Sounds like a plan. I am on the energia smart drive plan which is .075c per kWh but it is a four hour window so I can charge my car (77kwh battery) over two nights. Remember you are probably going to be charging your car when it hits 20% so you will rarely be topping up from 0-100%. So if your mileage is reasonable then charging over a couple of nights will work out fine. Best of luck with the EV. You won't look back!

Ran my HDF file with those figures

AT current usage with no EV - Flogas came in 250 eur cheaper. (based off 9800 Kwh used in 12 months - yes high usage in big house!!)When i threw on 2600 kwh (complete guess) for EV it changed to BG being cheaper by 175 (assuming all charging is done at 2 to 5am rate)

I then tried 2600 EV usage in at 1800kwh at 2am to 5am rate and 800kwh at 11pm to 8 am rate and there is just 65 eur difference.

So i think it come down to EV usage and can you do all charging at 2am to 5 am rate. Think I am leaning towards BG and change our habits to out washing on at night.

What's the other way around? When I click the link if I go to the smart electricity rate it says to call. All the others you can sign up online.

Edit. I see they weren't talking about the smart electricity plan but just regular.

Hey @CoBo55 we must have been on this thread the same time last year. My renewal is the same data as yours. Do you mind if I ask you a few quick things?

    1. Did you get a 'Your Contract is ending soon' letter (in the post) from Flogas? I got one around a week ago, it said I would be going to standard rates after 19th April. I assume you got the same / this is standard issue?
    2. Did you see the renewal button only from Boards? I didn't see it anywhere else, i.e. they did not email me or anything, it was not offered in the letter, I only know of it because it was posted here.
    3. When you clicked renew, was it straightforward then?
    4. Are you effectively starting a 12 month contract from say 6 March, or does it start on 19 April, etc.

    Yes I got the letter.

    Only saw the renewal here.

Renewal was very straightforward I just needed my mprn and meter reading, it tells you that before you start.

I got an email thanking me for entering my new contract so I'm assuming I'm on the new rate since the meter reading I submitted along with a new contract.

I'm on the D/N Community Plan which expires early August. It's the 33c/14.75c plan. I use over 96% night electricity due to solar/battery so won't benefit much switching to the new BWG plan. I have an RN108 smart meter.

Anyway, I wen through the switching online and received the following email. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if they switch me to the new plan.

"Thank you for your application to renew your contract with Flogas.

Your welcome letter with your account details will be issued via email in the next 14 days. There is no need to contact us during this time, we will be in touch should we require any additional information.

Residential Terms & Conditions of your contract, along with our Codes of Practice and other useful documents can be found here.

Should you change your mind, you can cancel the renewal within 14 days of agreeing to the contract, by contacting cancellations@flogas.ie or by completing and returning the cancellation form.

If you have any queries on your application, please feel free to contact us at customersupport@flogas.ie or our Customer Care Team on 041 9874874

    Kind regards,

    Flogas Customer Care Team"

So it won't benefit you switching but you switched anyway 🤔🤔

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,173 ✭✭✭Comer1

LOL! I said, it won't benefit me much, a couple of hundred euro. But more importantly, it extends my contract with the best plan out there for me at the moment. We just bought a second EV which means the smart EV plans with three or four hours cheap rate wouldn't be enough for us. It also means I can start being a bit less obsessed with trying to avoid day rate electricity😎

I signed up to it online yesterday evening. Maybe they have changed the page but worked for me.

Edit. I think you weren't talking about the same D/N plan as me.

I’m on bwg fixed aswell. Day night meter. Contract is not up until end of June.

can I sign up to the new Flogas BWG offer?

if so, do I have to pay 50 Euro fee?

if so, am I in contract with flogas until March 2025?

Beam me up Scottie but can people not actually scroll back a few posts, not pages now, just a few posts to get answers to the most repeated questions 😕

ID4 drivers - wouldn't be the smartest meters on the grid 👍️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,173 ✭✭✭Comer1

You shouldn't be able to, but you can do what a few here have done and sign up online and see what happens

    No to the exit fee

Yes to new 12 month contract

I signed up in September, but if you don't ask you don't get!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,344 ✭✭✭obi604

compared to others, is this the best out there for a day/night meter?

wonder with reductions etc will other companies hit below 10 cent at night for a day night meter setup in the coming weeks?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,634 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

First half 2024 reductions have already been announced and implemented now?

Possible reductions coming before the onset of winter but that's about it.

No 50 euro breakage fee? I would have expected one, even if you're staying within flogas. Ours expires in May, but that rate looks enticing.

    Nevermind... I've learned to read

And scroll 😊😊 hopefully I'll get my welcome pack soon.

  • Moderators Posts: 12,425 ✭✭✭✭Black_Knight

Just applied now. Dual fuel. Only slight confusion was them asking for our electricity reading, and our night rate. I gave our Day usage and Night usage. Not the total and night. Surprised to see (only have the new meter in a few months) that our usage is 90% night (battery + solar).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,173 ✭✭✭Comer1

Flogas site asks for electricity reading and night reading, they mean day and night reading not the total of both fir the first one, so you've entered them correctly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,115 ✭✭✭✭CoBo55

I just put in the total as I'm on the 24hr plan, I left night blank. 90% night is brilliant, easily makes up for the higher standing charge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,344 ✭✭✭obi604

am I wrong here in saying one does not need to wait? as if its lower you will still be staying with flogas anyway, so does not matter. (in regard to the new 25/12 new BWG rates)

  • Moderators Posts: 12,425 ✭✭✭✭Black_Knight

Mother in law (currently on 24 hr BWG rate from last year) rang them up to try get the smart meter rate (she has an EV and solar, so that's kinda her best option) and they told her she needed a link. The link to the affinity deal says to call them... anyone know if the smart rate deal can be got or is that explicitly just for BWG employees?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,708 ✭✭✭yllw.ldbttr

It's not legal for Flogas or any other utility provider to restrict an affinity deal to one group of customers.

Much like private health insurance this is a regulated market and you can call them and insist on contracting to a particular tariff whether you are a BWG group employee or not.

Are you sure it falls into the same category as health insurance? Would love to see it in black in white somewhere.

I know IFA have a deal with bord gais, but you cannot sign up to it through bord gais.

You have to ring up the IFA phone number and they set you up on it.

Sorry I haven't been following this thread too closely the last week or so. Did I see someone mentioning a new Energia day/night deal? Can't remember off the top of my head, my plan is something like 34c/19.5c before the March price drop, obviously can't see the plan now that you need a meter number as they know I'm a customer...

Can this be signed up for online as a new customer switching over? Currently with energia but this would represent a good saving. Even paying €100 to break our contract, we'd make it back in the first billing period.
