Game in Sligo is going ahead for any Shels fans wondering. Are many coming down? I've no idea what to expect attendance-wise since it's a Friday. I know two people who can't go just because of that reason.

    Rovers statement about flares.

    "Club Statement l Pyrotechnics

As all supporters will be aware from stadium regulations and previous club announcements, the use of pyrotechnics (flares, fireworks, smoke bombs) is prohibited at Tallaght Stadium.

The club is adopting a zero tolerance approach with anyone found with, or using, pyro receiving indefinite bans from Tallaght Stadium and barred from accessing away match tickets.

The club was contacted after the recent Dundalk game, where a young male supporter in the South Stand had to move quickly to avoid injury after flares were lit by surrounding fans. He had to leave the area and had his Rovers top destroyed by sparks that burned right through. It is sheer luck that the boy didn't require medical treatment if the sparks had penetrated through to his skin.

The club also had reports of two burn injuries from flares at the President's Cup game. It is only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt.

From this weekend's Drogheda game onwards, our security team will be actively seeking to identify any fans using pyro. If, and when, identified, they will be ejected on the night, and/or identified afterwards using CCTV, and issued an immediate indefinite ban from all SRFC home and away games.

As well as being dangerous, the club is at risk of significant monetary fines, away allocation reductions and possible stand closures.

This is the final warning on this issue before the club acts. We seek the support of all fan groups in making Tallaght Stadium a safe space for all spectators to enjoy football."

Regarding pyrotechnics security staff at Tallaght told me on two different occasions that they can't search children entering the stadium. If this is true and presumably children includes anyone under 18 I really don't see how any club can definitively deal with the issue of flares in the grounds.

Was 300+ away tickets sold as of Thursday afternoon - two of our supporters coaches have been cancelled in the last 90 mins so there's 80+ gone from that 300+ at least. One coach still going and assume some will still drive but conditions in Dublin have been brutal all morning.

The bloody snow had to arrive today of all days.. We'll have to face a rested Dundalk side at Oriel on Monday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,159 ✭✭✭✭CSF

This is probably the time of the season it matters least with no real miles on the clock.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,819 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

10 days rest vs 3 days would still matter quite a bit though. We'll likely have to rotate on Monday but they won't.

Not a drop of snow up here in Derry, so never worry Pats fans.

It's dry too, but BITTERLY cold so wrap up well!

How many Pats fans will actually travel given the roads conditions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,079 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Tuned in to Last Word sport at 6 to hear about games being off.

    F1 and Christian Horner

    Irish cricket v Afghanistan

    Liverpool fc/Klopp

    Camogie

Not a mention of our local football tonight.

Game On on 2FM might have been a better shout.

Would argue that 10 days without a game could be worse at this start of the season, but let’s see how it goes etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,819 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

It appears Russell has decided to rotate tonight instead with a 6 pointer to come on Monday

Good start by Pats, but ugh, that pitch. I think I can honestly say I’ve never seen a good game on it.

Offside given against Matty Smith directly from a goal kick in sligo, if the officials can't even get that right what's the point?

You're lucky you don't have to watch 19 games every season on it.

    Awful game. We are terrible.

Terrible game in the Brandywell. We started ok but went too defensive very quickly. Good to see someone reacting to Maher and his conviently timed injuries. Him and Nicky Quaid in hurling are taking the pass with it.

I thought it was to go back to grass this year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭trashcan

    No! I’m not having that.

Have you never heard Trevor Welch ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭trashcan

That was funny with Forrestor acting the maggot ( but breaking no rules) and getting Hoban booked into the bargain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,487 ✭✭✭trashcan

Great win for you to turn it around in fairness. Thought we deserved a point though. Second week in a row we’ve lost a late goal to lose the game.

It's hard not to overreact after 3 games when we are witnessing the exact same nonsense under Russell we saw most of last season. That's 180 minutes at home without causing the keeper a problem. Completely toothless once we get near the opposition goal.

Welch gets a pass because he hosted Eircom League Weekly and that was class.
