Going south in the summer would be an ideal time to rest a few lads. I see no real point to continuing with Murray. Rest Furlong and VDF.

Bring in Prendergast and Hodnett or McAnn. I'd like to see Casey get both started along with Crowley.

Neither were left out of a championship decider..

Farrell has backed himself into a corner with this captain decision and he will probably stick with him again. And whip him off after 50 minutes again.

It's interesting to note that Conan has actually been brought on ahead of Baird in the last 2 games so might not have beem a straight swap baird for pom anyway.

Whats interesting about next week is that with both frawley and Nash failing HIA's, that most likely means both are out with a 7 day turnaround. With that situation, the 6/2 split might be gone, and we are back to a 5/3. In which case Larmour is most likely to start on the right wing with Harry byrne and ringrose on the bench.

Next year if Doak playes more 10 for Ulster he might be an option for a 6/2 split covering 9 and 10 ?

Sorry I ment in big championship games, not Inc Italy or summer tours

We're still going to beat Scotland and win the championship.

I echo others about watching Ireland in the mid 90's and getting thrashed all the time. Been enjoying watching Ireland a lot over the last while with all the wins and success.

We've got some amazing young talent that will be integrated over the next few years. Reckon we'll win a couple of more championships before the next WC and and finally get past the QF in it.

Looking forward to seeing what the constant moaners have to complain about when Ireland beat SA on the tour later this year.

Big fan of Baloucoune. In Farrells defence he has been playing poorly this year. Having said that Stockdale is in the squad!

Yep Hansen was a big miss today. Might be a stretch to say this but.. if Ringrose and Hansen played the full match I would think Ireland would be better in attack and defence.

Attack at times looked like it was - give it to Aki. Very little deception.

Agreed. It should be the end of 6-2 if we have Ringrose and two other centres available.

Any of the games that might be seen as championship deciders was the captain not performing?

Sexton was always one of the top performing players in the team. So it's hard to say when a captain was dropped for not playng well, I certainly can't remember

Frawley and Nash will depend on the number of HIAs they fail isnt it? they can fail the one in stadium but if they pass the next one they are available?

If they are out the 6-2 bench is probably the best option for Scotland, we have a better pack. Larmour can play 15/13/14/11 so give many options

Doak we should be looking at to play 9, the move to 10 is not great for Ireland IMO

I'd like to ahern and balacoune involved as well. Lineout and athleticism in back three were real problems today.

Almost half the posts in every thread I read on the rugby forum are from accounts I've ignored. Skip over anyone commenting in reply to them. Place is far, far worse for the shite that's allowed these days. This makes it usable.

Poor display from Ireland overall. England deserved to win, which is hard to stomach.

I thought Keenan was poor. But POM and Murray were very poor. Insane to kick the ball with 80 seconds to go and not trust the forwards for such a short window. Murray cost us an undeserved victory.

People who think that a coach would be upset that the ball was kicked in that situation have a flawed understanding of modern rugby.

I honestly think murray has been past it for a while but i would be extremely surprised if farrell is focusing on that in review.

We definitely could have held onto that ball for another minute or so with the fresh forwards we had on the pitch. 100% the wrong decision to kick it

Time is contagious, everybody's getting old.

We could also have given away a penalty.

If you kick it away, all you have to do is make tackles.

It wasnt wrong at all. A ref will be all out watching the team leqding trying to close out a game and watching for them to seal off etc at the breakdown. The most important thing to do was keep england as far away from our line as possible. Not keep the ball. Kick leather off ball and trust in your defensive structures.

The kick execution was terrible, Murray was messing up his kicks repeatedly, not getting sufficient distance on his box kicks. They should ran a few more phases then had Lowe welly the ball deep, to set the defensive line inside the English half and out of range for a penalty kick.

He should be focusing on it massively if he is serious in taking Ireland to the next level.

Was Lowe near them to kick it. If he wasn't you'd need to go through phases waiting for him which would defeat the purpose.

I would say he will be focusing on how england gained so much ground down the right channel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,895 ✭✭✭Downlinz

They weren't that far from the English half to be fair, at some point you have to just acknowledge that the defence from the English lineout a fair distance out was abysmal.

A few extra metres wouldn't have made much a difference because Kelleher and especially Lowe royally fucked up their defensive reads on the return.

I think we saw yesterday why the IRFU weren't offering POM a CC. In games like that he goes missing. Happens too many times.

At some stage Farrell is going to have to build for 2027 , the longer he puts that off the worse for Ireland

i know many won’t agree with me but our age profile is not great. lowe aki and Gibson park will 35 in 2027, that’s 3 of our best players.

They are only the 3 best players to those living in Kiwi land 😂

I don't have any issue with Murray's last kick to touch, he should get a roasting for the two extremely poor execution box kicks prior to that which we were very lucky to recover possession from, and absolutely were the wrong percentage play though. We were just extremely lucky that we somehow got back into an OK position, had an OK touch finder, but then we just bled field position in 90 seconds.

    Aki will be 37

    Murray and O’Mahony 38 and Healy 40.

After Scotland I think we need to move these fellas along. Perhaps Aki one more year but need to blood younger options in proper tests.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,122 ✭✭✭Shehal

They'll gradually be moved on this season, Ireland are in such a rude position that they didn't need to chuck all these guys out and start again, unlike someone like Wales, they can afford to keep the older guys and then gradually bring through the next crop. Baird will likely come in for POM, Casey will likely come in for Murray, Osborne will likely come in for Aki and any number of young LH's will come in for Healy (I'm thinking Milne once he gets a run of games).

    My takes

    1. That was way worse a performance than v New Zealand. Although we didn't have much possession, when we did, we kicked it away. Most egregious was just outside their 22, we kicked a high ball. We never backed ourselves to hold on and exert pressure.

    2. We don't have many natural leaders in the team. That showed yesterday.

    3. We're so reliant on Keenan at 15 that we should think hard about a 6-2 split ever again.
