I thought two, though could be wrong, Sepp made birdie in the rain anyway, but just felt like Shane's tournament to lose before the rain came

Good first round anyway today, big week for Shane, win this and he can relax a bit before the Master's.

That's right, he got rain and his ball stuck when it landed on the green on 18. I knew there was something lucky about it. For some reason I thought it was an eagle.

The rain def skanked him badly but didn't cause an outright loss. He would still have had to win a playoff. Straka finished really well and it's hard to discredit his win.

    Because the rain skanked him....

The best he would have got was a playoff without rain.

Great round, really looking forward to tomorrow evening. Great to see Shane up there, a win here could be a great boost before the Masters

He's owed it after what happened two years ago. If he can use that tomorrow it'll help him a lot I think.

I really hope he does it.

    His tournament to lose.

Hardly. For that he'd need to be 4/5 shots ahead. He could play well tonight and do nothing wrong but any player around him could have the round of their life and take the win.

3 of them 3 shots clear. He should beat them. Who’s favourite then if not Shane

Pretty big difference between “his to lose” and “he’s favourite”.

great to see a bit of form from him,in his interview he said hes only played about 5 times since the Ryder cup.He needs to downgrade the Ryder cup now in his thinking and get it in context ,he wont have anymore Ryder cups if he doesnt focus on his ranking better than the last 6 months.

Indeed. The odds shown are Lowry 9/5, Eckroat 15/4, Skinns 7/1, Lee 11/1 and everyone else 25/1 or higher. I’d say that’s a reasonably fair reflection of the chances of each of them winning.

Really hope he wins it and gets his ranking back up, but there's always that nagging doubt about his putting, isn't there. Does -16 get it done ? If he can get it to there it puts a lot of people out of reach I think.

he did miss a tiddler yesterday but saw some of his lag putts and they were pretty good.He also holed some decent ones. His driving looked good as well.

Heres hoping he can get it done, get him back up there where his talent belongs.

The big surprise in this tournament is David Skinns, he's done nothing but regularly miss cuts. He has a few wins over the year on the Korn Ferry but never been much of a factor there on a consistent level.

Eckroat had a couple of decent performances last year but he's been out of form as of late too.

I suppose you could say Shane hasn't been in great form either but he's played very little. The course suits him, I'm sure he's played it a lot as it appears he lives only 20 minutes from it.

I think the odds given above are a fair reflection of how things should play out given each players history and recent results. Mon Woo Lee would be the guy I'd fear the most as he can and has went low in final rounds a couple of times.

There is no certainties in golf though. One bad shot can lead to a double bogey or worse and cost you the tournament. Lets hope Shane can keep it on or nesr the fairways and greens and he should have a great chance.

all we can ask is he is in the mix on the back nine, steady start please,

Hoping he gets off to a good start. I'm off work tomorrow so looking forward to a relaxing night of sitting down watching this, makes it all the better with an Irish player up there, without having Irish in contention ive found myself less interested in watching tournaments recently

Some serious early scoring out there so looks like course is at it easiest all week. Shane will need to be 4/5 under to be in mix

Van Rooyen trying to upset the apple cart. -5 through 5. Up to -11.

I'm not one to relate Shane's weight to his golf performances but I did think this week that he looks to have lost a lot, looking very trim

They just showed what happened in 2022. I'd forgotten it, the rain came down and soaked the place after Straka's tee shot. Shane then hit after the rain and got no run. He couldn't go for the green in two and it cost him his chance of a birdie. Totally robbed by the weather.

I noticed that too, but I avoided commenting on it in case it might get me into trouble!

I wonder how tonight’s suspension of play will work out for him. Hopefully, it won’t derail his chances of winning. 🤞
