It was p1ss poor management of the club that led to this. They had €5 million+ sitting in their bank account around 2017 which should have led to improved facilities and a few years later they have nothing to show for it and are being ran by a lad who says he's a millionaire but doesn't have the cash to run the club. They look destined to be a mid-table First Division outfit.

The FAI had stroked a lot of the money they had around that time and it ended up with solicitors, UEFA prize money is paid via the FAI and they in turn are supposed to pass it on. They did get it in the end but that messing puts a strain on things.

AFAIK Dundalk asked the FAI to hold on to it.

On reflection that's like asking McDonalds to look after your cow.

I was under the impression UEFA distribute via governing bodies, I do know that Dundalk ended up having to fight to get it.

That is the case, my reading of the article below, and from what I heard at the time, is that Dundalk asked the FAI to keep some of the money to be paid in installments (probably a defacto loan to the FAI), but then had to draw down on it "early" so the books were balance for saviours of Irish Football Peak6 took over, which was then the "difficulty" occurred, probably because the FAI simply didn't have that amount of cash in their accounts. I don't think there was any major wrangle though.

As to where the money went, I suppose you'd have to ask Peak6.

Interesting, if both parties are in discussions Bohs must be prepared to offer Kenny an eye-watering salary by LOI standards along with a budget and at least very minimal answering to DOF Pat Fenlon

That brings back the question why didn't Bohs just go ahead and go all-in to try to hire Kenny in November and dump Devine who they clearly did not have confidence in anyway instead of wasting 4 months with a botched winter transfer window

€80-100k would probably be tempting to Kenny. He will never get the money he was on with Ireland again. Bradley and Higgins must be on around €75k so Kenny would probably want to be the best paid manager in the league. Bohs are brimmed full of money from novelty shirt sales so he could be within reach.

I don't understand the issue with a DOF. The days of an Alex Ferguson type character running the entire footballing side of things are long gone. Even at clubs without a DOF people do realise there are committees, essentially volunteer fans, who can turn down a managers request to sign a player.

I still don't completely see it happening. If only just because his reputation is very much on the line in this country, with beating him down having been very popular throughout his reign (by the end of it not many could defend him really), and if he has ambitions of ever being anything other than a LOI manager again, he can't really fail in his next job.

Bohs would have been a much better sell to him in November when he could have been given a budget and some input into building the squad together. Instead, its a squad with alot of unknowns in it, and whether Kenny takes it on now will surely depend on whether he assesses it and decides that it can do alot better than Devine was doing with it. Maybe the Polish, Estonian and loan lads actually are the future, but if not, he would almost be signing up now with an aim towards doing his real business in 2025.

I'd almost say that if Kenny does take that job on, it will be an indicator that they're not going to be nearly as bad as they were under Devine.

I genuinely believe they will, see no reason why they can't

Take care of the results and the more expansive football will come, players like Burt still adjusting. If we're doing enough playing bad, it would suggest there's a few more gears when we start to gel up front.

And there's great individual talent like Jarvis and Boyd. Burt and O'Sullivan will be rejuvenated players under the right manager who gets the best out of them.

Championship winning teams are generally built on a solid foundation and defence, we're the best in the league in that regard. On top of that the hunger and motivation, everyone on the same page and pulling together.

And now squad dept and genuine individual talent up front which will only get better. The whole package is there, no other team has that.

If we lose the league and key games, it will be from the sidelines. At times sitting back for a half and drawing teams on instead of going for it and killing it off, happened several times with Rovers, nearly happened again this year.

But we have the beating of everyone I think

Bohs problems are a result of letting all their young talented players go in quick succession for years. It seemed like Long was having to rebuild every 6 months.

Then in the last year or two, panic buy duds right before the season kicks off to bulk up the team. Could only ever end in disaster

Looks like Kenny is Bohs bound. That’s about as good a hire as they could have hoped for.

At the training ground today if rumours are to be believed.

Above enthusiasm aside, us being bookie favourites out in Inchicore tonight is beyond insane.

Are bookies overestimating us based on results so far or is there an injury crisis at Pats that I’m not aware of?

Bookies haven't a notion about LOI.

I know Waterford were muck in Derry but 9/4 seems generous away to Dundalk tonight with the pace they have in that attack going up against O'Donnell's high line. 7/5 draw no bet is decent value as well.

Good to see Talbot back in the squad for Bohs.

First one was a tidy finish. Hard to tell from the camera angle if the keeper should have done better though.

Pats have started very poorly this season.

Good win for harps. Awful first half, should have been 3 down. Better second half and scraped a win. Need to play better though. Last season we would have been hammered tonight

His goals were well taken albeit the defending particularly for the 2nd goal was poor. We'd been given enough warning in the 1st half about his danger.

Poor result yet again and we're struggling to create enough chances. Mulraney made a difference when he came on but too many of the starters particularly Forrester underperformed.

Galway v Rovers. Absolute muck. Really bad standard of football. Shocking.

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Sports Moderators, Paid Member Posts: 12,409 Mod ✭✭✭✭artanevilla

He was back training a week before Devine left, Devine was very supportive of him so timing coincidental.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,157 ✭✭✭✭CSF

He was probably better in the first half, before hed actually scored. Lad is far too good to be playing LOI.

Rovers were incredibly in possession second half, we almost made them pay with a very close back post header but that extra quality told in the end. We defended very well throughout and I'm not unhappy after that loss.
