

Ryanair are doing deals atm for £14.99 some good destinations.
