I’d say between the poor wording, poor scheduling and level of distain for this government because of housing etc they were always up against it with this referendum. Solve one or 2 of the big issues or at least be seen to be trying to solve them and it would have probably sailed through. General election is going to be intriguing. Sinn Fein doing themselves no favours at all aligning themselves with government on some big issues.

I think because of the swing vote, they are going to put swingers into the constitution instead of durable relationships. 😁😁😁

I think they'll regret running these on International Women's Day now or will they just say we need International Women's Day because Ireland hates women.

I agree. In big EU constituencies the candidates will be returned based on party policy and it's hard to see many mainstream candidates getting back. Looks like we will be sending more independents.

Locals they might fare a little better as the candidates will be known personally to a lot of voters. A few from the parties on the right fringe can expect some success.

I personally think it was the AS centre issue that was the straw that broke the camels back.

No amount of effort could have convinced the people to vote to put ambiguous words and phrases into the constitution that even the government's own atourney general advised against.

No confusion my end! Was 100% opposed due to the content. I’d imagine same as per vast majority of people too

Well it appears that boards is a fair reflection of the general population and that we are not all "pale, male and stale"....or "angry middle aged men"....

Boards was the best poll and gauge of public opinion.......

Congrats to all No voters.....we wont be up in Dublin Castle with our flags and all that carry on.......but we certainly have dealt a bloody nose to this government.......a clear message has been sent to any future government....they will think twice about wasting our time on such nonsense again.......

This is a major wake up call.

There is a huge gulf between people and politicians. Peoples tolerance for being told what to think and do us breached, we are tired of being told what's best for us.

Political parties need to listen and reflect what people think and want, it's that simple.

The government did not need to run this, they then ran it badly, and assumed their lead would be followed. They got it badly wrong, but the opposition are clearly just as out of touch, rowing in behind the government.

It's a very interesting time for politics in Ireland, that's for sure.

Awful awful people. So anytime in a democracy when a vote goes against what the government and parties proposes it needs to be explained/rejected based off people getting it wrong. It really is galling. Do these people have an iota of what democracy is?!

Well if all the people coming out of the polling stations say they voted no because the new wording wasn't good enough then the democratic thing to do is to run with better wording.

Very few people straight up saying they like the constitution as it is.
