I think they'll regret running these on International Women's Day now or will they just say we need International Women's Day because Ireland hates women.

So give us your examples of posters here who were 'confused' in your words.

Granted there will be many differing views as to why they had reservations and chose to err on the side of caution.

But just because you think their views were fallacious means nothing more than they didn't agree with you. No confusion at all on the whole.

I agree. In big EU constituencies the candidates will be returned based on party policy and it's hard to see many mainstream candidates getting back. Looks like we will be sending more independents.

Locals they might fare a little better as the candidates will be known personally to a lot of voters. A few from the parties on the right fringe can expect some success.

I personally think it was the AS centre issue that was the straw that broke the camels back.

They have been beating the "confustion" drum all morning. How come "confusion" only works one way?

No amount of effort could have convinced the people to vote to put ambiguous words and phrases into the constitution that even the government's own atourney general advised against.

No confusion my end! Was 100% opposed due to the content. I’d imagine same as per vast majority of people too

The idea that no voters were "confused" is taking hold everywhere today.

Well it appears that boards is a fair reflection of the general population and that we are not all "pale, male and stale"....or "angry middle aged men"....

Boards was the best poll and gauge of public opinion.......

Congrats to all No voters.....we wont be up in Dublin Castle with our flags and all that carry on.......but we certainly have dealt a bloody nose to this government.......a clear message has been sent to any future government....they will think twice about wasting our time on such nonsense again.......

This “what went wrong” and people (god love them) were “confused” is an absolute crock a Sh1t being pedalled by arrogance.

For the "Care" part I voted No. Having been a carer and having worked with the excellent people who are profession carers : for the state to in any way imagine it had any credibility on the subject having starved the sector of funds for decades was beyond belief.

Humble pie? Bacik has already been on saying that when people resoundingly said 'No' to one of the referenda, they "clearly" wanted to say yes but just didn't like the wording.

    The arrogance!

"they will think twice about wasting our time on such nonsense again"- I don't know about that, I've seen several politicians already suggest a re-run. The arrogance of these people is simply mind-boggling. Why are these nonsense word-salad referendums so important to them?

I’m no fan of Michael mcdowell, but every time he was interviewed about the referendum he exposed the Govt and yes campaign for the straw man it was. Totally unnecessary referendum and monumental waste of money, not to mention cack handed and unintelligible wording…it would appear that the people have spoken….

This is a major wake up call.

There is a huge gulf between people and politicians. Peoples tolerance for being told what to think and do us breached, we are tired of being told what's best for us.

Political parties need to listen and reflect what people think and want, it's that simple.

The government did not need to run this, they then ran it badly, and assumed their lead would be followed. They got it badly wrong, but the opposition are clearly just as out of touch, rowing in behind the government.

It's a very interesting time for politics in Ireland, that's for sure.

    lol lol lol

we bow to your superior intellect 🤣🤣🤣

I can understand to an extent people voting yes in first ballot paper, but to vote yes to conceding the state owes you no care is dumbfũck to say the least. I presume your cohort have a live-up of adoring relatives waiting to wash your backside when you can no longer do it yourself.

Awful awful people. So anytime in a democracy when a vote goes against what the government and parties proposes it needs to be explained/rejected based off people getting it wrong. It really is galling. Do these people have an iota of what democracy is?!

Looks like it's the no side that went out to vote yesterday while the yes crowd stayed at home and took it for granted the referendum would pass.

Well if all the people coming out of the polling stations say they voted no because the new wording wasn't good enough then the democratic thing to do is to run with better wording.

Very few people straight up saying they like the constitution as it is.

The Boards.ie “pale make stake” cohort are essentially misogynistic at heart, though probably not consciously so, as they completely misinterpret that a lot of posters appear to be make by virtue of their username, phraseology and opinions. Very presumptive of what women are at heart. Completely backward men themselves. One reason I have my own picture on profile, I’m proud to assert myself as a feminine appearing female poster often with what are considered male traits. I don’t fit stereotypes.

The talk of confusion is laughable when many Yes voters were clearly confused about the Care referendum in particular.

They kept banging on about it being great to get rid of the "sexist language" about mothers, but totally ignored or didn't understand the wide ranging implications of the new wording placing the responsibility for care firmly on the family and letting the state off the hook.

Sinn Fein should really stfu right now, they backed this to the hilt...

Sinn Fein TD Maurice Quinlivan has called for Minister Roderic O'Gorman to resign over his handling of the Government's referendum campaign.

Speaking in Limerick, Mr Quinlivan said: "This has been a catastrophic failure by Government who, in their arrogance, listened to nobody."

Not a fan at all but when I heard him speak he was calm, measured, logical and wasn't coming across as biased in any way. His concerns were very reasonable.
